  • This is 'I travel' on speed...the original is slower.

  • AWW,Night Moves,Glasgow in the 80s,this was amazing on a Saturday night !!!

  • It´s too fast!!

  • Hear this first in a nightlcub in nightclub in Brighton with a mate who lived their

I was trying to look cool wearing sunglasses but couldn't see where the hell I was going. I lost my friend but suddenly thought I saw him and promply walked into a mirror. Well we both had spikey hair!

    Good times, great record!

  • @athleticscoach2012 your theme song: "I wear my sunglasses at night"

  • one of the best dance records, thats ever made.

  • no other comment left - brilliant

  • SUPERB ;-)

  • AWESOME more tunes from simple minds like this please, love it

  • one can hear new wave in this, it is a crossover from post punk, and it is close to new romantics but not quite. More new wave. Love it

  • @mayangod1isback Greetings to All from KozmoLouie...........Los Angeles Calif.

  • the picture on 3.56 is made in paradiso holland.....i know i was there....it was very shamefull to be picked up by my mom in her Simca!!!! (orange)......the shame.....danced my soks off btw.....16 years old...now 41 and still love this new wave classic.....new wave was so cool back then.....!

  • I bought the 12 inch single and the record jumped repeatedly! Gutted. This is a classic

  • i woz ateen wen i ferst herd thiss in 1979 - i fink.

  • still mad for it. amazing band

  • I just love this track, but I'm also looking for an other that sounds like this one, and i think its Simple Minds, could it be the one you mentioned - mixed with an other song? Dou have any info on it Daddybopper?

  • Sounds like Donna Summer meets the German band Can meets Gary Newman

  • Jonny and the abusers was their first band...

  • This isn´t the original. It´s a 12" mix released later. The 7" original is shorter with less "effects". Also, this is sped up making Jim Kerr´s vocal almost irrecognisable. So there!

  • I've listened to this album three times, and only just now am I really getting in to it, but I always say the best albums are the ones that take time to appreciate. :D

    God Bless ~Amy

  • They were so ahead of their time really love this song

  • This track would definitely be in my top 10 singles of the early 1980's.It is so perfectly constructed despite the obvious Moroder influence.I'd really love to fall in love with a hot Euro chick but when you live in Perth Australia that's kind of difficult.

  • Gino's II for day's!

  • This is just a little fast. A smidgen slower. But thanks.

  • man i never get tired of listening to this fucking song man i just to get down hasta pinche vueltas en el aire and all kind of shit man that was greaaaat!!!

  • Fucking amazing song; I had a 12" in of this with Changeling on which faded into this version of I travel. Wot a stonking song to boogie to.....and we did like fucking nutcases;) happy days:)

  • @camacho502 We still dance to Gabriel Pegasus spinning this!!!!!!! Backtodisco parties. Disco live in Los Angeles!!!

  • man i remember i just to dance my ass off to this song and moon over moscow from visage at casa espana in la in the 80;s listening to the mixes from pegasus man wish i could go back!!!!

  • Is this the original or a later version?

  • @veloboy This was an original. They made another one mixed with another song. I had the other one back in those days.

  • @Daddybopper Thanks. This version sounds quite different from what I had remembered it sounding like. I don't have the album with me now, so I couldn't check.

  • @veloboy this is poor later version softened for the 00 generation.

  • Thanks daddybopper! I have this on vinyl and this is the only way I can listen to this now since my record player died.

  • Sparkle in the rain was their last great album.

  • once upon a time was the swansong for me,after that bollox

  • i was 14 and 3/4

  • They werent punk, they were nuRomantic

  • I remember dancing to this at the now defunct Hollywood club, "The 7 Seas" .. and at Gino's II .. such memories, what a time to be alive, the whole scene was new and fresh.. and New Wave was pushing the envelope of where music can and did make you feel like you were traveling, oh yeah.

  • whats with the high pitch? way faster than the original and i have several versions...

  • the only band i ever saw that sang songs that they already did as an encore at glasgow apollo maybe they didnt expect an encore

  • Long before Diversity and the likes were a twinkle in their dads eyes. I was at school spinning on my head, popping and boogalooing to this song in front off chums in the boys cloakroom at school. I always remember them asking what the hell this song was. best Minds track ever.

