  • LMAO MAMAMAMAMMA

  • Hey Mon, I absolutely LOVE your vids! Thanks so much for posting Chinese lessons on youtube! I would like to request a new video of you and your crew. I am an irish/american girl working as a cook in an "asain restaurant" where everyone but me speaks chineese. It would be totally sweet if I knew some phrases like, "what meat? Chicken, beef, shrimp or pork?" And of course "please, thank you" etc. Also I saw the vid about numbers 1-10, and we go up to the thousands some days! Your the best! :-)

  • thank you so much for telling me that the beijing accent is the one with the optional 'r' sounds!!! now i can impress my chinese teacher ^_^

  • um. there over 50 different dialects :]

5 or 6 blanket dialect "families" and really we cant understand each other

  • @crunkkitkat I'm not sure what I said in the video, but there's 7 different "languages" and... yeah, a bunch of different dialects. The languages can't understand each other and the dialects can. What did I say?

  • You are really a good teacher!

    我自己有时候都不知道怎么教老外中文。

btw, you can add 1 more word in your ma-sentence, that wil be

    媽媽罵馬嗎? ma1 ma5 ma4 ma3 ma5?

    you can answer this : ummmm, ma1 ma5 ma4 ma3

    hahahah.........

but anyhow, the combination is kindda weird 4 me. isnt it traditional characters should combine with zhuyin?

  • I think Swedish is the hardest...

  • definitely down to learn chinese.

  • Awesome. I'm really excited about this one. I'll finally be in a position to put up regular lessons. I'm going to try my hardest to do things in a fashion so people can learn it remotely. I'll do live stuff from time to time to answer questions.

  • looking forward to this :)

  • O.o never in my (relatively short) life have i known that there was a no tone! lol! its like my discovery of the day. tis pretty interesting to see how mandarin is taught as a foreign language ^^

  • spanish..well im hispanic and grew up speaking both languages and still am..im just 15 yrs old

  • Nice. I went to a Spanish immersion school back in the day. I used to be fluent. I plan on bringing it back soon...

  • yeah keep doing it! i wanna be trilingual!

  • What's the second language?

  • even though I'm lazy .. it's true there is no such thing as close enough.. only correct or wrong :)

  • Evening Miltownkid,

I've stumbled across your videos whilst fishing about the depths of Youtube. It's been good, charting your time in Taiwan and so forth.

Out of everything I think this video lesson is a step in the right direction and proving very interesting indeed. I have a friend up in Manchester(UK) who attempted evening classes and gave up all too quickly, stating that the tonal ranges add too high a level of complexity.

I have every confidence in your making it simple and fun.

    Craig

  • Thanks Craig! That's exactly what I plan on doing. My goal is to show everyone the tricks to learning the language so when they make a serious attempt (at a school, self study or whatnot) they will be better prepared for SUCCESS!

  • Chuckle.... I should post a video response in Chinese if I could ever get the video to play that is.. lol so I could know what I was responding to ;)

    peaz

  • This was great man! Id watch this always!

  • i wish u could teach me korean..

  • thats preety cool. i would like to learn other languages than english...wen i was in year 7 we learnt Indonesian. its was on. i love the way how they write names and tattoos in chinese!

  • see man was i right or was i right... i told you people will dig the chinese, but you should also do the economics that shit would be tight too

  • Good call. :)

  • That was awesome, i learned a lot more from THAT than i even do in school

  • That's GREAT to here. I plan on teaching you guys HOW to learn Mandarin, as opposed to making a bunch of lessons on different topics. After you learn the basics you will be able to teach yourselves.

  • well what can i say... im a pretty bug deal lol

  • shit i meant to write I'm a pretty big deal not bug deal lol

  • Wikipedia is the shit, I wanna see more! Good work, peace from Canada.

  • Okay, First off, Thanks for the Lessons miltownkid =D This might actually help since I stopped going to mandarin school like... 2 summers ago lol! (I was first grade FTW!, But I speak Canto =X)

Anyway, @everyone who says "NINJAS ARE JAPANESE STFU MTK!!!" I just have to say... LOL, n00bs. Who said you CANT be a Chinese Ninja? Not like there aren't white people who do KungFu now right?

  • Holy MaA/fuckershit, chinese='s hard..?$?

Keep it comen tho maby ignorant folk like myself will learn somethen.. 5/5

  • It's actually pretty easy. You'll see. :)

  • 謝謝你!! i love it MTK. i'm actually learning Chinese now and your lessons will help tremendously. Seems my biggest problem is saying "人"...i never say it right haha. Keep em coming 5/5

  • ma ma MA ma. :)

ive got this pronunciation thing down.

  • it nice, but i suck at my second language in skool. lol.

  • What language is that?

  • fuckin latin

  • Whoah, no wonder... :) Well, Latin is pretty cool, but it might take you see time to see the coolness. Although it's useless as a spoken language, if memory serves me correctly it's the foundation of many languages so your etymology skillz will be off the hook.

