  • why u kill toby? :'(

  • @10thstudio I didn't kill him, I performed plastic surgery on him; it's all the rage out here in California :)

  • @TestValleyRailway hahaha i guess so

  • Somehow, it seems through the whole video it is facing backwards. I wonder why....

  • @Calebtrain The driver is facing the end that use to have the face on it. As I removed some of the height to get it to the correct scale all that remained from the face was two small holes, which were filled with modeling putty. Also, if you hadn't noticed several views are shown with both the driver at the front and back if you need a reference point.

  • @hartleymartin Suprizingly the chassis is a very good runner. I wouldn't recommend the hornby open cabbed pannier, I found the chassis on that ran terrible. But honestly if you want to foregoe all the interior detail and repaint this can be done in about an hour.

  • @username5515 Not too much, I think 25 pounds for all the supplies. It's the time that it took that was the problem. Took a good 36 hours but there was a lot of admiring involved. :)

  • For the amount of work required to modify this model, I would probably do a scratch-build instead, although I am lead to believe that hornby's mechanism for Toby is quite a good runner.

  • nicley done,

    how much did it cost?

  • how did you get the face off because i was thinking of getting the thomas range dunk and repaint it

  • @5029tom Hmm well for the Hornby Toby the face just clips in. I think it might actually be part of the mold for the steam engines within the range, but I'm not sure. I think the E2 face on Thomas is removable but then you need to find a suitable replacement to fill the space.

    Hope that helps.

  • @5029tom Don't bother repainting anything in the Hornby Thomas Range, that range is hugely over priced,Go for either an old Hornby Pannier tank off ebay (or the bachmann one, as they are far superior) or get one of the Hornby Open Cab panniers from the Railroad Range.

  • the next challege is to make one that has the connecting rods visable

  • This just seems to say "leokimvideo's mad bomber" all over.

  • I'm doing this for Owain in my model railway series.

  • @RedGemAlchemist UPDATE: As I haven't got a model railway at the moment, have several other things on the go and have accidentally obliterated the Toby I was using, don't expect any videos of "Owain" any time soon.

  • How long did it take you to do this because it looks great. :)

  • @ipodwindow Thanks. It took about 20 hours in total, excluding admiring time though :)

  • How much would you sell this for? I'd pay up to 60 pounds for it

  • @crazyracer12 Well I'm very doubtful I'd ever sell it, but based on the price of the Silver Fox J70 I'd say about 150+ as it's a very time consuming process to modify the body to that extent. And the chance for error with these modifications is very high. It would probably be cheaper for you to do it on your own or work from the Silver Fox RTR model/kit.

  • @TestValleyRailway okay, I need a model like this so I'll try and simply take toby's face off and cut a bit off his cab

  • Interesting, It appears to show that the Hornby toby model is a little bit too high for the actual prototype.

The same size issue I guess goes to bill and ben.

  • @toby070 It's hard to say really. The best way would to find a picture of the prototype locomotive where it has a reference point for you to compare to. I used the average size of a person for the conversion.

  • Nice convershion. Do you think it can be dun with the Bachmann Toby. It is slightly smaller than the Hornby?

The RTR Silver Fox model is about £75.

  • @tiddles4x4 It can, the issue with using a Bachmann Toby is that it has moving eyes. So I'd assume if you remove them you'll have eye holes in the body plus the face is part of the body. Not to mention the interior hardware relevant to the eye movement.

The Silver Fox model is okay, I think 75 is a lot for the level or detail and paint job. That's why I said I probably wouldn't sell mine, the process for drilling out the windows and entry ways was far too tedious.

  • Wicked job!

  • Aside from converting him into his real prototype :) Extra detail could even be added just for Toby himself :) Great work :D

  • @Damocles178 Oh yes, I'd definitely say the details could be added to improve the current Toby. If anything at least the roof details could be easily done.

  • mARVELLOUS!!! Someone who's done it! Nice work! A Shame the body can't be made shorter, as it is a bit too long I think....

  • Nice work!!

  • Very nice conversion, Looks great

  • Dramatic..

  • Wow thats great

    :)

  • brilliant adam!!

  • Job well done, niceley put to-gether on video

  • Thanks :). I was surprised to see comments lol, I only just finished writing the description.

  • O THAT is BRILLIANT

  • nice 5* looks good
