I am a Christian (protestant) and my religion doesn't have a negative influence on my life at all.I go to church for FREE and no one is pressuring me to give money or to buy stuff, no one will treat you different if you don't give money. and there are millions of people that are in the same situation as me, SO PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE THAT THAT ALL RELIGIONS ARE SCAMS OUT THERE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY.
Your genocidal piece of shit sky king can supposedly do anything. So why does an all-powerful pace god need money, especially yours? If he does, why do you have to give it to some botoxed, bleached teeth blow-dried con artist? Make the genocidal douchebag support his own damned churches and shamans if they're so important to him. At least when you pay the mob protection money, you actually, you know, get some pretty impressive protection. Your emo zombie can't even manage that.
@Aquaria first of all, from your comment i can see that you really really hate all religions. But that's just because you have a HUGE preconceived notion about religious people. You think that every single religious person that believes and speaks about his believe is a very evil scam artist that only wants money and frankly that's just total nonsense man. Cant it aquire to you that there are people that actually believe.
@Aquaria and to answer your questions God doesn't need money, the church need money for maintenance, rent, etc.and and sometime churches raise money for charity as well. Not everything is given to one person so they can get rich and you don't have to give anything no one's forcing you,it just helps to pay the costs And the next bit you seriously have to clarify for me cause i have no idea what you are talking about,is it something about you wanting God to create money for the church or something...
@Aquaria .... and something about protection money.
P.S. the ''botoxed, bleached teeth blow-dried con artist'' is a public speaker and probably want to look presentable or maybe he just wants to look good like any other person.

