the guys who owned youtube were two MIT grads. They were in thier 20's. They sold the patent for youtube for 2 billion dollars to viacom. viacom was on the verge o being sued by every music video and movie artist in the world because it had all been downlowaded at that point. So viacom began employing people to either ban or remove music from unlicensed properties. Its sort of what happened to napster.
I hope it makes a comeback, and please no 'fly girls'(although good) but with strong dancers like those shown here, and with great choreography. I love the opening number to this clip:-)
some of these girls were hot 25 years ago, wonder how many held up there looks or after getting taken off the show if went into other things...like porn. lol...
The reason they changed the look of the set was because Paramount finally brought filming of the show "in-house" meaning they began filming the shows on the Paramount lot at Sunset & Gower.
i pesonally liked the new stage look during the 1984-1985 season.I like the space sci fi futristic look.plus they used the same stage look for years. time for achange.the outfits and props for songs where great and radiant.
Thanks for posting!!! It's was nice to see Nicole Romine with her red shoulder length hair before she cut it and dyed it blonde. The other dancers were great as well.
Darcel was on tour with My Fair Lady at the time. She may have also had a baby during that time as well. I know she already had a son during the earlier years and eventually had more kids. But during the first few months of the Rick Dees season she was touring with a Broadway show. She returned late spring of 1985. Thanks for sharing this post! I must admit that I didn't watch the show as much while Darcel was away. I wasn't a huge fan of the set change either.
An interesting note; Darcel was given credit as Principle Dancer before her departure and again after she returned. Pam (who obviously was given more camera time - as lead) was never credited as Principle Dancer. When I asked her what was up, her comment was a very politcally correct "There is no Principle Dancer."
Darcel frequently was the sole dancer for a song, or the sole female dancers accompanying one of both of the male dancers; Pam very rarely was featured by herself. Also, Darcel choerographed much of the dance routines along with Anita Mann, not to mention the speaking parts she had in the later seasons. Thanks for the videos!
Actually - Pam was featured much more in "Darcel-like" terms during Darcel's abscence. Given more speaking spots, dancing solos, etc. But as far as I know all dancers had "input" for choreography, as there was always an Asst. Choreographer on the show - and it was never any of the dancers. I think there were LEGAL reasons why they couldn't give Pam the Principle spot based on it being held for Darcel upon her return.
Whats the name of this sound in the video? Thanks in common.

The audio had to be deleted because of copyright infringement. It was either that or delete the whole video.

Is it my imagination or is youtube getting more and more lame?
It will be good when someone gets an alternative to it up and running.

I wanted to be a Solid Gold Dancer when I grew up! They canceled the show and I had to become a Latin , Ballroom & Disco dancer.
Watching these old videos I see where I got some of my style. I love these dancers still!

Who's the girl doing the somersault between 5:12 and 5:17? Impressive somersault, given the rapidity and the fact she's doing it wearing high heels.
