It's not all that weird actually. If you listen closely at the beginning we hear them say things like "is that a boy or a girl?" "that's a boy" and "2 of them are twins" and such, so obviously they didn't know them and, like it sometimes happens ;) , thought that Bill was a girl... And soon after one of them says "he has a woman's body"... so likely at the end she was just out to get proof he's indeed a boy. ;) Too bad for her his arm was in the way. ..