  • is this late 70's? i became 14 in 1980, and knew that this would be music that is going to be played for ever. hail the 80's! The best decade when it comes to music.

  • Yep, pretty dogshit after 1984

  • I guess everybody was 15 when they first heard this song, so was I.

  • @1alexcncmac Good times man! Good times.

  • @1alexcncmac

    Nope I was 21 lol

  • pitch to high!

  • remix sucks. why bother sounding like late 80s early 90s crap when it was all overdone by then? The original is way raw. more energy, immediacy.

  • Let's focus on the positive side, I could not find this song before but now that I know that Youtube has it, I am going to be playing it every day. xoxoxoxo from USA.

  • Mon the hoops Glasgows finest the Minds 30 years and still superb!!

  • dit doet me denken aan de tyd in noordwijk.....

  • Simple Minds, simple the best!

  • 100% Casa Camino - New Wave Disco. There is nothing like 80's music.

  • i danced like a sucker back in the eighties... it was like a trip. Closing my eyes and just let myself go!

  • @diodepio ...and so did I....

  • the single most exciting track ever and truly the best 12"

  • Awesome is the only word to describe it.

    I love this

  • class

  • They're coming to my hometown in the Netherlands; can't wait!!!

  • going to their concert tomorrow :D

  • going to see them in concert in december! yahoo! been a fan of them since i was 13 which was quite some time ago!!

  • Thanks a lot, had forgot about this one. Amazing that 30 years later they can still write songs like "Rockets"...!

Will se them in Florence on November 5, a small club-like venue, seats just 15 meters from the stage. Can't wait.

Now I feel a sudden urge for the fantastic bass line of "Love Song"... coming up! :o)

  • there still on tour in europ

  • i was 15 go to my first rockfestival concert ..simpel minds LIVE anno 1983 rock wechter mis it alot new wave was so cool...

  • Lucky fella! This is Simple Minds at their best.

  • @brusselmenke me too

  • @brusselmenke best dance trac of billiant of 80's

  • Yo Tavo, I remember these songs from my teen years back in the early 80's.

    Thanks Bro. Frank Fabian S.

  • Whats up Dude! If you think this is good, You gotta see my vinyl collection, I have spent years and well over $1000 on rare older 12" singles. If you can think of a tune, I pretty much have it . Yes, even Car Crash and It takes me Higher! I will make you a mixed CD and send it with Oscar.

    Take Care!

  • @Daddybopper the bands sound narrowed and was never the same once Forbes and then MacNeil left...

Nowadays it's a reasonable rock sound but Jim Kerr looks his age and background, his voice has steadily deteriorated...sadly...

  • @WillOrng I think Jim Kerr looks 15 years older than he actually is. He used to be SO beautiful, what happened?? He's only fifty and he looks like my grandpa. Btw, Madonna is the same age... so it's not just age.

  • Makes me feel 15 again, well except everything aches now.

Stunning tune thanks for posting it.

    T

  • I Feel your pain. LOL

  • So do I !

I've got the 12" of this "stored" somewhere.

    Cheers

    T

  • lol im 16 and i have the 12" of I Travel

  • travel plans - europe has a language problem.. simply sublime simple minds

  • WoW I just love this song brings back great memories of my more youthful days. A sheer masterpiece of the era!

  • 1.26 Mullet Alert!

  • lmao.... mullet alert, no kidding... what *happened* to this band??

  • Ca déchire comme au premier jour.

    merci UK

  • This is definitly a remix.

  • Showing my age here LOL but I remember listening and dancing to this with my friends (all Minds fans) in clubs and discos and I still have all the original records and 12" stuff I just can't let go of it!

  • You are not alone DollyBright. We all cant let go.

    Long live the 80's!

  • LOL I know what you mean cos I really miss the great times that we all had. We dressed well, had great original music by some amazing artists, we didn't realise it at the time but we were living in a fantastic era! A younger friend actually recently told me how jealous they were cos I had been a teenager and lived in the 80s WOW what a compliment to us all! Not only can't I let go I DON'T WANT TO xx

  • OMG Sorry I didn't realise you actually put this one up 1st rate I loved The American as well, got both on 12" and still in mint condition too. Just loved it and still do.

