Ella has such a beautiful voice. As a singer myself, I admire not just her talented voice, but most of the songs she's performed are just so beautiful and meaningful to me=) Wish I could meet her!

A lot of the Gershwin songbook songs are jumpy and clever and cute. This one is a slow bayonnet to the heart. It still gets me today like the first time I heard it, over 30 years ago.

When I discovered Ella in 1954 I thought "She's pretty good". But when she brought out "The Gershwin Song Book" it startled everyone for it's sheer quality,and it changed the way the top singers sang the "American" Songbook.. Of course the voice is great, but her control is incredible. Ella and Nat Cole were probably the best ballad singers ever. Why is she the best? Well after listening to this find "Don't be that way" from a Sinatra show where she swings effortlessly. It's on YouTube. .
