R.I.P.Piper Bill. Please remember anybody interested,Bills pipes he played on sword beach along with his kilt, beret and dirk are on display in dawlish museum,NOT the national museum of scotland as always reported in the press ( the ones in normandy at pegasus bridge museum are his spare set.)
@countrywideboy yes, dawlish is 2 miles from Teignmouth (12 miles from Exeter). The museum has just closed for the season and re-opens around the 1st of May next year and will include a special feature on Bills life.
May the old Hero go to his reward, it brought tears to my eyes when I heard of his passing on to glory.
His courage was beyond the call of duty.My old Uncle Reggie was on the beach and he always said the mad bugger gave them the jolt they needed to go forward, imagine the bottle it took to march around among the fire and carnage and still stay in tune!
Uncle Reg said he met him weeks later, they was on the road out of Normandy heading into a show with Jerry and he was leading the column.
bravest of the brave... he must've inspired many soldiers around him...

I have a photograph of this man as he leaves the landing craft on my study wall.
I look to it for courage.
God bless him.

As the heroes of WWII fade away, it's nice to remember an icon. RIP Piper Millin.
