Al Franken on Book Tour, January 1996

I guess it was 1995/1996 and Al was in San Francisco at Stacey's Books on Market St.. I was walking back to the office from my lunch break and saw the double doors open and people packed in and onto the sidewalk. I had to see what was going on. I don't know if I'd ever seen Al on tv. I do know that I had not heard of the book before. But, I tell you, those were some of the very best 10-minutes that I've ever had, listening to him read from this book. Funny as heck.

Really, Rush should thank Al Franken. Unfortunately he probably added years to Rush's life, as after this book came out Rush lost a lot of weight. Apparently Rush agreed that he was at least big and fat as Al pointed out in the title to his excellent book.

People forget that the "Big Fat Idiot" title was mocking Rush in the 90s where Rush would call Chelsae Clinton the White House dog and Hillary Clinton a "pontiac hood ornament" while posing as a serious thinker. Thus the cover of Franken's book has him shown in the most pompous poses while making juvenile insults.
