We used to have one of these. I think it was the limited edition 2000 or 2001 Exursion. It was a Ford so it didn't drive that well, and it was very unsafe, but as a passenger, well, it's SO NICE.

i drive a 2011 stang' and the excursion to this day is my favorite SUV of all time and had my brother had a excursion at his dealership i would of bought it instead of my mustang :)
omg.. 44 gallon fuel tank, thats almost 200 european liters =O i have 55 liters haha, which means if i hade this thing here in swe with our gas prices, about 440usd just to have full tank
One of my friends has this exact excursion modded up to 425 hp and around 800ft pounds of torque to the wheels. Its scary to sit in a 9000 pound vehicle that can go 0-60 in around 6 seconds.
Man this is a nice truck.. It's too bad they discontinued it - The Expedition EL just doesn't cut it. This is a truck. I like the '01 Limited with the 6.8L Gas. I'm not saying I don't like the sound of a Diesel..;) Too bad you don't have this truck in MN, especially without the rust on the under body. Salt is terrible on trucks up here..
@almaster666 he hasn't done test drives in over a year due to the fact that he mostly does knew vehicles now so u won't have to worry about that anymore.
For a second I thought the beepers were going to play the USA national anthem when he put the key in the ignition... Shame they can't sell these in the UK..
@riederernicholas95 well, I don't know about Killanator, but I live in Norway, and if you live in the suburbs or in the city, you would look redicolus driving one of these.. There are a lot of these older american SUVs in rular areas where they need cars like that, but if you live in suburban areas and need a 4x4, most people buy 4x4 station wagons (Volvo V70/XC70 Passat 4x4, Scoda Octavia/Scout etc) or crossover SUVs like Nissan Quasquai, Mitsubishi Outlander, peugeot 3008, honda crv, vw tiguan
i sooo want one of these or an f350 dualy king ranch but have heard HORROR stories on that 6.0 ltr powerstroke... and not knowing how to fix them and they look crammed in their lol.. i just kinda fear buying one... any ideas what to look out for? also why do the manual hubs always seize up?
@suncruiser00 the 6.0s are known for blowing head-gaskets because of excessive heat and badly designed head bolts (torque to yield). Under normal maintenance, they can go a long ways. Your best bet though, is to pull the cab off the chassis, and replace the head gaskets, HPOP, and use ARP head studs to complete the rebuild. If you do this, they will go even longer with no problems. run good fuel in them, and change your filters often! (continued to other reply)
@suncruiser00 and as for the hubs, they are automatic locking hubs (vacuum) with manual back-up. You don't have to manually lock your hubs on a Super Duty if you have electronic 4x4 (turn dial on the dash as apposed to manual lever on floor). They rarely fail or seize, but if they do, I recommend replacing with Warn Standard or Premium replacement manual lockers....good luck! :D
@macbrownman nope they stoped the 7.3 liter on 2003 and they brought in the 6.0 liter in 2004-2005 the last year of production for the ford excursion would be in 2005 U.S.- 2006 in mexico (check wikipedia, type in ford excursion and look in the gray box for specs)
i hope that Ford continues the Excursion soon. hopefully they're doing what Dodge did, discontinue a vehicle for a while then bring it back full blown ready to kick some ass.
@FilAm4494 they won't, the reason these will not be coming back is because most people belived they were impractical, because for some people they couldn't back them up worth a darn, they were not economical, so for those people who think saving the environment can only be done by buying a smaller car won'y buy them, they were expensive, they were 50 - 70 thousand dollars, so average joe would not buy one, and finally, they have introduced the expedition max! so sadly its not coming back :(
REMEMBER: before turn off the engine with turbocharger you have to wait more less 30-40 seconds (better more then less). Turbocharger must to slow down. If you turn off the engine with a turbocharger working on higher revs, turbocharger will end it's force faster then it should.
Europeans love Common Rail engines (modern diesels) in all types of cars and trucks!
keep this thing at about 2000 to 25000 rpms around 60-70 mph, you'll get 18.5 mpgs, so over 750 miles on one tank, thats my dads mileage on his 2005 ecursion limited
Fords are nice. My first & previous car was a 1995 Escort Wagon. My dad currently has a 2003 Explorer Sport Trac with 180k miles now & it's been very reliable, only had a few problems in the past 20k miles or so such as the alternator going out & such.
Hey, I get 15 towing a 5,000 pound trailer, so I get a avg of 600 miles to a tank with the 5,000 pound trailer, but I get 23 on the Highway with 7 people, and all of their camp equiptment. But Loaded! I mean come on, you don't have th buckets in the 2nd row, or in dash GPS, and does it even have a DVD player?
