@jyork85 sure that tgv has clocked the speediest but the conventional tgv still runs slower than japanese ones. i'm not undermining the french tech. it's absolutely amazing using conventionally designed locos. the japanese use aerodynamic design that's all. the innards remain the same.

the mere fact of employing reduced drag design increases the locomotion pull factor by over 2%. that's enough to go over 300kph. on specially designed tracks of course.

@zambi007i From what I understand, the Shinkansen currently has a top speed of 240-300km/h depending on the line. There is a line under construction for 320km/h. All French main lines are at least 300km/h with LGV Est under construction for 320km/h.

Surprisingly the one that takes the gold for fastest line is the Chinese Wuhan-Guangzhou Line at 350km/h, averaging 319km/h.
