  • YES.

  • these guys are scrubs!

  • LSD

  • If i set the keyboard solo as my ringtone, I won't answer any calls forever.

  • How can I play the piano in this way??

  • This is as good as Floyd playing that song

  • WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE SPECIALLY WHEN HE DOING THE HARD-FREAKIN SOLO KEYBOARD!!! WOW !!! THATS NOT THE SAME SOUNDS!!! PINK FLOYD IS MY FAVORITE BAND .THEY STILL IMMORTAL .AFTER GILMOUR AND WATERS, OTHERS PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE BAND!! I THINK IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME ;(

  • Rudess and Wright my favorite keyboard players!!

  • the drummer is a freakin machine

  • Nice, very nice indeed

  • these guys were on acid

  • Crimson red....

  • 34 people didn't get the colour they like...

  • Live performance, cover version - basically I came here with very low expectations - but I'm impressed!

  • jordan is great

  • I love how Portnoy can play a hundred beats in a minute but he still plays this awesome drum grooves. And Petrucci really does it well too.

  • the opinions vary, but this version is superior to the original.

  • @myrtic1 no way. Listen to one of the early 70's live versions of this song by Pink Floyd. This one is good, but doesn't come near to creating the atmosphere of the original.

  • god dream theater sucks!

  • @Dwaynethesock You suck

  • @Dwaynethesock

LaBrie isn't singing, so how DT can suck?

  • This might just be better than the original...

  • ese petrucci en la guitarra es la riata xD.. el mejor cover que he escuchado de esta rola O_O!!

  • Amazing Keyboard solo..I think he took it to a better level than Petrucci did.. although Petrucci is still phenomenal is his own right..

  • Not bad.

  • I like this version

    But Floyd still owns :)

  • I can´t believe that video has only 175.000 visits...

  • @masii22 i know why...people just dont care for tribute bands...Back in the early 70"s you had bands just like these on every corner bar in Toronto trying to do Pink Floyd...After a while it was getting noticeable so i have asked musicians.. why pink floyd.. and theyd say its easy to play.

  • @DWcriticism Firstly i must apologize for my urge to dip my nose into things and try to explain them from my point of view. Essentially Pink Floyd is realtively easy to play, their arrangements are often quite simple and understandable even though i've met many people classifying them as "psycedelic rock" wich is a psycedelic genre. But there is a huge difference between abiliti to play it and making music out of it and that is were many people fail. Dream Theater manages though

  • @jalakere The perfect example of that, to me, is, of course, Gilmour.

He is no virtuosso, and what he plays is relatively easy to copy, but he is such a master in expression techniques that is damn difficult to mimic what he does.

What I love of DT, though, is as simple as this: They just sound great. Their music is, quite simply, very pleasant to the ears.

I mean, people say that they are robotic, soulless, etc.. Well, I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. I sure enjoy the hell out of DT's albums

  • Respond to this video... sorry i dont like truibute band..had to put up with to many in the 70's

  • @DWcriticism | DT is not a tribute band. they juste made a tribute for dark side of the moon after what.... twenty years of awesome creations and shows all arround the world.

  • the keyboard guy deserve to die, Wright is the best

  • @LeViotto wright is dead.

  • WONDERFUL!!!!

  • that organ is very annoying, i wish it sounded like floyds, but still this is a very good cover.

  • Backwards piano solo owned face.

  • so bad taste the round around the keyboard...

You're playing Pink Floyd, guys, take care. Anyway, a personal good rendition.

  • @nocterbalbulus all on the contrary man. In DSOTM, which is a concept album about madness, this moment corresponds to the falling into madness, which is, in Waters' thought, real happiness and freedom, fulfillment. The image of diffraction of light through the prism is a metaphor of that, and the title confirms what its position tells, that we are on the very passage "on the dark side". So Rudess' trick is a very clever emphasis of that, of bursting into madness, and passing on the other side.

  • @cassino761 Very interesting words - of course DSOTM is not ONLY about madness...Anyway maybe Dream Theatre thought something like that as they played it...Who knows?

  • i though this song was like impossible to play live well. even pink floyd would do a poor job. but dreamtheater proved me wrong.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe pink floyd have played it great every time.. what are you talking about LOL?

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe

The most ridiculous and tendentious comment I've ever seen on youtube ... No one can make the sound of David Gilmour, or even copy it, better it's impossible... Ask John Petrucci, he will agree with me.

