  • @bongnbud: I don't know where YOU get your info from, but the Mark Donohue who won the 1972 Indy 500 and drove for Roger Penske, died from injuries suffered in a testing accident prior to the Austria GP. I don't know of any Indy-car fatalities at Ontario Motor Speedway, but I know that Joe Leonard suffered career-ending leg injuries in an accident there.

  • I Dont know where other people get their info from? But i can tell you this!!,..Mark Donohue R.I.P., the Indy car driver i saw, was killed in a horrible crash during qualifying at Ontario Motor speedway in So Cal. during the California 500 In the 70's. The track is long gone, but the memories will never fade.

  • The accident didn't kill Donohue. It was the brain tumor he was diagnosed with long before the accident. That's why Donohue came out of retirement. He knew he was on borrowed time.

  • Essas musicas desses videos antigos me da medo

  • A haunting video when you know the eventual outcome. How we all wish it could be different!

  • Jack Brabham was actually the only driver/builder to win a F1 championship in a car of his own design baring his name, perhaps bruce McLaren might have, but he died, just like Donohue here. Thing is though, theres been others asside from these guys to try, but on Jack did it. I am sure he was a brilliant driver and engineer, but I doubt he could combine those skills into a F1 championship as easy as people commenting here seem to think

  • would have been better in english

  • Both Mark Donohue & Natasha Richardson had similar head injury and both appear to be find until the next day the both and several headace and died!

  • @afannell Jack Brabham won the F1 world championship in a car of his own design baring his name, no one, not eeven Bruce McLaren managed that, McLaren is the only one to come close. Mark Donohue might have been a GOOD driver/engineer, but F1 is the bench mark, no matter what North Americans might argue, that he never won.

  • you should see the string of f1 champs that this guy beat in 4 out of the 5 races in the first ever int. race of champs!

  • it was 4 races, he won 3, and he only lost the one because he was having trouble with his throttle

  • sorry. he slipped into a coma . not a come.

  • Yeah, thsanks I do realise that, I'm not suggesting he choked on a banana.

  • you need to read the book " an unfair advantage " yes he looked ok after but got a huge headache and eventually slipped into a come and died from a brain bleed . he also was the first winner of the first "international race of champions". he was the best . plus a brilliant engineer .

  • the way he died was eerily similar to how Natasha Richardson died recently. Whe you've been in a wreck and feel any head pain at all, get checked out ASAP!

  • It's exactly the way he and Natasha Richardson died. It was miner head injury that went fatal!.

  • Seeing him dazed but clearly conscious here it's hard to believe he died.

  • if you consider multiple championships in can-am , trans- am , winning @ le mans , indy , nascar , and holding the worlds closed course record for a decade , not to mention a 3rd place in his first f 1 race un substantiated ...then you must not be an american. am i right? he never got to do a full f1 sched. or you would not be disagreeing.

  • sorry ... he took 4th @ le mans. but also several scca championships.

  • his son david did win @ le mans

  • as a matter of fact.. i just watched david donohue pass f1 champ juan pablo montoya for the lead with 40 minutes left in the rolex 24 hr @ daytona and is walking away with it. just as his father , mark , did 40 years ago.

  • yep. david donohue just won the rolex 24 @ daytona.

juan pab. montoyo gave a good fight though.

  • Yeah, I'm an American, but I won't say he's the best driver ever.

  • if you read what i wrote .. i was talking to the british dude who said m. d. didnt have any results to substantiate my statement.

  • Sorry.

  • mark donohue was the greatest race car driver EVER.

  • No results or clues to substantiate that but i can see where you are coming from. A great talent unfulfilled.

  • He's a good driver, but I doubt if he's the best.

  • he was a very consistent driver that made few mistakes and had great racecraft, along with that he was the best engineer/driver ever, always having his car setup exactly how he liked

  • I saw him race many times. Not "greatest racedriver ever," BUT CLEARLY the best racedriver-engineer ever. I believe if he and Penske had entered F1 when he was younger, with their combined talents they'd have done whatever it took as always and eventually he'd be winning.
