  • Whenever Cat Stevens wrote songs about former girlfriends they always finished up dead in the song. Patti D'Arbanville in Lady D'Arbanville and Carly Simon in Sweet Scarlet. How Freudian.

  • As we drank down the wine to the last Sweet Scarlet

  • Une belle exploration de piano

  • So many very beautifull song wrtitted an composed by Cat Stevens and now tell my why isn't in the R ah R hall of fame? what reason?

  • More from Wikipedia about Carly Simon: "It was followed quickly by a second album, Anticipation. The title song from that album, written about a romance between Simon and Cat Stevens, was a significant hit, reaching #3 at Easy Listening radio and #13 on Billboard's Hot 100. The next single release - also reportedly written about Stevens, though perhaps about James Taylor, whom she had known since childhood - was "Legend In Your Own Time" ...

  • Cat Stevens purportedly wrote this about his romance with Carly Simon. I had a crush on him myself back then!

From Wiki: "After their brief liaison during 1970–1971 ended amicably, Stevens wrote his song "Sweet Scarlet" about Simon..."

  • he wrote this song for carly simon, after they broke up

  • Great writer and musician , God bless you .

  • My favourite CS song since I first heard it in 1974.

  • Because you have people who want to make money chosing so called artists who have a sound like what is so called popular running things and not knowing much about what makes an original artist who is musically and poetically talented into a sound c.d. or album. Also you have people who don't read much literature or expose themselves to enriching experiences in order to write the beautiful poetry like this song represents.

  • Why is there no music like this anymore? All this new sh!t , it has no melody or anything, no poetry

  • One of his best

  • Ahh, i didnt know id find this here on YouTube. My old beau from high school always said this song made him think of me. Now it also makes me think of him. <3

  • I totally agree with adnaninco's comment

  • "Once she came into my room, feathered hat an' all wearing a warm wool shawl wrapped around her shoulders ,,,two eyes like lights milky marble whites looking up at me ,,,looking for a way moon in an endless day ,,,all i knew was with her then ,no couldn't see the time ,,,as we drank down the wine to the last Sweet Scarlett,,," Cat stevens wrote this song for love interest Carly Simon

  • I agree, too much racial profiling these days.

  • Carly was a lucky girl, Cat Stevens, Mic Jagger and James Taylor. Ol girl did alright for herself

  • @dksdestiny starf**kers incorporated!

  • Yes I know he changed his name but he is also doing work under his old name as well. He was basically thrown out of the US for joining the church of Islam. So much for freedom of religion huh?

  • @dksdestiny its a shame he will probably never perform in America again

  • Who is with Cat in the first picture?

  • @kiki172732 carly simon

  • @kiki172732 Carely Simon

  • This music is dedicated to Carly Simon! She wrote and recorded at least two top 50 songs, "Legend in Your Own Time" and "Anticipation" about Cat Stevens.

  • I used to be so in love with him. He had political problems and dissapeared for awhile. I wish he'd do some new stuff. But this ones a classic

  • He HAS done some new stuff! I mean, listen to "Indian Ocean" from Yusuf Islam (that's him!) then hear the last two albums "An Other Cup" and "Roadsinger".

  • @dksdestiny He is doing new stuff, under a different name. His name now is Yusuf Islam.

  • It was also while visiting Carly, that he almost drowned of the coast of Malibu. Then came his search for you know what....

  • I've not seen this anywhere. I read that he was visiting a record producer in Malibu, not Carly Simon. They had broken up long before this incident.

  • It's funny he was so famous but he was always singing like he was getting his heart stomped on.

  • so beautiful

  • I love this too. Did you know Carly wrote "Legend in Your Own Time", and "Anticipation" for him? How nice.

  • It is about time Cat's version of this song maade it on YouTube. This is one of his songs he wrote about his relationship with Carly Simon. I have always wondered about the meaning of the line "She cut loose a life that she never, no never really wanted." Could it be that obvious?

  • Brilliant song!

  • This song is very underrated.