  • @renatobatistatj the point of a guitarist is not to copy another guitarist, but to have your own unique style. JUST ASK GILMOUR! :D. besides this comment was made 6 months ago. i actualy began to enjoy the webley live version from pink floyd. but, this is still my favorite version, because it just has a brighter sound and its really colorful and cheerful.

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe - You may not have understood what I meant ... or I have expressed myself badly. I did not say that John Petrucci was trying to copy David Gilmour, or their version is bad, but what I meant is: you can not do better than Pink Floyd. You can do a good version but not better. No one has the feeling that PF has. I say this as a fan of Pink Floyd, and I think John Petrucci is too, and, because of that -perhaps - he will agree with me...

  • @THeBEEtleNAMEdGEORGe - Maybe you agree with me that, in most cases, people judge the songs by the musician's technique, but technique does not always mean feeling, and this is the great advantage of Pink Floyd ... On the other hand, I often see a heavy metal band be applauded exclusively because they are extremely fast on guitar, bass, keyboard ... but apart from that, there's nothing left. I like heavy metal, but I prefer something meaningful. It is clear that this is only my opinion...

  • @renatobatistatj well, first of all i would like to point out the fact that the cover has no real element of heavy metal, and that you seem judge the band by the fact that they usually play heavy metal. people judge music based on technique? what have you been smoking? todays most popular songs are the easiest to play. but, anyway pink floyd is by far my favorite band, but cmon they arent divine or anything and 1 day i believe they might be overcomed.

  • ok, change the key to Eb, then play the keyboard backwards.

  • Great cover, they keyboard intro was two long though

  • @rickheyes0 no way man, thats the best part. in both this cover and the original version I absolutely LOVE the keys, they allow me to float through my perception of the world.

  • @rickheyes0

To, too, and two are different words. :) Enjoy the music.

  • @aflory2000 I realise this haha, just a typo

  • I love Pink Floyd

  • If you are bored (or just high), please check out my cover version of this song; I tried to give the video a psychedelic twist. I hope my alien friends in outer space will enjoy it.

  • OMFG, Rudess solo makes me fly to another dimenssion...

  • amazing cover. can somebody tell me where the backing guitar is coming from

  • the synth solo is good but gets a lil too shreddy for me and the guitar tone is way too cock rocky for me.

  • Comment removed

  • wow i am in love with the intro of petrucci's solo its way better than gilmour's one

  • I need to watch this whole show really, really fucking high

  • Bloody Brilliant .....

  • I absolutely loved the keyboard, but absolutely hated the guitar

  • @rockerhippi guitar was fucking epic same with keyboard are u insane?

  • @rockerhippi what did you not like about the guitar?

  • @rockerhippi Respect to John Petrucci, the best guitarist ever

  • too bad their cover sound as bad as a videogame background music... it's cold, square and charmless, totally kills the magic.

  • Keyboard stage moves are the worst

  • A MAZE ING.......You have rocked my evening...thanks ya'll. I will definitely be searching out more of your preformances.....

  • my only criticisms are that the guitarist used too much distortion and played a little more "shredding" style than Gilmour would have done.. but other than that, i have no problem with this cover

  • wright could have overdone it too, but for some reason he never did ))

  • wow, surprisingly outstanding cover.

  • one word: Epic.

  • Jordan Rudess in Keith Emerson wannabe style!

  • now, i like what jordan and john did with this. i find the original a little slow and dated. if you do covers you should add a little of any colour you like. good jod dream squad

  • Jordan es un genio!!

  • WTF 0:55 - 1:50?? Jordan is a genius

  • Prolly the best Floyd Song for 'places it takes you'...great band...great cover..though I can see why some think the entire point being the 'colors' has some what been lost here....Rudess has to be best exponent of the keyboard....ever...petrucci is great..am prolly one of the biggest FLoyd and DT fans out there...ppl shud realise that this is a cover..and not in anyway trying to mimic FLoyd...jus enjoy this song for wat its worth...which is absolute genius on DT's part...hail DT..Hail FLoyd

  • Nice to see Pink Floyd lives on :)

  • meh...

  • simplemente fabuloso

  • floydtards are so annoying... just like all tards...

  • dream theatre are great instrumentists. pink floyd themselves couldnt have done a greater version , a great homage to the monsters of rock.

  • petrucci killed gilmour's guitars. Ridiculous!

  • Amazing cover and I don't usually accept Pink Floyd covers. Since Richard Wright I didn't hear a good keyboardist playing so fine :) Congratulations Dream Theater and long live the Floyd

  • sounds like genesis

  • @lawnelson ....and those... its good or bad?

