  • this video is great..... very informative. i have question to ask. what to do during survey site for the installation of the packaged unit? how to calculate the heat gain or heat load of the unit? thanks.

  • @jamescarlotorres Thanks. I'm not sure what you're asking.

  • Th@nks

  • hey do you have any videos on working on chillers big industrial units i just watch 23 videos an they all are great they help refreshen my memory from school thanks again

  • @LUVJONES305 Please check out my Chill Water Tour video.

  • thanks for the prompt response Dr. I am enjoying your videos! thanks thanks!!

  • hey doc, thanks for the great info, knowledge and experience. i have been focused on install mainly over the last 8 years in the trade but am now, due to necessity, getting into the service part of our trade. i have picked up tidbits of info along the way and find your videos helpful in helping discern certain things which were vague. i have been trying to look up a video on trouble-shooting package units to no avail. maybe i am not typing in the right key words...

  • @elena04able I really don't have any videos about troubleshooting package systems. Thanks for watching.

  • DrZarkloff, how do you figure out or calculate to find out how many ton of a unit? This is in a case that if you are unable to locate that particular information but everyting else? Thank you.

  • @thisisnotyours1 The model unit on the condensing unit can give you that information. You'll get used to knowing how to read the nomenclature after a while. To give you an example: Model Number WH1 - 36a is a 3 ton. Just divide 12 into 36.

  • @DrZarkloff, thank you sir.

  • @thisisnotyours1 you can do a room calc or total square footage but remember to factor in other heat generating appliances tv fridge so on

  • Dr. Zarkloff, nice video and great information. thank you very much.

  • @thisisnotyours1 Thanks for watching.

  • thanks for the videos,

    they are very helpful.

  • thanks sir

  • Thx alot 4 this video :)

  • nic vids awesome jimmy

  • Thanks for posting all these videos, between you and a 1000+ page HVAC textbook I have no other source to learn HVAC know-how. One question, when do you use the liquid/suction line filter dryers and how do you know what kind to use?

  • hey dr.zarkloff, how many tons is this packaged unit ?????

  • I think that it is a five ton heat pump.

  • I have learn something from your video sir. Thank you.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Great info, thanks!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • thanks for the videos,

    they are very helpful.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Hi Dr Zarkloff

Keep up the good word .You are doing a wonderful job for beginners like myself.

    Thanks a lot

    Datahark

  • Thanks for watching.

  • thanks alot DR.

  • thanks alot even thogh iam a beginner i learned alot from this.

I want to know about chillers capacity range and where is chillers used frequently.Hope you will help me Dr.

  • what is package type, window type and centralized type? how they differ? and pls give me some house requirements for each type of aircon.

  • I am surprised that the package rooftop unit had ice on the evaporator, it was most likely low in refrigerant, that is my guess since I know how heat pumps work and because I watch your videos almost all the time.

  • The blower motor failed. That's one of the other ways an evaporator can ice up.

  • I will keep an eye out for the VF compressor testing on your page.Thanks....

  • Thanks for watching. I'm supposed to be getting a class in September on the Daikin systems.

  • Hi Dr Z, When changing an VF compressor on a Diakin VRV system, i tested the comp to earth with a multi meter which it was! but the Vf comp had 4 terminals run, start common and ?.And how do you test a VF compressor?,I`m finding more and more questions to ask so i hope you don`t mind. Many thanks Dr Z......

  • You should be able to ohm the windings to ground just like you would any other compressor. I'm not too sure what you should be getting between the windings. I guess that's something I need to find out and make a video about.

  • Comment removed

  • Smoocher5 - the 4th terminal should be the magnetic pulse reader to measure the compressors revs.

  • Thanks for the info RaiderLogic - since listing my question here, I've found this out, but do you know if this 4th terminal that indicates compressor revs can be meggered or is it too sensitive for a megger test? - Thanks

  • That's good to know. Thanks.

  • I've been told you could but recommend a meter. Measure the windings:-

    N-U = 0.5 ohms, N-V = 0.5 ohms and N-W = 0.5 ohms.

  • Brilliant info RaiderLogic - should put me in good stead for testing inverter compressors now. Many thanks.

  • tys. Awesomeness!!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • By reducing up to 85% of incoming solar gain, would U consider Solar Control Films on windows a non-electric air conditioner? - by reducing solar gain, & using 40-50% less tonnage to A/C buildings with windows facing south or west would not A/C be the ones marketing solar control films instead of glass company's? - Thank for sharing I have been installing solar films for 35 years & feel they should be apart of the A/C trades tools, in the future or today eh?

  • I'm a believer in using solar film on windows. When I lived in Ft. Myers, my neighbor had a film installed on his windows that made the windows rated for 150 mph winds and kept him from having to up-size his existing a/c unit.