  • yeh like all languages are derived from latin.

  • LOL MAH!

i wanna be a chinese NINJA!

    but ninjas are japanese fool!

  • WHAT UP MILTOWNKID! i think my history teacher said their are more than 40 languages. Mandarin is the most common.

  • I meant within in the Chinese umbrella. I looked on Wikipedia, they said 6-12 there.

  • keep 'em coming!

  • 非常good.Keep 它!

  • thanks man you should keep rocking the lessons man

  • ma mamaamam haha cool shit keep it up[!!!

am gonna sound all badass sayin 'do u know madrin" ahaha yeaa.

    Arigato MTK

  • This is just awesome, you speak very good chineese :D

  • Thx

Actually you're good for my english miltownkid, and now i learn Chinese with you

    5* for you miltownkid

NEXT TIME A FRENCH LESSON LOL

  • Sweet video dude. It's kinda funny how something like four "ma's" can equal a whole sentence if pronounced right. That was cool.

  • sweet:] :] keep em coming

  • i dig it!! :)

  • Great man, keep em coming.

  • 媽媽罵馬!

Good intro. One trick for pronunciation is that 3rd tone words are usually said a bit slower than other tones and fourth tone is a bit quicker.

Have you thought about your lessons following along a particular textbook? I use the Practical Audio Visual Chinese which (as the title implies) already has videos but they seem to have been produced in the 80s and are to laugh. Also hope you keep using Traditional Chinese characters.

  • Oh by the way, wenlin says the whole phrase is "媽媽罵馬嗎?"

  • Oh yeah! That would have been even better. :P

  • Yeah, I'm going to loosely follow one of the textbooks from school. But I think I'm going to focus more on teaching HOW to learn, instead of lessons (if that makes sense.)

  • Which textbook?

  • Integrated Chinese is the name I think.

  • chinese languange Ninja?!

    ninja speak japanese!

  • Frome Wikipedia: Although their exact origins are still UNKNOWN, with some historians speculating about some CHINESE origin or influence, it is known that they appeared in 14th century feudal Japan, and remained active from the Kamakura to the Edo period.

Mandarin the language of O.G. NINJAs! ;)

  • cool

oh i just claimed that' Ninja has nothing to do with Chinese' on Wikipedia.

  • Sweet, Miltown WILL teach us mandarin

  • Great video! hope you can make some more.

  • Great video MTK. Hope you can make another one.

  • Oh, another one is definitely coming.

  • Great video mtk. I'll look forward to the next one!

  • Is this why Chinese people usually sound angry? That last MA! sounded like you were angry but that word actually means horse?

  • Yeah, that last one in the sentence ma1ma ma4 ma3. Ma3 (third tone) means horse. None are coming to mind, but another funny thing about Chinese is that there are characters with the same sound, but they're mean different things.

That's OK though, most words are 2 or more character long combinations (like Ma1ma.)

  • cool

  • Good stuff. Keep this series going. Always looking to get educated in something new.

  • nice! btw where's superman?

  • It was like 1 in the morning. :) He was sleeping for work.

  • Nice do it**

  • Nice doing it MTK!! Im very interested

  • Hellz yeah I'm doing it! ;)

  • you know what you need to do?

go to the MLG lan game for halo3 im going its going to br fun fun fun

  • Digg it... man it would be cool to learn, Master pronunciation! lol

  • lol. Glad that part got through to you. I met SO many people in Taiwan that did NOT master pronunciation and their Chinese sounded ASS. Think about it this way, when speaking Chinese if you MASTER grammar and have ASS pronunciation people will have a lot of trouble understanding you (this isn't so true with English and other none tonal languages.)

  • LOL i know im a lil late but i had no clue that u had replied to this... in fact i didnt even kno u could check if u got comments replied to or not.. well figured it out now but i have yet to see other Mandarin lessons or have i missed some? hmm

  • Nope, you haven't missed anything. I'm going to be starting "proper" lessons in February. I think I might start a new channel for them so they don't get lost in the mix. I'm also going to hook it up so they can be downloaded on iTunes and all that sort of jazz. They're coming soon... :)

  • good stuff man. my girlfriend is actually taiwanese and she totally loves your vids hahahh. i always show her em. and if there's one thing that i learned from her; niggaaaaa = ummm. bwuahahahhaha, it never gets old. i'll be looking forward to more vids :D

  • lol, that shit's my favorite too! I want to make a T-Shirt that says Neiga Please! (but with Characters, not pinyin. I can't seem to type Characters right now for some reason :P )

  • Oops... That should be Neige

  • how do i say. "I would like the orange chicken with egg role" i so want to order chinese in mandarin. 5 star. lets play some BOX OF THE X!

  • lmao weird video :D would like to see more. lol
