I requested this lovely song -just this very version- and then went away from yt. I am enjoying it today, and sending you my heartfelt thank yous and greetings, hopeing you are well. Your friend Pq
From what I heard, the lyrics were entered with a minor flaw.
I believe that it should be:
Some things that happen for the first time,
Seem to be happening again
I think that this song is meant to be about déjà vu, not recollections. Well, if I can trust Wikipedia on the topic. Thank you for sharing, though. This was lovely.
Yu kno it's really funny how back thn black women were classy and didn't have to show much skin to get noticed or even have fans becuz they actual talent that is true beauty
this can't remind me of times I wasn't born .Yet I can't help remember of all that magic about the golden age of black and white productions of the 40's ...
Beautiful Lena R.I.P. She was right in an interview that there are so many beautiful Black women who don't get the few chances that she got.She is still the public face of the beauty of Black women. Thanks again Lena u do us proud still.
My God! Lena Horne was so supernaturally gorgeous & extremely talented back then. Had it not been for Jim Crow laws, segregation and racism, she would've blown all those Ava Gardner's and Marlena Dietrichs right out the water! No doubt! RIP Ms. Lena Horne! <3
R.I.P. to a beautiful and talented LADY. God bless you, my dreams of show biz were fueled by your example and courage to stand up for not being a stereotype. You were one of a kind. I will always remember meeting you back in 1976, and how kind you were to my Dad and Step Mom when they came to see you! Love you Always, Miss Lena!.
I LOVE Lena Horne!! If there were to be a movie based on her life Halle Berry would more than likely be the first choice but I think Alicia Keyes has her beauty down. R.I.P. my beautiful black queen!!
They asked Janet Jackson to portray Ms.Horne. But with the football media mess up it didn't happen. Halley Berry could play her but she's pass her prime. But if Alica Keys could do it at her age she would be a likely candiate.
Lena is my girl. I loved watching her perform over the years. I wish I could have met her. I'm America's Only Black Sinatra Reginald Blackwell. See me on Youtube and Myspace. I think Lena and I would have made a great pair. She was so beautiful.
@helenajesstarzak Actually, I've checked out the Ray Heatherton version on YT and in the comments, someone mentions that he didn't sing it in the show.
However, Where or When definitely first appeared in the Broadway show, Babes in Arms. The movie version came later.
My fondest wish was to see Horne and Astaire together in a paso doble! Timing is sometimes cruel since we will never see the full extent of Horne's remarkable talents. She had that same dynamic physical presence seen in Michael Jackson!
I was watching the movie "Gaby" on TV last night, where this song figures rather prominently. The movie was rather poor, but the use of this Rogers and Hart favorite was the best thing in it. I'm searching through Youtube looking for the best recording, and it's inevitable that Lena Horne's version would be the best out there.
I would love to see John Travolta dance to this song especially when the music interlude happens... Its a totally gorgeous song and tune... and having heard at least 12 versions of it I can say without hesitation that Lena's version is way and away the best I have had the pleasure of hearing.
I first saw Ms. Horne on a TV show 30 plus years ago even tho I had heard her singing in a movie or two. She has such a lovely voice and always looks so classy and elegant. This song by Rogers and Hart is a classic and when I saw their lives portrayed in a movie I was so impressed with their immense talent for songwriting. Thank you Trevor for sharing this with us - you've done a great job in creating this video. - Paula
I list Lena Horne in my top five of favourite female singers. She has a magnetism that is electric!
I got great pleasure out of making the picture video ... especially as it was a Rogers & Hart composition.... Larry Hart was my next favourite Lyricist after Johnny Mercer. I remember seeing the film of their partnership when Mickey Rooney played Larry Hart.
Great version, of this beautiful song. 5* to you Trooper 7h :-) Very Lush and dramatic version. The Horne does it again! (Bruno you naughty boy! - I Think youi dialed the wrong number)
