  • what is the name of the valerie look a like ? very attrative girl, I am curious to see what she looks like today, love this song and sentimental lady, I was 14 and my parents always listened to this genre of music, so I love it all. Bless all of you who made this awesome music

  • rock and disco had a kid

  • "I'm really NOT Valerie Bertinelli!" LOL.

  • Dr Bombay as a Druze, I believe.

  • a sun-burned Shriner?

  • champion of a song - luv it!

  • i liked bob welch and this song

  • i just liked....

  • Couldn't find the tweet, but at least someone agrees that this song sounds like "The Cheater" by Bob Cuban and the Innmen. No one sued? Yet "He's So Fine" sued "My Sweet Lord"? Now "Big Wide World" and "Take Me Back" were written by the same person; so no problem.

  • @grammarita1 not even close the song the cheater blows

  • The powerful sounds of Bob Welch...and Steve Miller Band.....

  • Great forgotten song...

BTW: I like how Bob is rockin' the Opti-Grab's.

  • June 1977 when I remember hearing this. I was about 8 and half then. I still have memories of radio programs back then in Ohio WGCL Cleveland. Miss those days. Music was better in those days. Everything was simple.

  • Take my word for it......Bob Welch used to paaaaaaarrrrrrttttttyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!11

  • Oh..that last comment was for SouthJerseyGuy1....

  • I like your comment..don't say your birthday is February...'cause that would be freaky...I'm 52 also?

  • @TheGoldnotes Sometimes in life, the powers that be just throw some freaky coincidences at us.... I'll be 53 on February 14th,2012

  • @SouthJerseyGuy1 Happy Birthday ,ahead of time.

  • Another favorite from my teen years! Thanks for sharing :)

  • I remember seeing this new,I was drug and alchohol free then, now I forget what I had 4 lunch :)

  • Valerie was born 3 days b 4 me

  • The 70s! We had artists form the 60s, the revival of 50s musicians and of course all the 70s talent itself.Even the future stars of the better 80s music. I dont think there ever was or will be a culmination of music like this again. When you think of all the musicians and music types its just amazing.I miss those times but wouldnt have traded living through it for anything! In my opinion the most cultural diverse decade in history in every sense. love it!

  • Forget Valerie Bertinelli, is that Grace Jones as a drag king?

  • I like this video! It's trippy and funny! LOL

  • Another Great Song By A Very Talented Singer, Rock On Bob, This Crap Now Adays Just Can't Compare!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very few people were in the right time and place with the right music like Bob Welch.

  • Aww sweet memories

  • I have dark brown eyes and would much rather be serenaded with this song than "Brown Eyed Girl", a song that over time has gained a significant amount of hokey cheesiness. Nothing against Van Morrison, though. This song's also got considerably more power to it and "it's got a good beat and you can dance to it", as one of the "American Bandstand" sages would say.

  • Bob Welch didn't play for the Grateful Dead.He played guitar and sang as front man for Fleetwood Mac.

  • The jam

  • A Fezz????? LOL.......... good look dude.

  • Still love this song!

  • Hearing this song brings me vividly back to my Junior Class Ski Trip at Mt. Sugarloaf in Maine. It was a bitterly cold morning with clear blue bright skies. I can smell the burnt bacon and I can still picture the girl from the school in Connecticut that put this song on in the jukebox. Amazing.

  • @johnm28med Excellent John! keep that memory alive for ever!

  • @johnm28med I know what ya mean...I'm about 10 yrs younger but this song has the same meaning for me. Another great one for the same reason is Dream Weaver. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

  • I heard this song tonight thank you Mr. DJ.

  • He must have been so embarrassed when he looked in the mirror in the dressing room and realised what he'd had on his head!

  • Bob Welch played for the Grateful Dead. This is quite a departure for him.

  • @hoibsh Fleetwood Mac.

  • College in the late '70's.... nothing got you layed like the album... French Kiss !

  • Larry LOVES Bob welch! K-Larry!

  • Remember folks that today's tres chic is tomorrow's clown wear.

  • Geez, they couldn't even lip synch correctly back then?

  • This song is the Jam!! Bob Welch the eagles! Amazing!!

  • looks like a 70s pornstar convention :P

  • Fez guy is the boring husband who doesn't realize his wife is smoldering hot. And Bob I enjoyed your performance in the 1978 World Series. Different Bob Welch? Never Mind.

  • Seeing the amount of dislikes for this classic tune,it looks like 42 people need to recieve a matching set of Ebony Eyes.

