  • I requested this lovely song -just this very version- and then went away from yt. I am enjoying it today, and sending you my heartfelt thank yous and greetings, hopeing you are well. Your friend Pq

  • Is this considered more Jazz or Blues?

  • She's so beautiful...

  • One of my most favourite songs.

  • this is great music, im from the 80s but i truely appreciate songs like this

  • que gusto de voz .......una delicia para los sentidos.........y la musica y todo como se hacia en esa epoca maravillosa....

  • Thank You Trooper7h for sharing, it's not too late for me to knowing her she is lovely and beautiful voice

  • From what I heard, the lyrics were entered with a minor flaw.

I believe that it should be:

Some things that happen for the first time,

    Seem to be happening again

I think that this song is meant to be about déjà vu, not recollections. Well, if I can trust Wikipedia on the topic. Thank you for sharing, though. This was lovely.

  • This song is so wonderful :) I was given it to sing in our College production and it has made my day how lovely it is :)

  • Nice- simply lovely

  • Yu kno it's really funny how back thn black women were classy and didn't have to show much skin to get noticed or even have fans becuz they actual talent that is true beauty

  • Another magnificent performance by the incomparable Miss Lena Horne.

  • Wonderful. Love that muted trumpet too.

  • Great video..Thanks

  • Just fabulous! You will be missed Ms. Horne. Thank you for posting this song and the beautiful pictures trooper7h. Just wonderful.....

  • My God! Lena Horne was so supernaturally gorgeous & extremely talented back then. Had it not been for Jim Crow laws, segregation and racism, she would've blown all those Ava Gardner's and Marlena Dietrichs right out the water! No doubt! RIP Ms. Lena Horne! <3

  • i have always loved you, Lena. Thank you for all the beautiful music. I cry at losing you....because you touched my heart.

  • Aonde ou Quando muitos cantaram esta canção, mas com a Lena ficou comovente, linda linda. (adeus Lena)

  • Elegance.

    How she shaped a phrase.

    Effortless.

    Everlasting.

  • Rest in peace.

  • One of my favorite songs by Miss Lena Horne.

She was a real lady. I admired her so much.

The world has lost a great Lady...an Icon.

I was fortunate enough to have seen her

perform on stage at the Fox Theater years ago.

My husband and I will never forget that night.

  • Thank you Angie for sharing and to learn how beautiful and a great singer/performer she is/was. :)

  • Lena Horne

  • R.I.P.P

    Rise in Power & Peace

  • R.I.P. to a beautiful and talented LADY. God bless you, my dreams of show biz were fueled by your example and courage to stand up for not being a stereotype. You were one of a kind. I will always remember meeting you back in 1976, and how kind you were to my Dad and Step Mom when they came to see you! Love you Always, Miss Lena!.

  • I'm a Rogers and Hart fanatic! Shame on me for never having listened to this pairing.

  • I LOVE Lena Horne!! If there were to be a movie based on her life Halle Berry would more than likely be the first choice but I think Alicia Keyes has her beauty down. R.I.P. my beautiful black queen!!

  • Rest in peace, Ms. Horne.

  • Rest in peace, Ms. Horne. You were one of the greats.

  • Rest in Peace, you beautiful lady! :)

  • R.I.P Lena Horne <3

  • RIP

  • I like Peggy Lee's version more...... I LOVE DIS SONG!!!!

  • I wish more posts like this were available! Thankyou

  • This sounds like a foxtrot

  • I dunno....she reminds me of a whitney today.....back then she must have gave off the same star spell as Whitney did back in the day and now I guess.

  • Lovely. Thank you for posting.

  • They asked Janet Jackson to portray Ms.Horne. But with the football media mess up it didn't happen. Halley Berry could play her but she's pass her prime. But if Alica Keys could do it at her age she would be a likely candiate.

  • Alicia keys cant even talk correct she has poor speech. they should have let jasmine guy play lena not Alicia want to be Ghetto and hood girl !

  • It's so cool that Alica keys gets to play her in the new movie! Ahh, i cant wait.

  • I have always loved this song! Great job.

    --------Ellen

  • Best. Version. Ever.

  • Alicia Keyes

  • What a gorgeous woman!

I've seen performances in her early years and what an outpouring of bewitching charm that came from her. A real rare gem.

And what a lovely voice too.

