regardless of the smoke plume, its hard to evade these missiles. they are extremely agile, fast and there is not much time to respond especially in dog fights. Python 5 is the best i think.
@copehaha yeah, also gives away missile position thus making it easier to evade. but still, didn't know this missile got thrust vectoring fins on it. i bet its quite hard to evade on close/mid range.
@Mcmanaman85 if u can't evade an incoming missile there is no point in you being a fighter pilot. i guess thats why most people don't get to sit in a fighter jet cockpit. btw, when i say that it's easier to evade i don't mean that it is "easy" to evade a missile, i mean that it is not as impossible as if you don't see it coming. and also, you have to take into account that most 4++ 5 gen aircraft got infrared sensors that can detect incoming missile threats and display that info to the pilot.

More seriously a fighter pilot's job is not only about evading missiles, any way.. im no expert..
@Mcmanaman85 the primary threat that a fighter pilot encounters on any battlefield scenario are AA or SA Missiles... so even if it is an implicit task of being a fighter pilot, the idea of being shot down before being able to successfully complete your mission makes this sort of surviving skills during air warfare of utmost importance.
if you want to get an idea on how much information a fighter pilots mind can take i recommend u watch the movie speed and angels. evading is possible for them..