  • me too - stamps nightclub cannock - 1983 i think - bloody brilliant times !!

  • Too right I think we all had it totally right in the 80s we were COOL! I wish I could go back and do it all again.

  • This is one of their lesser known songs but one of their best as it really fits within the electonic dance sounds of the early 80s ... danced to it in many nightclubs at that time ... great memories!

  • This guy got confused with "speed your love to me" and sped up the record.

    ; p

  • My mind is traveling all around the globe wishing all mothers a happy Mother's day today 5/10/09. Greetings from LA. CA. USA.

  • This song ruled my life, should have been another Blue Monday. Is there a version anywhere with the hidden "euro-bureau interpol" verse on it?

  • Is this a different version/remix or is it just speeded up a lot?

  • A big Glasgow dancefloor hit and the soundtrack then to the 1980's emerging new wave/electronica dance scene. Evolving out of early Ultravox, Kraftwerk and disco beat type influences at the time imo. The Glasgow clubs like Rosegarden, Penthouse, Shuffles, and The Warehouse played it all the time plus other early instrumental Minds stuff.

Once Upon A Time the Minds where so innovative. Then they decided to make money first and music second...about 1985. Still not so bad at that either though.

  • A masterpiece of a dance track

  • the minds discovered e

  • see the minds in the early years like i did and then have a comment mateyboy as i se boys in the start, london donkeys years..................but i`ll still fucking getting my youth back so you as a SUUUUUUUDENT shut the fuck up mate...........lol

  • I totally agree with BOMBERZAK and PWR1965. This song was like 100 years ahead of its time. the first time I heard I was like WOW. Lets play it again and again and again. This music will never die, it will live forever. Thanks to DADDYBOPPER for an outstanding job on this piece of material. Thank You All.

  • this is turged shit

  • They went mainstream after 1984? They went maincrap. As a former fan I just couldnt believe the pathetic, bombastic, feelgood, stadium rock BS they went on to make afterwards. Rest not in peace

  • love the mullet at 1:58

  • Boy this sons was the time far ahead!

  • ding dang doh!

  • This song was waaaay ahead of its time.

    simple minds' best track imo.

  • Check out Jim Kerr's haircut - he's like Vulcan without ears crossed with Mr Bean! LMAO

  • beautiful song, figh d zokkn ;-)

  • I wish people on here stop saying they went shit after 1984, because they went more main stream. Yes they did a little bit, but they never crave for media attention or nothing. What about real life album in 1991? Fantastic album. They just do good music because its in their blood.

  • Well you are correct that they never craved media attention but the sure-tell sign that an alternative group during the '80s has screwed itself is when they start putting gospel-type black woman backup singers in their music, you know it's going to suck when they start doing that!

I'll say they did made a nice comeback with "Street Fighting Years", but then they took a step back to some pop-style crap again with "Real Life" which had some good songs, but also some real pop-sounding stinkers!

  • LASERLIGHTmusic this one and theme from the great city's.

  • I was dancing to this in the rum runner on broad st b/ham, and I met a guy that used to sing along to this track like I did.Kind of taking the piss out of the way the lyrics sound . We called it jim kerr language ah ta ta away ye go, ill ye ya yee go

  • This is the earlier version of Ghostdancing!

  • A class track!!

    How time just flies!!

  • i love the song,by the way my name is tori nice to meet you-tori

  • isd213 your a sick beaner, i love it!

  • cool

  • Bev Dundee, I was probably dancing to this early doors at The PINK ELEPHANT or at DA VINCIS,I dont know IF you will know this place, ya dont need a DISCO to play decent music, just need a decent tunes player in a PUB

  • brings back all the excitement of club music in the 80s. waiting in the queue to get in a disco and hearing this tune belting out just added to the anticipation of getting away with getting into the nightclub, far too young...

