For most and probably you included a police car and its siren is enough of an association with authority to stop you. This film is great in it's portrayal of a psychopath and this scene shows a typical psychopathic calm and dominant, authoritative composure. He knows many people can be fooled or intimidated into doing what he wants.

@penal420 With that kind of thinking you could argue he flips a coin because he looks like Abe lincoln...Anton is a metaphor for the angel of death, he is more a force with his own morals and ideals of the natural pecking order then a human being, though he comes to some because of actions that encored his wrath, he can also kill to make his life easier. What you DO want to notice is that Llewellyn moss is not the protagonist, The sheriff is. Llewellyn is a catalyst for the lesson to be learned.

I believe (and Tommy Lee Jones mentions it talking in a restaurant) that it's an air compressed piston like rod that you use to kill cattle with at rendering plants. You pull the trigger and it shoots a 4-5 inch rod out into the skull and then retracts. This tool made the killer much scarier to me and damn nervous everytime I saw him holding it.

A cow's skull and a human's skull is totally different. A local near where I live guy shot a cow numerous times between the eyes with a .22 caliber rifle, the cow never budged. He had to have a larger caliber weapon (which he borrowed off one of my my relatives) to kill it.

Yes, he killed this stranger for the car but you'll soon learn that he'll kill anyone for just about damn near anything. He's one of the scariest characters I've seen in a movie in a long time. The seen where he asks the poor old man in the store to call heads or tales in nerve wracking because you (the viewer) knows the call is for his life.

One thing I didnt understand about this scene, is that after the autopsy he says there "was no exit wound" . Yet, we clearly see the back of his head explode. At another time in the movie, Tommy Lee Jones explains how it only goes far enough in to kill.
