once again: very cool! As always, I try to find workout exercises without the need of a drumset, so I tried to do your pedal tecnique with feet only, just standing, not even sitting on a chair.. wow..seems like I learned to stepdance in a minute!! I can now work on my lousy fitness on the spot in my apartment or bureau, wherever, as a side effect improve e bassdrum chops...really cool. thanx again
I´ve been researching this issue for while now. This is IMO the best vid around that clearly visualizes how it is done, rather than those "professional" bla bla show off vids. It even works with sound muted e.g. for students who do not speak english. Demonstrating the pedal technique barefooten: just like Xrays looking through the sneakers and exactly show the movement of the foot = genious in terms of teaching. A must for all drum teachers! Dude, you are not cool, you are icecold! Great Job!
No need to justifiable the suitcase just because of some douche bag´g s comment...I LOVE the suitcase..After many moons, sometimes I meet old fellow music veterans, they always remind me: "remember the days we practised unplugged in your flat cause we had no rehearsal room, you was one hell of a crazy drummer to use a suitcase as a bassdrum... but we never forget the goosepickles we had playing together". Music is NOT about gear.
man that is great stuff. ive been working on the feet though my hands are good but my feet are slow because ive only been a playing a full set for a year so my feet suck. but thanks and yes you shit on jarred falk.
thank you very much. just remember, speed isn't everything.. sometimes you just gotta lay back. but no matter what you do .. DON'T GIVE UP. drums are life
ill be practicing that until i got it ! not easy as it looks , your movements are all fluid. when i m getting fluid in the ankles they just loose sense of reality for now, but! ill practice until ill be able to master it like you! thanks!
Shadowlorde Great Thanks to you!! I've just bought drums with double pedal and put them in my room (neighbours soon will kill me :)) I play sreiously for about three months and i hand no any teacher, so I had lots of questions, but with you videos i got answers on them :D
no problem. best thing is that it's free. no charging $30 for "secret techniques" on a video of the same picture and audio quality like other ppl (cough cough) joe strosnick, jared falk cough cough do
dirty double stops, when ever you go to play with both hands, on the 3/4 excersize, its all flams..
nice bass thing(i just forgot that word) but, wouldnt that be quiet, the beater isnt that far from the head.. good practice pad, lol. always drum on books.. helps build chops...
i get a louder stroke if my index fingers aren't on the stick. its called middle finger fulcrum and dave weckl and steve smith both talk about it in their dvds. it works for me.
Hey man, Really Appreciate your vid! :D thanks for the tips =] btw, Nice dog! :) but yeah, just letting you know i appreciate Your help! :D btw, What do you use as your 'kick/bass drum' for practice? a suitcase? with what inside? :)
its actually a footrest for a vouch or something .. got it from my grandmother's house. lol. its a wooden thing with a bit of padding and some fabric over it. then i taped some quarters to where the beater hits so you could hear it.
i also have hansen futz pedals .. but they wouldn't help people see anything on here. so i didn't use them
First of all respect, for this really nice, informative video.
I was only asking myself, if you are using the moellertechnique also when you're playing on the kit, or if you only use it for some small accents in your solo?
i use a lot of moeller also. it's a very important thing to learn. i don't have any vids on moeller because so many other ppl did it already and i havn't had time.. but i might make one anyway eventually
im mainly guitar and (attempted) singing, but find bass, and other instruments like the uke and mando and other things that make sound hard to resist. I want to sort a small kit for recording (and the more different it sounds then the better really).
i need help with my new hi hat- i only have a snare and hi hats at mo- any sugestions for a mini kick drum; like, i heard you could flip sideways a floor tom, is that bollocks or can you do that?
You can with some, but the clamps on the bassdrum pedals either have to be really short, or you need a rather beafy rim on your floortom. You making your own practice kit?
Great vids by the way, shadow. Lots of new techniques svirving around these days :)
thanks. easy.. yes you can .. but it's kinda hard .. get creative though .. you can make a cradle out of a box or some wood, pvc pipe... make the drum rest high enough so the beater hits about center .. and you'll need a piece of wood or metal to simulate the bass drum hoop @ the bottom to clamp the pedal on to. just use your imagination .. you'll figure something out
i hope your giving lessons in real life and making money off them! looks like your dog is interested in some lessons too. haha. you're good man. i'm loving the techniques
im fresh man i high school get good technique for laters years this is great tutorial btw helps alot and nice double stops