  • I know the feeling! I remember standing in line to get in as the song starts to play. I would hope they would play it again when i am inside. This song had a lot of energy in the clubs. Made you wanna scream like a girl all the way to the dance floor.lol

  • BeV, it was the coconut Grove wasnt it!!. LOL

Or the Fountains if that was too busy.. PSML

  • I just broke out My turn tables!!!!! great job!!!

  • Great song, just like I remember back in LA, thanks for posting.

  • i like this song and the pictures-tori

  • The speed is way too fast of this track! Brilliant song though!

  • estupenda canción

  • This is awesome. Too bad Simple Minds started to suck 1984 onwards.

  • That is very true. Same for all the other bands that go main stream, Like Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and others. My hat goes out to those who stood more underground.

  • hey, durans latest is actually ok. but i agree with sentiment. thanx 4 posting

  • probably before that new gold dream was the end

  • totally agree........ are you scottish?

  • I'm searching for a video of the song "Factory". Can anyone guide me??

  • margotennico - > you'll find live footage on youtube

  • Timeless. I Travel, The American, Chelsea Girl.... Still get me on my feet well into my 40's. This was never the best 12" version. The version segued into Celebrate was much better.

  • what a trip down memory lane, love this song and all their early stuff. Real supergroup

  • it's very fast !!!!!!

  • Sounds Like Sparks

  • How come this sounds nothing like the track on the album Empires & Dance ?..I have every early album by SM I also own a copy of Johnny & the self abusers - Saints & sinners :-)

  • its speeded up..

  • This is one of the 12" versions. There are few remixed versions. If its the speed you are talking about, It was normally sped up at night clubs and house parties as "HIGH ENERGY" music.

Very common with a lot of dance music and early 80's disco.

  • this is the 12' inch i have this on record since 1980's sheer classic.best vertion .

  • best ones chelsea girl life in a day any one going to wemberly arena, november cant wait anne love band so much, thanks agin for this one.

  • I am a HUGE fan of Simple Minds..~! greats song.

  • My favorite songs: Kick Inside Of Me, New Gold Dream, I Travel, This Fear Of Gods, Banging On The Door, Life In A Day, Real Life, Glittering Prize, Waterfront, When Spirits Rise, Chelsea Girl, Murder Story... Just a few to start!

  • favorite Simple Minds song? That would be like naming your favorite child.

    It can't be done!

  • There are only 2 top minds songs this- I travel and Waterfront..........

  • Heard this played on that new "Ashes to Ashes" series I couldn't believe my ears! Fab!

  • i enjoyed ashes to ashes but i think this is being played a fraction too quickly on the turn table.maybe 10 bpm too much still a top top tune.i play to the young and they think its sh** hot

  • I know I have this on 12inch single - aah thems were the days where you could bring 12 inch singles down to the pub or club DJ and say give this a spin for 30 secs and see what gives on the dancefloor. If it was met with a massed dancefloor it stayed on. This is one that lasted its playback!

  • Brilliant thanks for that pal...some bowl hairdo auld Jim sported back in the day...mind ye..some's better than none eh?...aaaaah makes ye want tae git oot the eyeshada, lipstick and rouge again...anyone fir a bit o' backcombing?

  • brilliant

  • Love This F-ing Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant!!!..many thanks!

  • This is too cool. I still have this one. I am Fe"Line From Maywood, The Badest Dj around your area way back in the 80's. I Djed at Casa Florentine.. and so on.

  • I used to DJ when ELEKTRA,BALLET,PEGASUS,ECLIPSE and all the originals where around. Those guys were the BEST. We used to promote parties around Huntington Park and South Gate. We quit right after every kid who only owned a record crate was a "DJ".

  • Thanks for this song. Have all these and very hard to find gems. I used to go to all Ballet vs. Pegasus parties and battle of the DJ's at Pico Rivera Sports Arena

  • Same here. Do you remember the parties at the Ukranian Hall ?

  • Sure do & after I went to Gino's II for after hours most of the Pegasus vs. Elecktra & Ballet parties were there at Ukranian Hall and Rons Records was across the street.

  • Your are right! I forgot about Ron's records.

We used to go there on Saturdays to get the new jams.

  • nice 1 thanks