This just shows us that derren brown is good at manipulating people, it doesn't prove that these religions are fake. Just because there are a lot of religion scams does not mean that there aren't people with these religions that truly have your best interest at heart and aren't scamming you for your money.
Even if he seeded/influenced her to draw those things, he could never guess the order in which she drew them ... He clearly said draw 1 is this, draw 2 is that ... So if no trick other than the power of suggestion was used as all of you say, i must say this is very impressive. And besides she drew much more than a boat so i don't know how would you explain the smily sun, the banana, the tree and he even guessed the religion aspect of the first drawing (star of david) ,,, very impressive
@tacv You did notice that he gave the suggestions in between each drawing, right? For instance he gave the "sail through your mind" comment before she drew picture 2, which was the boat.
I suppose there is any reason not to be skeptical that's it isn't staged, but subtle suggestions from authority can have noticeable effects.
It's important to remember that he is a master at subconscious suggestion, mass psychology, psychology of choisemaking, NLP and hypnosis and uses loads of time preparing these things, none of this is spontaneous.
i don't know but maybe before they started it maybe he suggested to her. i mean before they started to do the "magic" thing in part 1 when they had a regualar conversation... xP
It is pretty amazing how simple verbal cues can cause recall, suggestion, and manipulation. When you see Derren in action, or Bandler and NLP, you have to wonder what their bottom-up analysis of memetics can apply to traditional cognitive science... and what applications that could have, say, in A.I. and decision-support systems.
Outstanding, in the most traditional sense of the word.
Yeah i noticed the NLP with the boat, kind of a little too obvious, though surely the so called professionals would of been equally aware that NLP induces some of the same effects they claim are pshycic and of course noticed he was doing it?
I love how gullible all you people are believing he is doing it just through the power of suggestion. He is incredibly psychic and Im laughing at how he plays all of you.
The greatest irony is it's actually the audience who are being made fools of.
That's not how it works. You can't make a claim and tell people to prove it wrong. You claim to know something and it is impossible for you to truly do so without having seen proof. That's what a burden of proof is.
And considering psychic ability isn't an accepted scientific phenomenon, Derren doesn't claim to be psychic and provides real psychological reasons why his tricks work, your claim is all the more extraordinary.
So. Why do you claim that Derren is secretly a psychic?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You're the one making a claim. You're claiming that he is not psychic.
Psychic ability is an accepted metaphysical phenomenon. So if you want to disprove an existing theory where is your proof?
So what if he claims to not be psychic? You take him for his word and nothing more. Yet he nor you provide any evidence that support this theory. Funny how he doesn't reveal his 'tricks' as there are no tricks to reveal.
It's not at all funny, actually. Magicians and mentalists rarely reveal their tricks, as they generally turn out to be rather banal.
And no, I'm making no claim. I'm not interested in disproving or arguing anything. I'm intrigued by your idea that Derren is in fact a psychic and I have apparently been manipulated. Surely you have some legitimate reason for believing that?
*You're* gullible. I haven't watched anything but the pictures in other rooms so far but he uses a popular technique called NLP. He suggest to her what she should draw subliminally by what he says. Notice for example that before she draws the boat, what he says is "Let the image *sail* through your mind; don't go *overboard* on the details". It works, look it up. Even psychiatrists do it. Just because you cannot explain something doesn't mean that it cannot be proven scientifically. Idiot :P
I'm not sure how your last sentence connects to the rest of what you said... but... NLP has never been scientifically proven. Just... wanted to mention that, in case that's what you were implying...
I don't know how to answer that, simply because it *has* been scientifically proven. I use NLP for self-improvement all the time. I own several books on NLP. Maybe you're thinking of NLP in terms of influencing others with words only, but it's more than that. Just look into it a little and I'm sure you'll agree. I mean, I'm no psychology major but saying that NLP hasn't been proven is like questioning the point-line-plane postulate. NLP is a term we gave for a phenomenon that already exists.
@yousefamar Your last sentence seems to put into perspective the discrepancy between what we're saying. It sounds like we need an operational definition to define what we mean by NLP in order to know for sure that we're talking about the same thing. Regardless, I urge you to search for the recent review on NLP, called "NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING: CARGO CULT PSYCHOLOGY?" by Gareth Roderique-Davies.
@biglmac If that is what you define as NLP, fair enough; I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. To me NLP encompasses much more than that. Alone motivational speaking, the proper use of rhetoric to effectively persuade or argue or the use of positive suggestion to bring about certain behaviour in a person is already part of NLP. And to me it is self-evident.
The boat thing is correct but I still wonder how he suggested to the woman to draw the other pictures. There must be a down-to-earth explanation but I can't figure it out. Perhaps you can?
This segment is obviously edited, so my best guess is that either before/during each of the drawings or before the test began (see part 1 of 8) he gave similar 'instructions' to the drawer. When he feels like the symbol is 'religious' in the first picture, my guess is that he gave her a subliminal message to include a religious component and assumed she was Christian. Because she drew a Star of David instead, I'd be curious to see if she's Jewish.
Not always, sometimes they're delusional enough to believe in their own stories. In which case they're not technically "con-men", just a bunch of lunatics. The difference is that while the con-men should be thrown in prison, the lunatics should be given a place in a mental institution.
I don't think so. Ever heard someone say "he's told that lie so many times he's starting to believe it himself"? I think the vast majority belong to the "odd combination" category. I mean, you must be at least a little nuts to not be be able to con people like that.
He admits that it's a trick in the previous vid. His whole point - the reason he does this - is to demonstrate that people are too willing to believe claims like these.
A lot of Brown's stuff is this way. He says he's not psychic or supernatural but he never really lets you know exactly what he's doing or how the editing is done. There's obviously more than what is presented which leads some to thinks he really has "powers".
It's a good gig, but it's a bit dishonest in the same was as other "TV magicians". It's a medium that never can impress an honest skeptic, because there is too much we are unaware of. Not a controlled environment at all.
He was often wrong here and there im sure, but remember he said "just sail thru, dont go overboard" Sailboat... he puts thoughts into ones head. then guesses
i don't think there's anything wrong in choosing to believe in god- it's wrong to do harm on other people and impose your own beliefs on others. but atheists and those who believe in god can live together and simply agree on modes of ethics.
In America, God is on our currency. God is in our school pledge. There isn't a single public official who doesn't claim to believe in God. It is illegal in five states to hold public office without believing in God. In the other forty-five, it is impossible. Tax-payers fund the Boy Scouts, which does not allow children who do not believe in God.
People should be able to believe what they believe. But the very nature of religion is conformity and blind faith. This is the society that it breeds.
well, you just made me realize that you are probably from the USA- where scientology is recognized as a religion. in your country "religions" are registered.
i am talking about "religions" as "movements"- groups of people throughout history came together and formed the basis for the world religions as we know today-- in the traditions of the judeo-christian faiths, and islam faiths. some of them turned extreme and some had violent histories.
... i forgot the eastern movements, like budhaism (which was originally not religious at all), hinduism, and taoism-- these were probably less violent as asian spiritual movements were originally leaning towards mysticism and austerity.
Scientology. The Church of Ed Wood. Apatheism. Jedi Religion. Pastafarianism -- all are registered; all are ridiculed. The religions you mention are older, but just crack open a bible and see how different the Christianity of two-thousand years ago is from the Christianity today. It may as well be new, because I guess people don't feel like stoning their mothers to death for having premarital sex.
What I don't understand is why you seem to think that a bunch of loonies writing down crazy stories to make themselves feel more comfortable about a world of uncertainty in this day and age is any different from them doing it a couple thousand years ago. People do it now, it's a cult. People do it then, it's a "movement". "Movements" that were not peaceful, were not sane, and were not justified. Eastern movements were no different.
Just know that a few thousand years from now, people all over the world could be praying to Xenu for salvation. But then, you don't have to worry about that because people probably won't be around. Just like the billions before us who spent more time worrying about their immortal soul than their mortal one, we'll be rotting in the dirt -- blissfully unaware of the potential we had that was repeatedly crapped on and eventually obliterated altogether, simply because we couldn't grow up.
and belief in god is not limited to religion. there are people who are compelled to believe in something spiritual, which makes sense to them-- others do not require the notion of god to live their lives. the important thing in the end is realizing that it is important to have some form of self dignity and enough respect of other people. something like this will make civilization work regardless of believing or not believing in the existence of god.

