@realmike15 $400-500 are you feeling okay lol? you can build one for less then $200 get a Pentium 4 processor pc with atleast 2gb ram a decent graphics card then download k lite standard codec pack sorted.
The Popcorn Hour A-200 and C-200 are about to get a brand new Flash lite based jukebox menu system called NMJ, Networked Media Jukebox. If you want to see a demo of the beta versions of the NMJ user interface, search Youtube for NMJ C-200.
DONT buy a Popcorn Hour C200 Device. Its Slow; it crashs and the online support is nothing than a big joke.
this device is called networked media tank. the network is not even CLOSE to normal gigabit standard speed; if you install the nmt apps the whole system freezes. you want to download stuff via nzbget with your normal download speed ? forgett it. its capped to ridicilous 1000kb/s.

Agreed, if you stick to the basics and are willing to watch some youtube videos to learn some techie skills you shouldn't ever go over $400 (it also helps if you have a few computer parts kicking around as well). Just google 'cheap HTPC' to see how some people built theirs for between $200 to $300 bucks. Ohhhhhh, our friend Mr. Google. :-)
300$ WITHOUT internal storage!? Seriously? If it came with a 1TB Hard drive and an integrated BluRay Player (not that external drive garbage I saw) I might consider paying that much. I'm sure the price will go down after a year or so. We'll wait and see.
The DIR-655 he is using has problems with gagabit. Use a better cable. I had to try 3 cables to get gigabit from the DIR-655 to my professional D-link managed gigabit switch.
Hmm $300... not worth it. For $400 you could build a very nice 1080P capable PC that plays every format, every website; hulu etc, built in wifi, gaming capabilities... where is the incentive to buy this device? ~ I think it should be $99 and they get sponsors like hulu which in turn show more video this more advertisements shown.
@graphicism yes, but will your $400 PC run at 4watts? This matters to a lot of people & if it doesn't maybe it should.
My PS3 with PlayOn handles most everything including NetFlix, Hulu, and even Revision3, but keeping a 300+ wattage system turned on for hours everyday can really spike your energy bills. Basically buying a set top device (I actually prefer the WD HD Live ($100), the Popcorn Hour A-200 ($179) or even wait for the new PopBox ($129) which will also support NetFlix out of the box.
4 watts is pretty crazy, I am energy conscious but take into account the energy it takes to make metal, plastic and so on and prefer one box that can do it all; a PC does just that. I don't need an xbox or a PS3, blu-ray or a dvd player or any of these media devices...
Like, no it doesn't. The PS3 is pretty much X264, and encoding is usually involved. I'm sure there are other apps that have improved the experience, but the PCH is virtually plug and play.
pretty cool device. but it more inspired me to just hook my PC to my HDTV and get a wireless keyboard. i'm thinking if you use that much content, chances are you wont really have a need for this device in the long run because you already have simpler, more reliable, more efficient sources anyway
not a good review imo

@realmike15 pentium 4 can easily play full blu ray with k lite codec pack lol i've tried it on numerous full blurays with like 35mb bitrate.

@SuperPSTutorials Good luck with the configurations. There is a lot to be said for pre-configured media tanks.

The price tag is what's holding me back from buying one. For $300, it should have come with a hard drive and blue ray.

@videogameobsession Does the PS3 still stream from Hulu? I heard that they killed Hulu support a short while ago.
