Ahh those were they day...I could name almost everyone in this video....Jim was the best he wasn't even tired and ran the whole race by himself on a dirt track....The Best
I was at the race with Eric Hulst. It's actually the 74 CIF Prelims, not the 72 CIF Championships at Mt. Sac (got that from the guy who posted the original footage ... OldSchooler79. He says he mislabeled the post.) But who cares! To say Hulst was terrific is an understatement.
I was also at the 75 LA Times Mile (Pre, Bayi, Walker) right at the finish line. Bayi won that race, but it was tight from start to finish. Bayi/Walker, great rivalry! Pre was great, but the race was too short.
Eric Hulst had a short running career at University of Irvine, but injuries got the best of him. He died of Brain Cancer in 1992 at age 34. There were a ton of great So Cal HS distance runners in the 1970's, but my guess is that you're thinking of either Ralph Serna or Thom Hunt. And you're right about Lompoc ... they put out some great teams.
It is weird to think of Pre finishing last in a race, as he did in that Times mile. But that was definitely not his best distance, and he was running against the greatest milers of the era.
Nice video.....nice sound.....nice all around !

Great memories. Great soundtrack. If only it were several minutes longer. :)

It doesn't have a name. It was composed by John Elias for the Jordan Jumpman XX1 ad.