I am a Christian (protestant) and my religion doesn't have a negative influence on my life at all.I go to church for FREE and no one is pressuring me to give money or to buy stuff, no one will treat you different if you don't give money. They will lovingly receive you wither your black, brown, white, etc and you can stay as long as you want the money that is given is just for maintenance costs and the rest of the money is given to charity. They will also show step by step were the money is going.

Aquaria 1 year ago
@Aquaria first of all, from your comment i can see that you really really hate all religions. But that's just because you have a HUGE preconceived notion about religious people. You think that every single religious person that believes and speaks about his believe is a very evil scam artist that only wants money and frankly that's just total nonsense man. Cant it aquire to you that there are people that actually believe.
sitecomable 1 year ago
@sitecomable No. Most of them are just stupid and of course they fall for those few scam artists!
samborlon 1 year ago
@Aquaria and to answer your questions God doesn't need money, the church need money for maintenance, rent, etc.and and sometime churches raise money for charity as well. Not everything is given to one person so they can get rich and you don't have to give anything no one's forcing you,it just helps to pay the costs And the next bit you seriously have to clarify for me cause i have no idea what you are talking about,is it something about you wanting God to create money for the church or something...
sitecomable 1 year ago
@Aquaria .... and something about protection money.
P.S. the ''botoxed, bleached teeth blow-dried con artist'' is a public speaker and probably want to look presentable or maybe he just wants to look good like any other person.

This just shows us that derren brown is good at manipulating people, it doesn't prove that these religions are fake. Even if he seeded/influenced her to draw those things, he could never guess the order in which she drew them ... He clearly said draw 1 is this, draw 2 is that ... So if no trick other than the power of suggestion was used as all of you say, i must say this is very impressive. And besides she drew much more than a boat so i don't know how would you explain the smily sun, the banana, the tree and he even guessed the religion aspect of the first drawing (star of david) ,,, very impressive
tacv 1 year ago
@tacv You did notice that he gave the suggestions in between each drawing, right? For instance he gave the "sail through your mind" comment before she drew picture 2, which was the boat.
I suppose there is any reason not to be skeptical that's it isn't staged, but subtle suggestions from authority can have noticeable effects.

The burden of proof is on you to prove that he is not psychic.
fourp1ay 2 years ago
I'm sorry?
That's not how it works. You can't make a claim and tell people to prove it wrong. You claim to know something and it is impossible for you to truly do so without having seen proof. That's what a burden of proof is.
And considering psychic ability isn't an accepted scientific phenomenon, Derren doesn't claim to be psychic and provides real psychological reasons why his tricks work, your claim is all the more extraordinary.
So. Why do you claim that Derren is secretly a psychic?
sausagedogmcgee 2 years ago 4
This comment has received too many negative votes show
You're the one making a claim.
Funny how he doesn't reveal his 'tricks' as there are no tricks to reveal.
fourp1ay 2 years ago

