  • how do you classify steves playing?..it just is beyond other players stylistically!! funk--broken time signatures, his sound, the way the guy changes his switches every three seconds...and his vibrato...there is no closer to perfect playing than this guy

  • Good stuff Larry. Love that guitar Too tried one @ John Castellano HOM

  • hqhqhq Guthrie Who??? They never can belong to Morse's School. And he knows it.

  • This is extremely important advice he's giving here. If you wish to improve your playing drastically, practice the stuff he's talking about. It will be hard, it will be frustrating, but it will ultimately prove empowering when you incorporate the techniques into your own playing.

  • this band's guitarist plays like Steve Morse!!!! check em' out!!

  • Great video Larry This was funny as informative met you a few times you did some pick ups for me glad I came across your channel. c];-)

  • Ok- question for someone out there-

so speaking about 3 note per string runs he's saying UDU-DUD-UDU and so on and this is called alternate picking""- so is that just a warm up or does he play runs like that always? I read about economy" picking in a book and that is DUD-DUD-DUD- and so on that there are 2 down strokes together and the book calls that economy"- are alternate and economy not the same thing?

  • @mf2304 alternate is when you strictly play UDUDUDUDUDUDUD, economy is when you have 2 up or downstrokes anywhere ( can be mixed with alternate, like DU DU DU UD UD UU UD UD).

  • @mf2304 theyre two different techniques, alternate picking follows the rule of strict up and down, every downstroke must be followed by an upstroke and viceversa, economy picking is the most logical way of picking, cause lets say you play a 3 note per string scale or lick, and you start D U D, alternate picking says that the next stroke should be U, but that requires going over the next string in order to pick up, so what do you do? you drag the pick down, like sweep picking, and play the same

  • I'm mindblown how he picks arpeggios so fast.

  • i think morse is one of yngwies influences he never mentions.

  • Morse is so awesome. He and Jeff Beck are still as great as ever, and they're both ageless wonders. Seriously, they have not changed or aged in 30+ years!

  • outstanding guitar player!!! great style, beautiful bends, melodies, technique, you name it. #1

  • He alternate picks arpeggios as fast as most ppl sweep

  • realy cool guy :)

  • larry I from argentina , i have the super distortion pickup in my hamer is brillant !

  • hahah he should do stand up! he's funny

  • i think he lives in my town

  • @LarryDiMarzio Hello Larry. I have been playing dimarzio since i started playing guitar and currently am using Tone Zone in bridge and Air Norton i neck position. i have a question regarding my single coil (Evolution single currently - previously used evolution set and changed only the humbuckers). Which single coil would be best with these 2 pickups? Im rarely using the middle single, rather in combo in 2nd and 4rth position. Been looking at the True Velvet pickup but im green with the singles.

  • @eMKayJR

A True Velvet middle pickup (DP175S) should be good.

  • @LarryDiMarzio Ok, thx a lot :D

  • @LarryDiMarzio Wow! Larry DiMarzio! Thank you for all your work & contributions over several decades. From me & every guitarist I've ever known.

  • Killer tone and brilliant performance! Thanks Steve.

  • id love to get the pickups he has on the Y2D for my Silhouette Special but here in austria they are not available in the colors id want (black or white) and ordering from US the shipping costs would probably exceed the price of the pickups lol.

    :'(

i love steve, he's the reason i started to play guitar.

  • just ordered a scratch plate for my silo spec, its being imported from the US to the UK and its costing about 20 great british pounds for postage/ customs etc. so i know what you mean

  • this guy is simply amazing

  • what song he is playing at 2.48 mins onwards

  • @anarazi he is just playing major chords one note at a time although it does almost resemble one of his songs Tu Many Notes

  • this made me lulz, and his tips have helped me so much more than any other guitarist (Petrucci is a close second)

  • this is really good actually

  • is he using an engl invader/powerball? must be before he got his signature head

  • Love it! So funny. Steve your the best.

  • he is so so funny

  • Morse is the best of the best.... love him...

  • yes indeed!!!

  • OMG this was filmed at Music Villa right over the way in Bozeman, that's cool to stumble into seeing! This is what I got for not going to that event...

This guy is phenomenal. Seems a real nice person too.

  • @JobXplorersCom met him in Toronto

  • hm anyone has idea where can i Download this version in DVD or somethin cause i have southern steel album and it does not sound like this version :(

  • Battle Lines! Sweet.

  • His hands look huge!

  • There's no way to be certain in advance if any pickup set will be exactly what you want, but this is a perfectly good combo.

  • I just bought a Steve Morse signature pickup for the bridge after watching this, and a PAF Pro for the neck. do you guys think that's a good combo?

  • haha.. steve is hilarious! didn't know that!

  • well done dimarzio.. steve morse is the best musician that is alive.

  • Morse is the best , yeaaahhh!!!!!!!

  • He's a genius!!!!

  • Great ,thanks a lot ,superbe.......

  • very interesting vidéo, steve got a great sound, I'll buy some Dimarzio pickups to custom my strat soon.

  • Hi Larry! thanks you for your special job and help you provides us. I have a question. Is it possible to do that an ibanez (Prestige RG Basswood body) sounds nearly like a gibson Custom 57'? (lots of wood and fat sound and this might come in useful for virtuous and cleaner solos) Which DiMarzio pickup works best to do this, for Neck position?

    Best Regards.

  • hmmm, the tone is not the same as on the other vid, cant figure out whats changed though

  • Hi,

The two videos were recorded with different mike systems.

    Hope that helps,

    Larry DiMarzio

  • yeah that explained it, thanks m8

  • @LarryDiMarzio

Larry, I have nice question. I want to buy new pickups but I don't know which choose EMG or DiMarzio.

    Why should I buy DiMarzio's? :D

  • @mazingguitar

I´m not Larry, but the answer to your question is simple: You should buy DiMarzio because they are the best pickups to buy.

  • @LarryDiMarzio hi, i'm searching for a neck pickup for my jackson kelly (maple neck, rosewood fretboard, indian cedro body) can i get a tone like this with an evolution? thx

  • Pls, where to get full version of this clinic?

  • what pickups are those? =)

  • Hi,

Steve is playing the Steve Morse signature DiMarzio pickups. They will be available soon, please call 800 221 6468 for purchase information.

    All the best,

    Larry DiMarzio

  • Hi Mr.Dimarzio. Will the single coil be available also? Thanks for so many years of great tone!!!

  • Hi,

Yes, they can be ordered direct from DiMarzio. However, they are not part of our regular price list. Please remember that the pickups were design to work in the Music Man guitar. If you have any additional questions speak to one of our techs (800 221 6468).

    Hope that helps,

    Larry DiMarzio

  • Larry,

Thanks for the great posts. My great friend and bass player built a left-handed copy of the Morse Y2D guitar and I just love it. The pickups sound fantastic. After request for years from me, Ernie Ball has steadfastly refused to build a lefty Morse model for me but it worked in my favor since I ended up with one that's that much more special and it's absolutely gorgeous also, all natural finish, exotic woods and a clear pickguard.

Thanks again and keep the great posts coming.

  • Morse is lefthanded, incredible that he developed such a righthand technique.

  • @SevenCircles morse has his strongest hand on the neck and thats where you need it, got an autogragh from him and he singned it left hand

  • Great video,

Steve is a great guitar player and does an great job when he is playing guitar for Deep Purple.

  • Thanks for posting this!

Always great to hear and see Steve.

  • i have that guitar!

  • Awesome dude! Thanks for posting!!

  • hahaha nice video.

  • haha i love his sense of humor.

  • Good thing I've been alternate picking AND taking my vitamins!!
