Terry Gillian is American Born, and has lived in England for over 30 years already.
This is one of his best films. Although I can't seem to pick from his filmography, which is all overwhelmingly hilarious and revealing at the same time.
Excellent comment, in fact this is an under-valued movie. The fantasy it´s used just a tool to portrait a deeper sight of society. Rationalism and hipocresy v/s dreams and honor. By the way, I'm not a yank or English, just from Chile
@KrisScofield This states that it's supposed to be a "review". But that involves your giving an opinion of the film in general, not a running commentary of scenes and story. You don't tell us whether you found the film amusing, insightful, splendid, overblown, exaggerated, well lit, cinematically glorious or stupendously dull. It's just a series of clips without any insight from you.
this guy dosnt even get what the film means in the first place stating that fantasy can be real and that the most of the ordinary can perform extraordinary feats no matter what the nature is
i dont think that any yanks would get the film considering it has an english director, and yanks' social complexity is more basic, like their humour, so you wouldn't understand the vague british humour in it, and you yanks would have probably thought the world was actually like that in the late 1700s.:-) im not a yank hater by the way, anyone who isn't in the commonwealth probably won't understand anlgosaxon humour.
@sauldavidwilliams Granted you wrote this comment two years ago but I must say that as a yank I loved the humor in this film both as a kid and still do as an adult. To that end, many of my favorite films have had English humor. I like our comedy too but not all American humor is all that funny. As for Munchausen, of course it was never exactly like this in the actual 1700's but it's whimsicality is intoxicating: "We can't attack today, sir. It's Wednesday." Also, the Gilliam was American.
In bringing up social commentary, wouldn't it be good to mention the execution of Sting, the man who demoralises his comrades by being such an excellent soldier?

And the only member of Monty Python from America, though now he is a British citizen.

@KahnBB6 I think he was kidding, but there wasnt any irony or anything in his statement so its not a good joke

the humour is that you sound like a pretentious prick? I dunno, I'm in the commonwealth but I'm not a dick about it.