  • @Nerfherder1980 agreed!

  • I know videos were new back then, but come on. The girl isn't even in the corner in the video & what does the guy with the fez have to do with anything?

  • Yes I thought that was Valerie Bertinalli

  • I want a fez now.

  • Did anybody actually think that was Valerie?

  • @usryb that has GOT to be valerie bertinelli

  • @thebrothersinstep

Found this in a Bob Welsh article

"Contrary to rumors, Valerie Bertinelli is not the girl in the video."

But I agree she looks a lot like Valerie looked at about the time this was made

  • 2:59 Pablo Cruz?!

  • It's kind of funny to see him holding the mic in the video

  • I have always really liked this song. Thanks for posting it. It really takes me back.

  • I haven't heard this in 30 years

  • @Titsmageeski Neither have I, however? Makes a very sad statement, does it not? I realize now I have forgotten more good music than kiddies now will ever hope to hear?

  • Wow, that Frank Spencer really can sing! Oh wait, it's just a look alike! :)

  • music videos had come far since this video was made for shure!!

  • I still have some cool glasses like that. I take them with me for backups on my backpack hunting trips in the mountains. Haven't had to wear them yet, but if I did I bet the elk would even laugh at me.

  • OMG my neice was named after this song after he father would always sing "your eyes got me women that il be holding you close tonight" all this time i thought it was ebony and ivory lol

  • She absolutely haunted me that Fall of 1979. Her name was Yvette and she was this brunette, green eyed Cajun beauty who was one seat ahead of me in European Lit. I stared at her beautiful hair and smelled her Channel perfume every Monday, Wed. and Thursday. I tingled inside. When she would ask me for an extra pen, or piece of paper, I melted. One day, I slouched forward in my seat, my legs touching her chair. She turned her heard slowly and smiled, with eyes fixed on mine.

  • Thanks to Viagra I still wear out young chicks like this and I was in HS when this came out.

  • my dad listens to this i love it!

  • Man i forgot about this song, i love it.

  • great song! weird video though.

  • Just turned 50 and still fill like a rock star.

  • @syphen90125 And you spell like one too.

  • it looks like this 1977 music video was shot at a restaurant where coke dealers like to hang out at

  • @jste77 That`s likely true since Bob Welch had a bad coke habit.

  • @jste77 as opposed to the one you hang at? :)

  • this song always makes me think of my first crush, Sherry Evans third grade, Holbrook Elementary

  • Ebony would be a cute name for a girl. Not that I'd name my kid that, but I'm just sayin, brown eyes...

  • @FangnclawXD ebony is black

  • @davidrussell41 Ah. It would be a nice name for someone with dark eyes then, u get the point.

  • Hi Bob!!

  • Not that it sounds bad here, but this song just sounds better on the radio...

Sometimes, especially in the 60's and 70s they were mixed just for that...

One of the best forgotten 70's songs ever.

  • Always thought the beret was a dumb look for Welch...hell, its a bad look for most people.

  • I liked this side of Bob Welch, but for my money he never wrote a better tune than "Hypnotized" - in my opinion, the best pre-Lindsey/Stevie Fleetwood Mac tune.

  • Loved this song from high school. Played it at every lunch period.

  • i like this! yep. an old car, a girl, and music, back in the day! 77-81 for me H.S. Keep Rockin!....

  • wow been a long time since I heard this song. Wow. 25 years?

  • That's Val, same cute nose

  • Wonderful Music..Whenever I hear it on FM or Xm ,goosebumps from a past era!!

  • its not valerie bertinelli i did a side by side

  • yup it looks like a young valerie 2 my 2 i's

as well as it looks like a bob welch i knew

in 1978 however the resemblence stops

    with those 2 @ looks!! - lol !! - lol !! - lol !!

  • I adore YOU!

  • Bob Welch was in Fleetwood Mac before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham!!

  • You are right the 40's are the best decade........50's are pretty good too.

  • like to use lyrics for polka-dot bikini: "she was afraid to come out of the locker.."

  • buenisima ca ncion buena onda quien la subio

  • Canadians. Silly silly.

  • in the 60s and 70s you never knew what was the next big hit was comming from ,today it all sounds the same from country to rap cookie cutter music

  • @tryby12 oh yeah ? those days rocked, Rubber Ducky & Convoy, Kung foo fighting,Disco Duck.. should I keep going ? there was far far more garbage over the AM waves than good ! I'd say equal to today.