  • @gatolocoverga152 Early Genesis were great. Phil Collins became too pop for me, and Peter Gabriel turned into something different, not exactly my cup of tea.

  • @lawnelson Their early work was a bit too... new wave for my taste. But when SPORTS came out in '83, they really came into their own... commercially and artistically.

Sorry, your comment made me want to quote American Psycho.

  • they missed the point of this song entirely. how can i groove and zone out if they keep overplaying everything. it'd have been fine if they had divided the number of notes they played by four and introduced some of their own ideas.

  • bravo Jordan, ma così poteva suonare solo Keith Emerson.

  • awesome cover ...

  • keyboards have the worst stage moves :P

  • I have to say... What i hear here is the best band of all times covered by the best band of all times to an amazing result.

I always thought that "any colour you like" is one of the best musical ideas ever, and this version just corroborates it even more.

  • @GaudyGabriev

best band of all time has always been and will be the pink floyd.

little band of melodic metal has in droves.

I'm a fan of pink floyd and do not like seeing the biggest and best band in the world being played by metalheads.

  • @cmtesioux Refering to Dream Theater as just "little band of melodic metal" or "metalheads" is ignorant.

There are so many sides in DT's music that your little mind wouldn't understand.

  • @GaudyGabriev If you really think so im sure you would have like to have bar hopped in the early 70's in Toronto were every corner bar had a band like these guys doing the very same songs...All they are buddy is a tribute band and back in the 70's they came a dime a dozen

  • So fucking incredible!

  • Jordan Rudess = GOD

  • Jordan is a fucking deity. I just love it.

  • its like the soundrack of an astonaut who have losed his connection with the ship, ands travels without way into the cosmos playing an endless epic solo ..

  • Dream Theater is awesome, they pull off these Pink Floyd songs surprisingly well.

  • Nice version and great job, but imho.....Petrucci sound is something really, really horrible.....

  • I like Petrucci's version.. he's good

    But Gilmour's still the best

  • @gokusito3 the best of the best!!

  • Petrucci's cover is amazing and one of the finest guitar recordings i've listened to, but it's also the only song of his or Dream Theatre's that i can really stand except maybe the last minute of The Dark Eternal Night.

Gilmour is definitely one of the top two guitarists of all time and obviously pink floyd = amazeballs

  • @gokusito3 yeah, but rudess is better than wright in all aspects :)

  • @shadzudh LMFAO thats why d.t. is doing a COVER of PINK FLOYD..

  • @smokingmother Im not following you. did I say they made that song or..? what did u respond to?

  • Nice but ORIGINAL RULES

Bald man loves Jon Lord, this is no doubt)

  • Still love the original more.Nice try though, dream theater.

  • Great Cover Version of Any Colour You Like!

  • does anyone know what kind of synthesizer he has?

  • its funny, you guys complai that petrucci sucks here, lemme see you play that, let alone do it live infront of thosands of people. plus its not like he can just change all of his settings right there on the spot to exact gilmour sound.

take the music for wat it is.

  • this is a great cover, but I don't think Petrucci is as versatile as Rudess, or the rest of them, for that matter

  • @youraisemyrent You got guts posting that among a bunch of rabid Dream Theater fans including myself... but you're absolutely right. Petrucci used to be extremely diverse, but now it seems like all he cares about is shredding.

  • Almost all. There are some exceptions, and I should acknowledge that...

  • Complete bunk!!! This shit blows

  • Synth is simply epic while guitar didn't fit. Not John's type. But Jordan is a fucking wizard. He can play anything.

  • this guitar sound is really hateful

  • Petrucci doesn't have that Gilmour touch nether that epic Stratocaster sound

  • I thought the standout best part of the original was that it just flowed. Nobody did anything especially flashy, they just followed this giant groove. The synth guy would just layer his stuff over the sound and to me that was the beautiful part. Playing fast or flashy overtakes the groove, which to me makes this cover pretty mediocre.

  • Rudess is a motherfucking wizard!

  • I just had a synthgasm

  • the simplies notes that are coming from him bluesy soul...

  • Real Sweet, thank you so much for putting this up, I would have never seen it otherwise. Thanks Again!

    I love you!

    ~~

    Luna

  • All i can say iz keyboardist @ 1:30... woooooow sweeeeeeet :)

  • Everyone has to do him job....petrucci...this is not your stuff...absolutely!!!!!There isn't any note that express the feel og that "colour"...

