Well its not really "antique" the steam locomotives were only built 22 yrs ago in China. Some 22 yr olds might take offense to being called antiques. But with China getting rid of there steam locos a railroad owner here in the US bought these on speculation that some tourist line might buy them. This running was to show them off.

They are being used on the Iowa Interstate Railroad which sevices customers in Iowa and Illinios. There is one being used in Boone Iowa as a tourist train and runs through a river valley and is very beutiful in the fall months to take the trip for a day. I live about a hour away from there.

These locomotives were built in the mid 80s, so they are younger than any of the steamers that are still active in the United States. They do not cost as much to own and operate because they are newer and they were rebuilt before being shipped to the States. The "youngest" steam locomotive built in the U.S. is the C&O Greenbrier 4-8-4 614; which was built in the 1950s.

Leviathan 4-4-0 No. 63 will be the newest steam locomotive in the United States. It will debut in Owosso

Michigan this July at " Train Festival 2009 ".

It is really interesting to see our Chinese steam loco running on a railway abroad but with keeping the Chinese National Railway (CNR) logo on the front plate. It is a wonderful movie. Thanks!
