@mookeychase0907 I really don't know, We also have some lighter colored ones around here. More than likely, it has to do with their genetics, as opposed to their diet or surroundings.
Ran across many of these in the rice fields. Some would just look at you like you owed them something; some would run away and others would attack. Kinda like people really.
@dweathers56b Turn the situation around, If you were hunting for a meal and a snake came up, You would try and scare it away, Some people would do everything they could to kill it, Others would run like it was the devil himself. Your right, a lot of simularities, Scary.
@hardtimesx2 I opt for running away like it's the devil himself. :) Oh, I think it's neat to see one and I would like to see a sight of them resting on a log but I sure don't want to get too close. At least not anything venomous or something that can easily kill or eat me, for that matter. Oh, I mean I would work w/ them if I had to but only w/proper equipment that kept the head away from me like a grabstick. I would handle the head-end ever, though, b/c it might squirm loose or tag me.
i live in arkansas and i know what kinda snake that is. its a cottonmouth not a water moccison.you can tell by the real whiteness in its mouth.and not only that, that thing is real fat and pure black.but also, cottonmouths can come in diffrent shapes and colors.be carefull
@westsiderebel1 Water Moccasin's (Agkistrodon Piscivorrous), are commonly called "Cottonmouth's" due to the white in thier mouths, But they are the same {:-)
If he had been in my yard, Things would have been a little different, I've ate several Timber Rattlers, (Love 'em battered and deep fried) I won't hardly kill anything that I don't plan to eat, But I'll think about the cottonmouth "Kill It & Grill It " video.lol
I've eaten a few. I don't kill em unless there are to many people around, especially kids. Then after I kill them I feel guilty if they just go to waste.
Dad did that with a porcupine one day ... that was really not good lol. Tasted like boiled cardboard, nasty.
I don't know but we do the same thing to the water snakes at Grand Lake St. Marys. They don't seem to play well with others either. And they don't like smoke bombs either!
Just kill it !

Why is this one so dark like the Western Cotton mouth?I noticed the Eastern and the Florida Cotton mouths are lighter then the Western.

@23LEGOman agreed only the most stupid people on the planet would play with a cotton mounth pissibly on the top 10 list of poisonous pitvipers

@MrBillybob96 actually, no where close to making the top ten list. Its not even considered to give a fatal bite when striking a healthy adult.