  • @resole83 And which note(s) did Gilmour do?

  • @resole83 good point... also note that the modern sound takes out a lot from this solo (from Gilmore`s style), however Petrucci payed his own tribut, i would say...

  • bass guitar dude is keeping the pink floyd groooove in the song , that's really awesome !!! 8D

  • even best cover than from the australian pink floyd effort,

what a perfection from DT *_*

  • nobody in the public realizes that this is a super song by pink floyd xD xD what a pitty...

    amazing rudess ;)

  • @1981rael actually everyone that attended new it was a tribute to pink floyd concert.. whole darkside of the moon album plus some other songs..!!

  • normally not a fan of Dream Theater, but I actually enjoyed this cover... and this is probably my favorite Floyd song.

  • Our band did a cover on this, I was hoping to get some opinions on it from Floyd fans. Check it out on our page. =) watch?v=2l3uTARZ0i4

  • best

  • @Bobaganewsh hmm k

  • to anyone who thinks petrucci doesnt have feeling, listen to lost without you from his solo album

  • keep in mind that this is a tribute to pink floyd, one of their inspirations.

  • Love Rudess's keyboard work here, adds his own style whilst maintaining the original feel of the track.

  • Heh Petrucci doesn't have half of the feel of Gilmour...

  • @drstrangeluv1680 just because he doesn't jump around and make funny faces doesn't mean he has any less feel than gilmour...

  • I'm a Pink Floyd fan, I love covers, but also can be "critical" of certain covers....

However, these guys do an AMAZING job on every Floyd song they do, in my humble opinion!

  • Dream Theater once again does an awesome job!!!

  • Why are people hating on this cover..? From the first time I heard this, I thought it was an incredible interpretation of the song. Petrucci and Rudess did an amazing job with their solos.

  • Perfeito... Muito bom... essa música é incrivel, sem usar palavras ela fala no fundo da alma.

  • lsd for ears

  • I was lucky enough to be there, both nights in London. 2x 3hour sets of good music!

  • este tema me hace flotar

como que se detiene el tiempo

    ademas la ejecucion esta impecable

lleno de escencia y exelente sonido

  • Pfuj!

  • Lmao the original keyboard and guitar solos had wayyyy less notes than this, yet they sound 10x better and are perfect for the song. These guys are showboats....

  • This keyboardist is like Dave Mustaine on the fretboard. Its not about quality or sound, its about jamming as many notes as you can per second.

  • I liked it how Dream Theater covered this song in their own style, but still managed to keep the spirit of pink floyd in tact. And I'm loving Jordan Rudess keyboard solo here. Easily among his best

  • they play it how they feel it ...this is the way dream DT feels any colour u like . maybe some els feels it dif .

  • Damn, nice of both Rudess and Petrucci.

Sometimes iI miss a bit of feeling though, but nice!

  • One of my favorite songs used to listen to it on my way home from school

  • who are you guys to say who has soul or not

  • why is everyone arguing when they should be listening to a shithot song man, grow up, shut up, and enjoy the tuuuunes man!! xD

  • /Facepalm

  • Benj71 you are a stupid piece of shit.

  • @ Benj71: Dude, the thing you said definitely proves that YOU have no soul...

  • dream theater is canadian

plus its not the worst cover

  • @happyface they're actually american which is too bad really, they hardly ever come to canada for shows.

  • @happyface4444 Their lead singer is Canadian, that's all. (And quite honestly, I was never much of a LaBrie fan.)

  • awesome

  • *-*

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOSSAAAAAAAAAAAAA :D

    pia, os cara arrebentamm :D

    Muito bom, SHOW De bola...

    Maravilhoso! :D

  • Normally I'm not a fan of bands covering Floyd songs, but I actually think Dream Theatre did a great job of bringing thise song forward in a more modern version. I love how the bassist kept the original bass line, totally keeps that Floyd feeling to it!

  • i got to agree with you one 100%

  • @PinktheFloyd

Yeah, this song is all about the bass. I actually liked the synth better than the guitar in this cover.

  • @PinktheFloyd You'll find John Myung doesn't like to change things up much xD

  • if your after a very similar sound with a bit of programing and tweaking you can get a minimoog model D and to a lesser extent the voyager to sound pretty passable , the difference is the album version was done on a VCS3 EMS synth with a cricklewood controller which is a completely different synth with a very different filter thus giving it a more characteristic sound , if youve got a minimoog tho give it a go you shuld get a sound that will satisfy your need enough to play it.
