Ok it was probably only guitars which had that much latency for some damn reason... So I will save this device after all because it can actually record stuff
When you finally thought there could not get worse.. There comes the delay that is like a half second (wich is really not ok for even a beginner musician). you look in you 5 page manual wich says disable monitoring for better latency. Why would you like to not hear your instrumment while recording?! So I tried disable monitoring but it wasn't really any difference in latency. So tomorrow I will go straight back to the store where I bought this crap and make them give my money back.
I bought this thing because I thought i was a cool idea to just plug your instruments to the computer and play. well, the wire is as thick as the wire of a Bicycle lock. In each end of the wire is like 5 times bigger than a normal usb end of a wire wich makes me scared of breaking my computer or instruments. Every time i plug it into garage band the lamp start blinking and making everyone i the room get epilepsy attacks.
The end that jacks into the guitar has an open line in for stereo headphones or to run a cord from it to an amp for monitoring purposes. So why is everyone complaining about latency? Play it through the amp to monitor or headphones and there is no such thing as latency, problem solved. Lol.
OK, first of all, this thing does work, but badly! The biggest problem is the usb jack itself. Mine plugs in fine, but the damn cable is so stiff and heavy, that it pulls the connection loose. As long as you stay perfectly still, it works, but thats kinda hard to do while PLAYING. Secondly, the latency is almost a full second after you strike the note. I really wish that they had developed this with a less rigid cable, and perhaps a module that would eliminate the latency. This thing is crap.
And dont even think of trying to record easily. I have spent hours downloading different programs, ASIO drivers, and all it did was crash my system. I am not sure if it is just the cable, or that recording this way is just still too hard for someone on a budget. I really recommend a Presonus module, but they just cost so damn much. Best thing to do is just avoid this piece of shit.
@tm995 ya man i own a Mac myself the wire works fine but i have 2 problems maybe u can help me out. 1st problem when i put down a guitar track and then put down a second track trying to duet the first they end up not matching it has some latency to it do u have any tips? another problem i have is a buzzing noise in the background when i record
@huesitoscan2 yeah thats normal, i always connect my guitar to my loop station first and then connect the lightsnake to the loop station and i dont get anymore latency and the buzzing noise depends on the software that u are using for ur guitar sounds so,
Guitar - Loop Station (or any type of guitar pedal) - Mac should be just fine
@tm995 thanks man, i'm using the light snake usb mic cable and i don't really understand what u mean mean by loop station i have a pedal but how would i use that and i really want to record some acoustic stuff first. P.S im using garage band on my macbook pro
@huesitoscan2 the loopstation is a pedal that records audio, its really good for guitar players, the pedal its just because when i connect my guitar to the mac just trough the lightsnake it shows some latency problems as u already mentioned so i found it better to connect a pedal between those because, for me the latency disappears
if i use this with an electric guitar and i want my guitar to be plugged in to the amp, do i plug the lightsnake into the headphone socket and then into my usb on the computer?
im having so much fucking trouble with this thing. im getting a signal on logic pro but no freaking sound! its driving me insane! obviously ive selected the device in input in system preferences and output is "built in" so its SUPPOSE to be coming through my speakers but im so baffled. if im getting a signal i should be able to hear. input monitering is on in logic pro on my audio track and once again if im getting a signal then the device IS selected in logic too ive checked but still nothing.
mines the same exact thing anyone know how to fix this it should be plug and play hell a fuckin ps2 rockband mic is more plug and play then this piece of shit
i found out what the problem was man. the lightsnake has only an input 1. no 2. so i tried making an aggregate device and i just had terrible latency issue. big problem with this thing. if your doing what i did and running a plug in like guitar rig 2 or so through logic pro, then if you make an aggregate device you can hear it through guitar rig itself, but you wont be able to hear it when you run gr through logic.
well...looks like i know what im about to go get from guitar center...plus i need a longer high speed cable anyways lol...mine original cable is so short that i gotta put my midi keyboard on my lap and its heavy as fkk..this should be alot better
i got this for christmas and love the product, the sound quality isnt bad, and its pretty simple. i uploaded a quick capture video with my electric guitar using it. so uh... go out and buy it now.
Hey, i'm not sure if this would be a good idea for me... i use my line 6 pod x3 to record mainly and i suppose this would be useful to record like using a really minimal set-up but what's it like quality wise compared to the pod?
Thanks for all of the information, i plan on buying this product, but i couldnt find any reviews on it, then i found your video and it really helped me out. Thanks a bunch.
I cannot make mine work. I plug it in, and nothing works. Help? I don't really know computers to well so an easy guide or something would help me drastically.
i like to plug my lightsnake into a mixer and then record everything through sony acid music sudio, and that makes the process way easier and cheaper than buying a whole bunch of software, and guitar modeling software.
The light snake works fine imo. I had to adjust the latency a little bit (fyi, you can't have a shitty computer and expect it to work....). Works great for me, its no mbox or toneport...but it is 1 cord and only ran me $40 bucks!
You did a great selling job with this vid, all this information is so valuable before purchasing anything, specially audio related, this is a true SONY LIGHTSNAKE promo and they should be paying you! Nice voice by the way Raechel!!!
guitar center sells it too, so does musician's friend, i got it at target, your computer just sucks, mine works perfectly... at least for a guitar cable, not a mic cable. learn to use it, or get a better computer.
and... do i only need the lightsnake cord and the two cds it came with? if i dont what do i need to do?? and you have a mac pc so ithink it only works with mac xp
wait...so i dont have to put the driver cd in the computer? (the small one?) if i dont install it than how do i get the program on my dell? can you plz tell me how im going to install on my computer (step by step instructions?) Thanks
nice job with the vid...i just picked one up but now my dell tells me to downgrade to 98 because i have xp. any suggestions besides downgrading or changing computers?thanks
1. Get two kids to spin the cord for you to jump in the middle.
2. Get your money back before its lovely dazzling green light makes you keep it forever.
3. Go to Blockbuster and get "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" go directly to minute 47 and learn how to prepare a rope for hanging, write a warefell note and hang yourself, and for a better impact on whoever finds you dead, do it while it's still connected!!!
Great informative video. You were the first to show me what this product was really like and I have decided to go out and pick one up from my local Guitar Center. Thanks

in my mac i just have to plug it and it works fine, you don't have to get additional drivers
that's one of the many reasons why windows sucks, you always have to get something more
