I was there! After this moment, when the titantron shows 'JERICHO' i lost hearing of my left ear, but still im JERICHOHOLIC and i will always remember Jericho, because of that.
That Millenium Clock that was ticking all year....back than there was no dirthsheets and internet wasnt really big than....so no one really knew what was going on..I was a huge WCW fan..and glad to see he made the brand change...WCW treated him like shit,so much potential!!
@talian2mprez Sportswriter. He was one of the biggest names on ESPN.com until starting his own web site a few weeks ago.
He just did an article on wrestling entrances, and named this the #1 entrance of the last 15 years. This video was linked from his article today (which was also linked on the main page of ESPN.com).
@talian2mprez He's a writer for ESPN and also a huge pro wrestling fan. Only time you see anything pro wrestling related on ESPN chances are Bill wrote it.
Simmons is so wrong. Chris Jericho was absolutely a superduperstar in WWE... going over Rock and Austin (two all-time greats) to become the first Undisputed Champion? Check out his resume... he's so decorated... all because of his move to WWE. Prior to this, he was as novel as Disco Inferno and Alex Wright.... a guy stuck in the undercard in WCW (though not quite as gimmick-locked as those two).
@robpetrin Jericho went from superduperstar to underutilized in a heartbeat during his first run. He wasn't booked consistently and it's easy to forget him running into the HHH ceiling. I LOVE Jericho, but he wasn't used to his full potential and never was 100% on the level of UT, HHH, etc.
@robpetrin Y2Js prime should have been longer though. He had the intital push as undisputed champ then he faded into obscurity as they went into HHH Mode
@talian2mprez He used to be a sports journalist. Now he's a self absorbed columnist who has lost sight of what got him to where he is. ESPN bought his soul and now he's a cog in the machine. But since he's "paid" he confuses that with still being great. He was great. His books are good. His columns rarely shine anymore. If you want to know who Simmons was go look at archives on ESPN from 5+ years ago. When he didn't talk about crappy reality shows - instead of sports. We miss the old Simmons.
Awesome!! I would compare Jericho at this point to like Zach Ryder. Popular with the fans Internet fans but not getting a push. He came out and wasn't nervous. He hung with rock.
If "hitting a home run" is doing something perfectly, and a grand slam is the best kind of home run, then this is the debut equivalent of Fernando Tatis hitting two grand slams in the same inning. Brilliant. It still gives me chills
I like how everyone linked out by simmon's article before making it here. the first 5 or so links all are spammed with Simmons! but this one has only 2616 views and 2 comments before me =o
Its funny how many simmons comments there are at the beginning of his links, but by the end, not so much. i've had more wrestling flashbacks in the last 10 minutes than in the last 10 years
Just commenting because Simmons linked to this on Grantland and there is currently under 1000 views and just 2 comments. People need to see a comment by moi. Raw.is.ROSS
the only debut I can think of that tops this would be Kane's - his coming to the WWF was so hyped up that when he actually came out of the woodwork with his manager, the Undertaker's old manager (Paul Bearer) , and ripped the steel cage door right off of its hinges and proceeded to throw the ref around like a toy was epic in itself - he only went on to deliver flames from the four ring posts and delivered a tombstone to the Undertaker which cost him the match against HBK - that debut was epic
RAW IS JERICHO!!!
