ATV and CTV, conveniently forgot the first interview Dion gave, in which Steve Murphy interrupted him excessively (much more than Jack Layton) and during which Dion responded clearly, calmly, and diplomatically in spite of Steve's many interruptions. The FIRST question of the 2nd interview was very poorly worded and Stephane was merely trying to get a clarification on the question. CTV, by showing what it promised not to, manipulated voters ("we owe it to you") and stuck it to Mr. Dion.
What did CTV manufacture here? They asked a question, gave clarifications and "Mulligans" when asked, and then they realized the question was not the story, the answer was.
Dion and the Liberals were simply being media whores - all they wanted was more chances to get the right soundbite.
By continually giving Dion more chances to get the right soundbite, they no longer remain the 4th Estate, they become little more than a propoganda arm of the Liberal Party, another CBC.

ATV and CTV, conveniently forgot the first interview Dion gave, in which Steve Murphy interrupted him excessively (much more than Jack Layton) and during which Dion responded clearly, calmly, and diplomatically in spite of Steve's many interruptions. The FIRST question of the 2nd interview was very poorly worded and Stephane was merely trying to get a clarification on the question. CTV, by showing what it promised not to, manipulated voters ("we owe it to you") and stuck it to Mr. Dion.

This is unfortunate, because it was pretty clear that he heard the interviewer's words... As bizkitsam pointed out, however, those words made no sense at all. It was such an ambiguous question, yet Dion was perfectly fluent in asking for clarification and further explanation. The only two possible interpretations, either that he became PM "today" or had become PM when Harper did, he tried, and got told "no." Really, really unclassy 'gotcha journalism' on CTV's part to try and make this a scandal

Dion is part of the old team that robbed us of millions of dollars under the sponsership scandle. He even has the old ex prime ministers out helping to get him in so they can steal our money again. How can you forget so quickly. One thing the conservatives didn't do is steal our money to put in their own coppers. We have no choice with the current liberal team but to vote for the conservatives again. At least they are honest with our tax dollars. We don't want a carbon tax either.

Face it. He didn't have an answer. And he isn't able to get a hearing aid or surgery to correct the problem he needs to find another job. Major problems in comprehension due to hearing is ok for 90% of jobs but not for running a country.

If you check the video at 1:23 - 1:25, you can hear the question clearly stated as: "If you were the PM right now AND HAD BEEN FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS .. "
In any case, someone with a decent command of english wouldn't have gotten so hopelessly flustered by it and not been able to deal with it much better than he could. We deserve a PM who can handle himself well in english, not only in french.

If Dion wants to attack Harper for not understanding the economy, he can do that, but what would he have done differently? Not complicated, even if your English isn't that strong.

Come on-- the interviewer's question to Dion was so ambiguous as to be incoherent. "If you were PM TODAY what would you have done 2.5 years ago?" It's the interviewer who should be embarrassed, for putting forth a question so poorly thought out and expressed.

"If you WERE prime minister, what would you HAVE DONE about the economy that Mr. Harper HAS YET to do" - were, have done are both past tense, has yet is future tense, yet Murphy's question was asking about the present. You and I may be fluent in the English language, but believe it or not, to somebody learning English, tenses are a very difficult hurdle to get past.

I didn't think so. If you had, you would've seen that Mr. Harper had no trouble answering questions in his non-native language.
