WARNING from a JKA life member: Years with the JKA (Japan and America) revealed contradictions that caused me to study original karate (beginning, what it is, why developed, how taught, general syllabus). The JKA practices a sport and it has eliminated much of original karate. As such it is not a martial art and is not karate at all. For the discerning and the objective; if you really want to learn of karate, Okinawa is the source. Find a teacher of PROVABLE lineage, it is fascinating.
Martial Arts are always changing, especially as the come in to contact with different styles and different approaches by different people. This "original" Karate you speak of evolved from Kung Fu, so why not study that instead?
By the same token, you might as well say Bruce Lee isn't a martial artist because he didn't do things the "traditional" way. There's more than one way to skin a cat and your martial arts will never grow if you're going to be so narrow minded.
@Woolfrey Typical deluded remark from a Shotokan haven. The first thing you need to understand is that a 23 year old perspective severely lacks experience and wisdom. Second, karate did not evolve from gong fu, you simply are ignorant. Third, a well devised, comprehensive unarmed martial art does not need to evolve, it is simply satisfactory as is. Fourth, Bruce Lee was a martial artist, what he did not do is call his art by the name of a previously established one. The JKA arrogantly did that.
@Woolfrey I am constantly amazed that kids think they can possibly be experienced in this subject. You have not been here long enough! All, that would be every one, the entirety, throughout, of the name karate teachers are older people, did you ever wonder why? It is called being seasoned, experienced, accomplished, knowledgable and faithful to training and the spirit of their art. YOU AREN'T THERE SONNY! And, given the context of your remark, you may never be, delusion does not produce it.
trained this thursday with sensie johan in early bird s.a. instructors class. all i can say as that we are in really good hands as he is really back to the roots of jka karate if you get a chance come train with nus to see for your self.
I agree that some of this might not be useful, but there is a guy who has trained in karate do shotokan is the current UFC LHW champion, now THAT is funny
maybe they named this after Kenneth Funakoshi ..lol. But honestly..ryosuke is carzy man..if he cant win..he just simply hurt the guy and go home..crazy..
if he was to hurt his opponent on purpose he should be stripped of his rank for humility a disgrace to our art if thats his out look, respect our fellow being is part of our art my friend, bow