Idiot :P
yousefamar 2 years ago 3
I'm not sure how your last sentence connects to the rest of what you said... but... NLP has never been scientifically proven. Just... wanted to mention that, in case that's what you were implying...
biglmac 2 years ago
I don't know how to answer that, simply because it *has* been scientifically proven. I use NLP for self-improvement all the time. I own several books on NLP. Maybe you're thinking of NLP in terms of influencing others with words only, but it's more than that. Just look into it a little and I'm sure you'll agree. I mean, I'm no psychology major but saying that NLP hasn't been proven is like questioning the point-line-plane postulate. NLP is a term we gave for a phenomenon that already exists.
yousefamar 2 years ago
@yousefamar Your last sentence seems to put into perspective the discrepancy between what we're saying. It sounds like we need an operational definition to define what we mean by NLP in order to know for sure that we're talking about the same thing. Regardless, I urge you to search for the recent review on NLP, called "NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING: CARGO CULT PSYCHOLOGY?" by Gareth Roderique-Davies.
That is the NLP I'm referring to.
biglmac 1 year ago
@biglmac If that is what you define as NLP, fair enough; I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. To me NLP encompasses much more than that. Alone motivational speaking, the proper use of rhetoric to effectively persuade or argue or the use of positive suggestion to bring about certain behaviour in a person is already part of NLP. And to me it is self-evident.
yousefamar 1 year ago
The boat thing is correct but I still wonder how he suggested to the woman to draw the other pictures. There must be a down-to-earth explanation but I can't figure it out. Perhaps you can?
Drakon222 2 years ago
@Drakon222
Yostani 2 years ago
"Just let different images just SAIL through your mind... Don't go OVERBOARD on detail - please keep it simple"
Then she draws a boat, haha.

Not always, sometimes they're delusional enough to believe in their own stories. In which case they're not technically "con-men", just a bunch of lunatics. The difference is that while the con-men should be thrown in prison, the lunatics should be given a place in a mental institution.

@khatack true enough, and sometimes they are an odd combination of both, though I'd say the con-men outnumber both of the other two species.

I don't think so. Ever heard someone say "he's told that lie so many times he's starting to believe it himself"? I think the vast majority belong to the "odd combination" category. I mean, you must be at least a little nuts to not be be able to con people like that.

Not a controlled environment at all.

i don't think there's anything wrong in choosing to believe in god- it's wrong to do harm on other people and impose your own beliefs on others. but atheists and those who believe in god can live together and simply agree on modes of ethics.
vertigo502 2 years ago 8
In America, God is on our currency. God is in our school pledge. There isn't a single public official who doesn't claim to believe in God. It is illegal in five states to hold public office without believing in God. In the other forty-five, it is impossible. Tax-payers fund the Boy Scouts, which does not allow children who do not believe in God.
People should be able to believe what they believe. But the very nature of religion is conformity and blind faith. This is the society that it breeds.

Religion is extremism.
No one ever bothers to defend Scientology. Why? Because they know it's extreme, and they know it's bogus.
They'd think the same way about that cross hanging over their bed if it hadn't been there since they popped out of their mother's womb.
poweredxbyxhope 2 years ago
well, you just made me realize that you are probably from the USA- where scientology is recognized as a religion. in your country "religions" are registered.
i am talking about "religions" as "movements"- groups of people throughout history came together and formed the basis for the world religions as we know today-- in the traditions of the judeo-christian faiths, and islam faiths. some of them turned extreme and some had violent histories.
vertigo502 2 years ago
... i forgot the eastern movements, like budhaism (which was originally not religious at all), hinduism, and taoism-- these were probably less violent as asian spiritual movements were originally leaning towards mysticism and austerity.
vertigo502 2 years ago
Scientology. The Church of Ed Wood. Apatheism. Jedi Religion. Pastafarianism -- all are registered; all are ridiculed. The religions you mention are older, but just crack open a bible and see how different the Christianity of two-thousand years ago is from the Christianity today. It may as well be new, because I guess people don't feel like stoning their mothers to death for having premarital sex.
poweredxbyxhope 2 years ago
What I don't understand is why you seem to think that a bunch of loonies writing down crazy stories to make themselves feel more comfortable about a world of uncertainty in this day and age is any different from them doing it a couple thousand years ago. People do it now, it's a cult. People do it then, it's a "movement". "Movements" that were not peaceful, were not sane, and were not justified. Eastern movements were no different.
poweredxbyxhope 2 years ago
Just know that a few thousand years from now, people all over the world could be praying to Xenu for salvation. But then, you don't have to worry about that because people probably won't be around. Just like the billions before us who spent more time worrying about their immortal soul than their mortal one, we'll be rotting in the dirt -- blissfully unaware of the potential we had that was repeatedly crapped on and eventually obliterated altogether, simply because we couldn't grow up.
poweredxbyxhope 2 years ago
and belief in god is not limited to religion. there are people who are compelled to believe in something spiritual, which makes sense to them-- others do not require the notion of god to live their lives. the important thing in the end is realizing that it is important to have some form of self dignity and enough respect of other people. something like this will make civilization work regardless of believing or not believing in the existence of god.