  • Hi Dr Z, I`m an tech from the UK and have been a A/C tech/engineer for 10 yrs but only on installations, i am now justing starting to do troublestooting and repairs.I am finding you video posts like a mini college refresher course,Excellent work!!!!!!

  • Thanks.

  • this is great im starting school to go into the A/C field and I know nothing about A/C im looking forward to looking at alot more of your vids for help !

  • Thanks for watching.

  • thank you very much for sharing all your knowledge about air conditioning

  • thank u very much..im new 2 dis field n really appreciate ppl like u who share dr knowledge..gr8 job!way 2 go!!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for your time and effort for this post. Anytime you help people by educating them, the same bounty comes back to you tenfold.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • hey man my house ac does not turn on al have already chek the fuses what can it be?

  • There are many things that could be the problem. Is the indoor blower running?

  • i can see alot of AC's in my town in switzerland i dont know why :S btw great video

  • Thanks. More than likely, you heat more than you cool in Switzerland.

  • Your videos help alot thank you! Now the one question I am sure you have been asked a 1000 times how do I get a company to hire me fresh out of training but not Union? I have skills just need advice.

    Thank U

  • Be humble yet confident with your skills. Keep your driving record clean. Stay off the drugs and don't drink alcohol when you're at work.

Keep the body piercings at home. Where clean appropriate clothing to the interview as well as at work. Your clothing should say that you are a respectable person. Take note of how professional techs dress. It's not wise to make fashion statements at work.

Say "yes sir" and "yes ma'am" no matter how corny it sounds. Never talk bad about a previous employer.

  • great vid man i love package ac's there cool !

  • thanks

  • hello jim, have a questions for you,is daikin a good A/C brands..what about other brands?? Panasonic, Mitsubishi, etc. The reason i am asking is that i bought a daikin a/c over in thailand. Which brands would you pic for home use??? thx

  • It really depends on the application. Daikin makes a great commercial type of system. Panasonic, Mitsubishi and a few others make great mini splits for residential use.

  • Great video. I was wondering could you elaborate more or create a vid on control panels. In class we are working on package units, this video gives me an edge. but need a little more on control panels and their diversity per manufacturer. Hope this makes sense.

  • Thanks for the interest. I do have a good variety of control panels in my videos. But I guess that I could do a video just about control panels.

  • Thanks, Your video was a great intro on package AC units

  • Thanks for watching.

  • alcoholic

  • Care for a drink?

  • alcoholic

  • Other then that great videos. I seen your video on safety. You should include fall protection and harness's and how to wear them properly. If you walk around a jobsite. 80% of them are wearing harness's wrong.

  • Thanks. I'm actually an advocate of work place safety. I've refused to do some jobs until safety rails and platforms were installed.

  • I bet ya he will come back and say it isn't above 10 feet or he isn't within 36 inches from the roof edge. But I beat ya if osha seen this video they would flip out :). Someone that knows or can look up the edge requirement would be cool. I think it is 36" I know know its not 5 feet. I was going to say 5 feet. I think thats wrong tho.

  • Whoops, " I know know " should be 1 know lmao. Its 2:20am here. I'm tired. Great videos tho. I've been in the sheet metal trade for 10 years. :) Here in the NW. 3rd generation. I've only seen 3 black guys in our trade in 10 years. Commenting on that black video you posted.

  • go blow your own fagget

  • I'm calling osha, he isn't tied off next to the edge of that roof. Walking around that unit and working on that unit. I bet ya that ladder isn't tied off to the roof either to make it secure. At least he has a few steps above the roof like he is suppose too. :)

  • We've installed a guard rail along the edge of that roof since the making of this video. I told my foreman that I wasn't going to work on that unit again until they did.

  • and what exactly you will ask osha to do about it. blow his dick? he is self employed and he has acsidantal insurance. he can dance his dick off on that roof. u fucking snitch. because of you and like you life is shit in this country. you dickhead will call on your own parents, you system slave.

  • Great vid DrZarkloff, keep them coming!!

  • Thanks

  • Very helpful videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge, nowadays not many people want to share their knowledge, I've learning a lot.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • i am 16 and learing the trade hvac in my tech school... i was wondering if you could explain to me how to wire a condisate pump to the cooling side of a thermostat in serious i didnt get a chance to finish it during shop and its bean buggin me how to do it.. thank you

  • do u have been use a software called autocad mep for designing an air conditioning system?

  • Sorry, I've never had to use the software.

  • im 15 and gonna go to a technical school fore that ,electrien, public safty and your vides are howing me it hands on thanks

  • Thanks for watching.