  • Lena is my girl. I loved watching her perform over the years. I wish I could have met her. I'm America's Only Black Sinatra Reginald Blackwell. See me on Youtube and Myspace. I think Lena and I would have made a great pair. She was so beautiful.

  • Oh, I love this song.

It´s been sung by so many singers,

    so many versions.

But which one is the originale one?

  • @helenajesstarzak Ray Heatherton & Mitzi Green. They performed it in the Rodgers @ Hart musical, Babes In Arms.

  • I have seen that movie...

Okay, so they did the originale version then?

  • @helenajesstarzak Actually, I've checked out the Ray Heatherton version on YT and in the comments, someone mentions that he didn't sing it in the show.

However, Where or When definitely first appeared in the Broadway show, Babes in Arms. The movie version came later.

  • My fondest wish was to see Horne and Astaire together in a paso doble! Timing is sometimes cruel since we will never see the full extent of Horne's remarkable talents. She had that same dynamic physical presence seen in Michael Jackson!

  • Her face is even lovelier than her voice - a treat for all the senses! Thank you for sharing this.

  • I was watching the movie "Gaby" on TV last night, where this song figures rather prominently. The movie was rather poor, but the use of this Rogers and Hart favorite was the best thing in it. I'm searching through Youtube looking for the best recording, and it's inevitable that Lena Horne's version would be the best out there.

  • This is timeless.

  • Very well done> school `lia`e

  • I would love to see John Travolta dance to this song especially when the music interlude happens... Its a totally gorgeous song and tune... and having heard at least 12 versions of it I can say without hesitation that Lena's version is way and away the best I have had the pleasure of hearing.

  • @zeeahbella

John Travolta ?? Seriously, why not a real dancer?

  • I don't know what happened to my comment.

Thanx so much for posting this video of this

    great lady..an Icon.

  • @angelasga Angie thank you for sharing..so sad that this Great Lady passed away..I heard it on the news..

  • @angelasga

Why on earth are you replying to me? After being member of Youtube for almost 4 years you still don't know how to use the comment system?

  • @02stv Have you ever made a mistake, or are you perfect?

  • @angelasga

I don't ask you to be perfect, I ask you to know how to comment after 4 years or do you need another 6 years to figure it out?

  • @02stv

Pick on someone your own age Bully..

  • :) x

  • I first saw Ms. Horne on a TV show 30 plus years ago even tho I had heard her singing in a movie or two. She has such a lovely voice and always looks so classy and elegant. This song by Rogers and Hart is a classic and when I saw their lives portrayed in a movie I was so impressed with their immense talent for songwriting. Thank you Trevor for sharing this with us - you've done a great job in creating this video. - Paula

  • Paula,

Thank you for your very welcome comment.:)

I list Lena Horne in my top five of favourite female singers. She has a magnetism that is electric!

I got great pleasure out of making the picture video ... especially as it was a Rogers & Hart composition.... Larry Hart was my next favourite Lyricist after Johnny Mercer. I remember seeing the film of their partnership when Mickey Rooney played Larry Hart.

    Regards and best wishes,

    Trevor

  • What band is it that's backing her up? Very effective! The idea's not to overpower the singer. I love this style of singing from Horne.

  • ccaammiiittoo1,

Thank you for your enquiry and your interest.:)

The information you asked for is as follows... Orchestra Conducted by Lou Bring, recorded December 15, 1941.

    Regards and best wishes,

Lena's giant talent always ensured that she gave the correct interpretation for any of the songs that she sang...

  • thank you very much! :)

  • you said it...so smooth, so moving. I forgot to say you are giving these songs a very smooth and classy figurative side, too.

    That's a beautiful lady indeed!

  • perchequi,

Thank you... It's a great feeling when your music tastes are appreciated by someone else...

  • you are very welcome, thank you for posting these beauties. I think there are many people who appreciate them, just maybe, while in youtube, we don't even think we can find them here. i had a look around for lena horne just after 5 months I'm here!! But i already know her...maybe lots of younger people doesn't even know she existed (poor guys!! can you imagine? missing this classy woman) See you very soon :)

  • And i wouldn't worry so much at the lack of ratings, either...sometimes we are in a hurry and we just forget to do that. I know because sometimes I forget to do that even in clips that I really appreciated. I'm sure all of those people who saw your clips did like them very much, just as i did. Have a beautiful monday!

  • Thank you...You have a beautiful holiday Monday too.