  • love the pop up

  • nastalgic

  • This song reminds me when I was six years old and my dad bought me a R2-D2 Star Wars action figure at the store when my mom told him not to do it.

  • Is that Dennis Franz wearing a Fez?

  • Classic great

  • Those were my old day's.

  • I love this song but, I have to say....I could've done without this vid. It's sooooo stupid! My imagination created a much better one. When I watch this I can't help but think...How could someone as talented as Bob Welch act like such a dufuss in front of the camera?!! Oh well...it's still a great song.

  • @SuperBonnie66

Awww, c'mon! This was 1977, the music video hadn't even been acknowledged as an art form. MTV was still four years from being hatched. In a way these early works were better. There was no establish form with all it's cliches.

  • If wishes were horses huh! I'd love to go back and do it all over.

  • strange but catchy tune!

  • I posted 9 months ago, found Bob Welch on audiocandy website and asked about the girl in the video, here is his reply:

WH...The girl in that video was /(is) named...Marianne ....forget her last name (sorry), and she was the girlfriend of an engineer/writer partner of mine at the time, John Henning. The guy in the red hat was Carl Scott (RIP) Warner Bros head of artist relations.. Most of the people in the video were record company people, friends, girlfriends of friends, etc.

  • i remember this tune..i had a 71 dodge dart with a 8 track... fire up that doobie!!

  • @kmars21

    Amen brother

those were the good ole days

  • A fUKKIN MEN BRO

  • That brunette is so hot. Who is she?

  • Those sunglasses are cool.

  • I used to drive this stupid army green Vega during my sophmore and junior years in High school(1980-81) I fantasized about this girl named Carla who drove her Daddy's Continental and always parked next to me. She looked like Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I was this geeky Math kid, but I would always try and get Carla's eye during Lunch in the Cafeteria. One day after Algebra class Carla cornered me about some tutoring she might need. My God, I was in glory for 10 weeks.

  • @jeff62rey My name is Carla.

  • @jeff62rey what happened?

  • @balancepiston Fast times at Lee Senior High(lol) Carla refused my invitations for dates the first few weeks of our tutoring sessions, but I guess I began to grow on her. We began to date around week 5, or 6 and then we 'went together' for the rest of the year, but she moved to California over the next summer and I haven't seen her since.

  • Just... terrible.

  • This song still kicks ass!

  • Great song, not so great video, & hell no, that wasn't Valerie (spell it correctly please!) Bertinelli, although this chick didn't look bad.........Valerie was/is as hot as they ever get........

  • I wouldn't want that _igger lovin ghetto HO back , let her stay with that spider monkey metro sexual freak. Sloppy seconds no thanks...

  • 40 ppl must have had Siamese eyes! lol

  • Anyone know what Bob does today?

  • @brofranomo Short order cook...

  • @pacattack05 Nope. Chases UFO's

  • @brofranomo yeah , he washes cars and is a gaspump jerk

  • @leonakita No, he's a UFO chaser JERK. !!!!!

  • @brofranomo thats suppose to be better?

  • @leonakita Least he 's not broke and desperate and homeless like Sly. He has a hobby, how many of us can say that? The "Sly" I'm referring to is the Sly of Sly and the Family Stone. Article in the paper yesterday. Sad, very Sad.

  • @leonakita Oh, one other thing. He wrote and sang to probably one of the best songs that fleetwood mac ever did when he was a member. The song is called "hypnotized." Check it out, I don't know your age so I can't say "did you know" so to speak. It's on You Tube and it's called "hypnotized." It's about UFO"s and a fantastic song to boot.

  • These comments are pretty fair entertainment.

  • now i know why witnesses of crimes are so hard to trust. if that many people think that's Valerie Bertinelli. Similar yes but clearly not her.

  • Bob is so cool. I love his songs. I remember watching California Jam 2 in the summer of 1978 and he's singing Ebony Eyes and lo and behold Stevie Nicks is on the satge with him and Stevie is smiling at Bob! I call him 'California Bob' 'koz the ladies really like him. Whoever said todays music is techno-crap is totally right. After the 70's it all turned to crap. I don't even listen to music anymore except Bob and some other 70's icons.

  • @sunshineshine77 You do realize you can relive that experience here on youtube. Seriously, if you dont know, that Cal Jam segment you described is on this site.

  • Don't care who she is, I'm free tonight.

  • Valerie was doing Eddie Van Hallen in those days
