I dunno, I don't think it's fair to say Matt Hughes and Randy Couture would have trouble in the ring. They have both fought for smaller orgs where they've fouhgt inside a square rope ring. The problem is most PRIDE guys don't have experience in a cage.
What got me the most is that these were perfect conditions for a knockout, hence the event's title "Knockout." Lots of people expected Chuck Liddell to knock Jardine out, especially after that Houston Alexander fight. Then there was Shogun and Griffin, who lots of people were saying that it would be the first death in MMA. Anyway, perfect conditions, but no product. Crazy as hell how unpredictable MMA is. Oh yeah, Wand and Chuck are fighting Dec. 29th.
76 was craaaazy should have been called upset...but nobody really expected un upset of that magnitude...Now i cant even bet, I just cant count nobody out...peace and viva mma.
You know shogun had a blown knee right? Never pushes the pace? what kind of ridiculous shit is that. How can someone be overrated in your opinion and yet you obviously have never seen them fight.
lol just ike dana white says, if your from brazil or japan your imiediatly in the top 10, mma ranks and your idea of good fighters are very bias, shogun is overrated, and so is pride, oh wait, WAS pride.
shogun, doesnt push the pace in any of his fights, maybe the first round, then its done. Now we get to see what pride fighters are really made of with now down kicks, like fucking gorilla's.
I hate to break the news, but Fitch's jiu-jitsu is nowhere near Diego Sanchez's... per the comment: "Everything Diego does, Fitch does a little bit better."
I really think the Wandy vs Chuck fight should still happen. Enough is enough to many excuses have stopped this fight for too long. Us the fans wanted to see this fight, the fighters have wanted this fight so just make it happen. SO what if one man is 0-2 and one man is just getting started. Now that they r in the same organization there should b no excuses JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
Until Shogun gased he looked sharper technique was better and his strikes looked more dangerous, once he gets his cardio back to normal he is going to wipe the floor with guys like Griffin. UFC guys put a different level of preparation into fights than some of the Pride guys have. Tailoring your strategy to your opponents style is a huge deal in MMA these days. Wanna see what happens at 205 lot of greater fighters lots of great matchups in particular I hope Alexander gets another test soon
It was very strange to see Shogun out of gas in the beginning of the second round. Looking back to the first he looked like he exerted alot of energy, and seemed out of gas even at the end of the very first round. I do feel that UFC style training involves highly intensive hours just focused on stamina/endurance/cardio.
An interesting thing to note is that Shogun, Henderson and Nogueira had not fought for 6-7 until their UFC debuts. Rampage was the only smart one and kept active, and Cro Cop was too stupid to think that the cage/UFC rules were that much different.
I'm really shocked at Shogun though, I didn't expect him to gas.
Also, I definitely think Tavares/Griffin was a lot closer than the judges made it out to be. If anything, Griffin won a split decision, certainly not unanimous.
when there organization was up in the air. Wait a little while...they're get back in shape. I think Wandelai is training hard now (he's smart and taking to prepare). IT will interesting to see his performance. Chute Box is as good as any organization - if not better...than any "american gym" out there!
What am I missing here? Why do people listen to a 20 minute long opinion from a complete nobody? And please understand, I'm not being an ass. Just confused. Do these people do this to audition for a job?
I'm interested in hearing the opinions of knowledgable MMA fans. I don't know, I guess since none of my friends know sh!t about MMA I turn to youtube haha.
I guess that makes sense. I guess I know more about the fighters than the average person so it just seemed like a stupid idea to me. This makes sense though, thanks for your answer.
I'm glad that Jardine actually got the decision for the fight he clearly won. After Hamill vs Bisping, I was ready for another WWE-type "storyline" decision. Heh, Liddell raised his hands after the fight and the crowd booed.....
I see the decisions becoming irrelevant pretty soon, and stuff like run-ins and fighters in masks not too far off. (*cough*WWE*)
shogun looked like craaaaapppp. Since he won gp he hasn't been the same. Shogun was in baaddd shape. I saw that in the pre-fight talks. He was overweight chubby and his cardio was out the window. Shogun needs to come back to earth. Well, he's back now lol. disscusting preformance from shogun.
The pride fighters are having lots of trouble in the ufc and one comment that joe made i think its really true ufc fighters just look some much bigger than pride fighters when they'r standing next to each other , i think guys like shogun and cro cop could easily go down a weight class and be more effective.
really the best thing i can think to do is just have a last showdown between chuck and wanderlei to see who still has it... advertise the fight like both these guys are getting accused of being washed up and we're going to see who still has that golden material. would love to hear your take on that. to just say were gonna see who still got it.
i hope forrest fights wanderlai silva...these pride fighters are over rated..they been beating up little asians for too long..ufc is kicking prides ass.
i like ufc more than pride, but dont stoop to their level with gay comments like that, just be the bigger man and keep obvious comments like that to yourself. dont be like a childish pride fan
I think Chuck, in terms of training techniques and general approach to fighting, is stuck at the level MMA was a couple of years ago. Great fighter, but the MMA world has moved on from what was workable in the past.
Wow, UFC never fails to suprise when it comes to upsets. MMA is such an unpredictable sport, much much much more so than boxing. Great video and analysis of the fights. Really dissapointed in Shogun and Chuck. I was hopeing Sanchez would win too. Definately shakes things up, should be some interesting matches in the future.
I respect all mma fighters, but the events of lat night ruined mixed martial arts for the rest of the year, as far as 205 goes. Because Forrest won, we don't see Rampage for the rest of the year.
Now because Jardine won, We don't get Wand V. Chuck.
got a question, shogun was rated as the number 1 lhw in the world, and rampage was number 2. so now is rampage rated as the number 1 lhw in the world now. with shogun losing to someone not even rated in the top 10.
In a few days, the mmaweekly website will probably have Rampage ranked as the #1 LHW, and Shogun might be #2. For all the MMA fans to declare Rampage as #1, he still has to beat Wanderlei and Shogun. The website will probably put Forrest in the top ten.
i really hope wanderlei has a good performance =/ hes one of the guys i really wanna see do good. i wanna see quinton vs wanderlei again. the two best staredowns
Yeah, I knew Fitch and Forrest were gonna take their matches. Real disapointing for Shogun, everybody expected big things. Pride fighters, I think they are just having a hard time with the transition to the cage. And what was wrong with Liddell? I think his time has come to retire. He should pull a Couture. I don't think we'll ever get the Axe Murderer and The Iceman in the cage. Oh well. Good event and a night of upsets. I'm just glad Fitch pulled through. Nice vid.
Yeah, whats wrong with Liddell himself not throwing some kicks? He just switched to being a boxer instead of being a kickboxer. If he developed his kicks, he would be unstoppable. But he just sticks with his hands nowadays.
From what his coaches say Chuck has great kicks. I think he's just gotten to used to fighting grapplers and not being able to throw his kicks. What he really needed to do was pop off some knees when Jardine ducked in. He'd have to stop attacking or risk getting knocked out. Would've thrown the guy way off.
They should have called it UFC 76: Decision. I had picked Jardine to win because I didn't think Liddell could hang with great strikers, and I was sort of right. And Machida's a can. He landed maybe two shots and just smushed Nakamura against the cage.
hey good vid, yeah i mean now a days if you want to win in the ufc you gotta be very fit and have awesome technique, guys like liddell who dont adjust during a fightpay the price
