@Aspenly MOST studies say organic is MORE nutritious. 2010 PubMed, Fruit and Soil Quality of Organic and Conventional Strawberry Agroecosystem "In the past 10 years, ten review studies of the scientific literature comparing the nutrition of organic and conventional foods have been published. Eight of these review studies found some evidence of organic being more nutritious.
@RedRooster700@Quiet1International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition compared organic vs conentional diets in animals. Weight gain was greater in organically fed rats, mortality was lower at 9 weeks, incidence of degenerative disease was lower. Lower mortality in rabbits fed organically. 2nd and 3rd generation rabbits from organically fed parents had higher birth rates and more viable embryos.Infectious illnesses were less frequent in 2nd generation organically fed animals.

"Feeling better" after eating organic food is completely a result of the placebo effect. The truth of the matter is, if conventional food was "bad" for us - then everyone in the USA should have some kind of disease or mutation.
@RedRooster700 exactly!!!! I totally agree with you, I'm a psych major, and I do believe it is a placebo effect..it's so stupid how people fall for the old saying "if it's more expensive, it must be better" when in reality organic foods are more prone to ecoli, locus, and other harmful funguses..
I would never eat organic food. Its a rip-off and a scam as most organic foods are no different from the rest of the food we eat. Organic is just a label that companies purchase from the organizations that own it. There have been many tests comparing organic to "non-organic" food, and most have found no difference, many have found organic to be MORE un-healthy, and only a small amount say its better.
Blind taste-tests have also shown that there is no taste difference.
There have been reported cases of people and animals getting sick from eating organic food. This is because of a few things. For example, organic food doesn't contain preservatives, which means if the food was shipped a large distance to you theres a chance that by the time it reaches you, it is going to have a large amount of bacteria due to quickened decomposition. Many of the farming practices as well have been found to be bad for the environment, causing poor health in surrounding areas.
What i think is important, is genetic diversity. No wonder we have so many new allergies. The same peanuts have been given to generations and generations of Americans. I won't go into the details about allergies but if the body comes into contact with same peanut strain for their entire lifetime and there children as well, our bodies begin to become oversensitive to this peanut. The same goes for milk.
Idiots, you guys are just spewing out what you've heard either here or on TV.
You probably don't even know what a pesticide is, and now that I mention it, your going to go look it up in wikipedia.
Not to mention the USA survivors here. In 2007, the FDA (go look it up if you need to) signed an agreement stating that 25 artificial ingredients and processes may be used in food labeled "organic" (don't look this up, you wont find it online, in case you didn't know, not all of the world is online)
My neighbor tests her goats milk regularly for Strontium-90. It tests POSITIVE. (Strontium-90 is a by-product of nuclear fission which is found in nuclear fallout.. Look that up on Wiki too.)
If she were selling her ORGANIC goats milk, she would be selling the Strontium-90 right along with it.
The scary thing is that there are other local people who DO sell "organic" goats milk and cheese, who do not test their milk.
just curious, does pastuerization or any pharmacueticals get rid of the Strontium? is your neighbor getting feed from a fallout brownfield? or is their farm on an old site?
To the best of my knowledge, only time gets rid of the Strontium-90. The grain feed comes from Agway.. The label says it's from Minnesota. (I've actually mentioned that the grain needs to be tested too, as there are nuclear sites there also.) They only get a bit of grain once a day, along with hay, and the hay is grown locally. The rest comes from her backyard, they eat what they find there. They drink the same well water that I do.
thanks for the informed and rational response. too many people on here fly off the handle, instead of just answering simple questions...You seem very knowledgeable, and concerned about where your food comes from. How do you feel about the raw/pastuerized argument?
@CollegeLoheart About what, exactly? You could panic, protest, or grow your own food. Join a CSA. Follow your heart. Install solar if it makes you feel better. I wouldn't fall for "buying carbon credits" that's just a way for somebody to cash in on your worries.

The chemicals do affect the plant grown for food only the weeds. The soil is not nutritionally deficient. would you rather eat food from a healthy plant or a sick looking yellow plant
Your argument is the equivalent of "I'm going to drop a bomb on a metropolis, but it will only kill the women." Also, while conventional soil is NPK rich, it lacks vital micronutrients upon which the plants depend. owned.

I don't like that organic food costs so much more, and I don't like that food companies are sneaky and will try to work around the label rule.
But I do really like the idea of no pesticides, no hormones, and sustainable farming. That just makes sense.