  • I wish I had a camera when I was stripping down a 20T York AC package unit, 4HP belt driven blower (New spare drive belts were inside the cabinet, now driving my shredder :D), 2 good 2HP condenser fans, 120kg of CuAl radiator scrap and a full charge of R22 :(

The guy who dropped it off said there was no gas!, I ran the grinder through the suction line, PoW!, couldn't get near the thing to crimp it off. Pretty spectacular, and illegal.

Next time I get a big one I'll dissect it on video.

  • They always say there's no gas in the system. At least you didn't decide to use a torch to cut it open. That would have been a disaster.

  • thanks man. it's good to find people who shares his knowledge

  • Thanks. I'm glad that you learned something from it.

  • HvacrTalk . com welcomes Techs contractors and consumers to join free and discuss and trade infor and learn meet others in the trade. good links and resources...all you need is a valid email to activate your account.

  • very good videos, i learned a lot with you. i am fairly new in the hvac troubleshooting.

thanks for people like you, take care and keep doing rigth things, i was wonder if you have a video about how to detect a leak in the residential ac system.

  • Thanks. I plan to do a video on how to detect leaks soon.

  • Since that was a heatpump unit that was frozen up, why didn't you just throw it into heat mode to thaw the coil? That way you would not have had to wait for it to thaw over night.

  • It was at the end of the work day and I figured that I'd take care of the problem the following day.

  • Thanks for posting. I love all ur videos!

  • thanks I am an hvac tech that works in a prison and quite often i find myself under alot of pressure to repair things quickly. I like to keep sharp and your videos are very helpfull! How about one on superheat and subcool. yourpal mike

  • Thanks for the interest in my videos. I'm working on one right now about superheat and subcooling.

  • I think this is pretty interesting. I know a lot of people who live near me that are doing great in the air conditioner business. Although, it has slowed down even for a hot place. It's still a great job and I wonder if I might take it up one day as a career.

6 figures huh? 20 tons of air... must be large enough unit for a mall... although I'd assume you'd need at least a few of the 20 ton units for some shopping malls with all buildings combined.

  • A lot of shopping malls use chill water systems instead of large DX systems. But, yes, the malls that use DX systems have many package systems on the roof.

  • How much would one of those 20 ton units cost? As hard as it has been to tolerate, we've had to deal with a somewhat faulty internet setup. We have an air conditioner that's supposed to be up to the house, instead he moved it 7 feet away and extended it with an air conditioner hose... I can't believe he'd actually pay someone to do something like that. What really doesn't help on top of that is the faulty insulation throughout our home.

  • I meant air conditioner, not INTERNET : )

  • I think that you're looking at somewhere in the six figure range for the 20 ton units.

  • Thanks for posting all these. You must be really patient in making all these videos!

  • It's fun for me and it really pays off when I get comments like yours. Thanks.

  • so the air from that unit will go out at the cieling?? or wall?? theres also big aircon

that outside have two fans and inside the building the aircon as big as cabinet is that also split type or still package???

  • Yes, I believe that you're referring to a heat pump.

  • is that kind of air conditioner is one of type is using for malls? it canbw heat or cold if it turned in heater it will blow cold air outside and hot inside ? if its turned in cold that unit will blow hot air outside and cold air inside????

  • Yes, a roof top package unit can be used on malls and large stores.

  • just like a refregerator freezer

  • must not have many service calls to be able to make a videos.

  • I'd make more videos, it's just that I have to hustle to keep up with my work orders and it's sometimes difficult to handle my cam with grimy hands.

  • Thank you Dr. Zarkloff. This is a great training material.

  • Thank you for the great comment.

  • The packages system you go into detail with that you take the top off i didnt see any duct work connected, so where does the air go once it has passed through the evaporator coil?

Is there ductwork underneath the unit that passes through into the building, in the earlier shots of that system it didnt look like it was connected to any air registers.

  • Yes, the duct is underneath the unit.

  • When you showed that Lennox RTU that had the service side close to the edge of the roof, I almost thought you were in Phoenix LOL!

Nothing like making sure you never take a step backwards on them death trap rooftops!

  • Don't you just love engineers? What will they think of next?

  • when you say "Engineers". I assume you meant BUILDING engineers? Due to the closeness to the edge of the roof. Go checkout my videos of the death trap two story homes! Damn right scary! Maybe I'll add it as a video response. Great way to network :)

  • hvac student in nc thanks for the tips jimmy

  • HVAC is a great field to get into.

  • Nice video!

  • Thanks.

  • We all need to know how to keep warm and keep cool...............so thanks for showing me, (and all others here) how we keep warm and cool.

    Thanks!

  • S0 I was the 100th subcriber to your videos...and I hope you get to 1000 soon!

  • Hey, thanks. I'll have to make a 100th subscriber video.
