I'm pretty sure they wrote the game on a mainframe or an IBM compat, not on an Elektronika. They wouldn't have been messing around with Elektronikas in 1985.
I have the Elektronika version. It's not very good.
damnit, i wish there were more videogame documentaries produced like this. this one was made so well that any other one ill watch from now on will pale in comparison.
@the0th that makes simcity, utopia, or caesar russian games...at least according to your flawed generalization. i could also say that stacking up unrelated geometrical blocks has nothing to do with construction. in fact, tetris is about destruction. if you try to build the tower of babel then you won't live past level 0. you have to destroy what you have created to make it to the end.
il2 sturmovik, death to spies and blitzkrieg are russian games also. where's the construction in those games?
i love tetris i have it downloaded onto my phone. i play it alot. the guy that invented tetris alexey pajitnov doesn't seem like he is an asshole, he seems like a nice guy!!!
The first opportunity to play Tetris on a game boy, made me what I am today. I would probably never become interested in games, It made me the crack and nerd I am today.
interesting idea, but the sims are a simulation game ;) building is only part of the overall gameplay while tetris solely relies on it.
let's go even further :P tetris is not a game about building, but destroying. if you build too high, you lose, while sim-games are the exact opposite. so by that logic, tetris is more comparable to rampage than anything else. ;)
@GameDocumentaries or building up really high with a gap for a "tetris", kinda the same with building up the perfect city in simcity then releasing hell on it XD
This is a really fantastic documentary. I've watched it multiple times and I'm always amazed how they turn such a fairly dull-sounding saga on paper onto something really entertaining. I still watch it on my iPod. Kudos for putting it on, good sir.
you're very welcome :) you took the words right out of my mouth. before i watched it for the first time, i would have never thought that a documentary about such a simple game could be so entertaining
@GameDocumentaries I'm glad that you're educated and not like the many other arrogant youtubers. I find it interesting how they turned a game that i thought simple and dull into something that is completely the opposite. Thanks a great deal for the upload.
Why do you show Russia, though there are living only grandmother and mustached men?

Watched this back in 2006, fascinating documentary about the birth and evolution of Tetris. The background music keeps you enticed throughout.

Every cell phone and computer I have ever owned had to have some sort of version of tetris on it. I live to destroy full lines of blocks.

Since Tetris is a builder game, you could say that present builder games like the Sims are modern versions of Tetris.

Wow, to me this unravels Tetris completely, it's simply this existing puzzle game being digitalized....with time limits and scores and such.
