@irangeles It's because C-NCAP performs the test in 35 mph (56 km/h) where Euro NCAP, IIHS, NHTSA uses 40 mph (64 km/h) for the tests. It kinda raises doubts though, 5 mph is a big difference when it comes to a crash. They need a better high speed camera don't you think?

they are getting better.but as it seems here they made the frontend soft to absorb the energy but the passenger cell hard as a rock.so the frontend collapses too easy and absorbs too little energy.the front has to be a bit stiffer and the pillars have to absorb energy too.otherwise you just die because of g-force.

@ssj4david , North America can be very challenging for some makes. I had a R10 and an early R5 GTL. Besides waiting for bits I found the access to things like the brake master cylinder tiresome, granted the R10 was much easier. I also had a Moskvitch 407 in the US (great little car despite the press) for many years with only the normal issues you would expect from a 40+ year old car. Drove it across England (Truro to Newcastle ferry) and many years in Norway too.
Okay, thats definitely a start. Next step, E-NCAP. And for those of you haters, we'll see how China builds their cars 5-10 years from now. I don't even know why people would intentionally watch a video that they would dislike. Everybody knows... Koreans> Japanese> Americans/Germans. The same thing can very quickly happen, and I wouldn't be surprised if China builds something that's safer than any 5 star E-NCAP car out here today. Hate all you want, but people LEARN.
@ssj4david Sorry, but wtf? A Golf VI can easily take on the best Japan has to offer (the Prius and the Insight, IIRC), and still beat them in terms of safety. Korean cars 10 years ago were totally rubbish, nowadays they are okayish, but again the cee'd, for example, while a decent car, is lightyears away from a Golf e.g. Equipment, safety, handling, quality. Americans I have to agree though. Many American cars are not very good. But German cars are still at the top.
@kadvid German cars aren't reliable (with a few exception from the '80s). I had a Mk5 golf and I just traded it in for a Subaru Legacy. The Golf, in 3 years, had more issues than my '98 Dodge Caravan in 12 years.

@ssj4david ...power steering failed, windscreen wipers failed, aircon failed, ... all within 2 weeks or so). Usually I've been driving (since I was born) French cars, which are supposed to be unreliable. Only time we had problems was with a Renault 19 when it was new, but all the problems (mostly electrical, and the paint was too thin!) were fixed under warranty. Been very reliable after that, apart from maintenance, the Xsara and Kangoo too. The R19 had 250k on the clock when I sold it.
@kadvid Yeah, I can relate to your experience with French cars. My father had a Renault 21 (Rebadged as a "Eagle Medallion" here in Canada) back in the early '90s. It was a great car, but parts were short here in North America so we had to get rid of it after it developed a major radiator leak

The cher carsh tests were 2 years ago, since then they smarted up, reworked their frames, used better steel. Tested them before subjecting them to camera, they have been earning 3 stars and better. Kia cerrato also had a bad rating of 2 stars but went back to improve the frame, and scored better. Chinese car makers are learning the game and you will see better results.
and until i see that they got better with my own eyes i won't buy chinese cars because i'm not forced to sit in a moving coffin... so until they have at least 4 stars like my rio and now i'm searching for 5 stars like forte/cerato, i'm not going to even look at those coffins :) i won't drive these things and not even for free i don't care if they're bad and they're improving and stuff like that when it's good, i think of considering it an option :)

Incorrect, imported cars must meet a greater standard than domestic in the USA, and this has the Chinese upset.
There are very strict Import standards, to deal with the German and Japanese cars, and they responded to the challenge.
The British were the most affected when the rules took effect, even the Rolls could not meet the new USA standards.
But domestic models now are meeting the higher standards as well.

Ralph Nader didn't write 'unsafe at any speed' about chinese cars. it was about US cars and how idiotically they were built.

@DanFrederiksen .... thats because all of those products were engineered in u.s by well educated people..... and is manufactured in china because of cheap labor costs...
so the only credit they get is for labor.... but these cars are the best they can do... which is insanely horrid .... and thats why they failed every safety test.... including in russia.... which by itself speaks volumes.....

these cars are designed and made by chinese engineers, with chinese markets in mind.
in china, they can afford to loose some thousand lifes a day in traffic, and safety cost alot of money so safety has been devalued, if you know what i mean.

THESE GUYS DON'T EVEN HAVE A HIiSPEED CAMERA. Tests are done at the speed of 56kph instead of the ordinary 64kph

doesnt this remind you something? When Japanese (Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc) were first manufacturing cars it was considered horrible back then as it is with Chinese cars today.

The cher carsh tests were 2 years ago, since then they smarted up, reworked their frames, used better steel. Tested them before subjecting them to camera, they have been earning 3 stars and better. Kia cerrato also had a bad rating of 2 stars but went back to improve the frame, and scored better. Chinese car makers are learning the game and you will see better results.

and until i see that they got better with my own eyes i won't buy chinese cars because i'm not forced to sit in a moving coffin... so until they have at least 4 stars like my rio and now i'm searching for 5 stars like forte/cerato, i'm not going to even look at those coffins :) i won't drive these things and not even for free i don't care if they're bad and they're improving and stuff like that when it's good, i think of considering it an option :)

Well, the Chinese car companies know if they have to competre in the West, they will have to make good cars. It's funny that you folks base your assumptions on a few early crash tests. Kia and other Korean models did very poorly when they first started, we all know what happened. At the end of the day, it's the consumer that will decide, not you, whether you like it or not. LOL!

all right then give me the link for a video or a website that state that chinks cars are better and i'll see for myself... i told you i don't care how they do and did, i wan't a safe reliable city car, and until they get better or i see with my own eyes that they're better, i will consider buying one, but until now it's still a moving coffin until i see they're not.. and yeah i know the consumer will decide and that's y we see such bad reviews for these cars... they need to get better SAFER !!!
