That's what idiots think about black metal, fucking idiots. If you think black metal is about fashion, you're missing the point in a spectacular way. I listen to black metal and the closest I've ever come to dressing like a goth is a pair of leather trousers when I was fifteen. Just because you like the music, doesn't mean you have to dress like a freak- most of the band members dress like normal people in jeans and t-shirts when they're off stage.
Part 2 was deleted by youtube in '07 because it contained the fuel for hatred video by Satyricon which features nudity. Youtube said that was the reason to delete it but I think that's hypocritical bullshit, there's other -mainstream music- videos with nudity that are allowed by youtube. After some communications between me and them I decided to just cut out the music video and upload it as "censored" No parts of interviews were removed, only the Satyricon music video.
@ChristAlmightyAnal well it's just like that in the world when a big majority of the sheep agree with something it's here to stay if it's something thats not the "norm" then they have got to get rid of it
@ChristAlmightyAnal Funny about the nudity not allowed but Mayhem's vocalist bleeding with barb wire on his arms doesn't bother YouTube.
The road trip footage looks like it was shot on a Super 8 camera. Not too sure if they used only one camera for the interview because it doesn't look like it.
I think he's referring more to the high quality of the albums over all, not high-fi sound. He just saying that the early albums had a certain degree of prestige and good composition. In other words, it was low-fi, but it was low-fi music, not just noise.
let me say before I ever heard black metal after venom, my guitar sound was the same, except not as dark. Maybe five years ago, I heard the new black metal.and it is so much the same as my music. Not to be a dick, these guys do it better. but I am glad to say, I am a black metal musician of my own accord.
"Typical, pathetic NRK focus on the Oslo scene considering it was Bergen which made a name for Norweigian Black Metal around the world". (My translation.)
Not knowing the Norweigian Black Metal scene, that sort of thing would be lost on me and others. Were Mayhem from Bergen, for example?
i'm so glad to be out of black metal as well as being out of a band. the music wasn't all that and most of the fans and bands were gay as shit. i look at it now and i'm like wtf was i thinking? you don't look cool looking like a wayside goth fag. just like Gelal from GBK said "corpse paint and cameras go hand in hand with angsty homosexuals".
it's beer, RAC, and being a fuckin skinhead for me.
@nuttybollockz Oh, well. That's interesting a bit. But you have quited this because for YOU it was "blah-blah-blah"... well, I'm still into it, because for me it is something completely different. Well, if I would were in situation like you maybe I could quit it too. But, vice versa, when you would were in situation like me (I mean: people around you, atmosphere around and quite specific state of mind) you could stay too.
You're not a skinhead when you're listening to RAC and hating people due to their race, that's against every the original skinheads and rudeboys stand for. You're a pussy.
And now that you came here showing us how better you are do you really feel better? I think not. We are still in BM and we are proud of it, because we can understand and feel this music. You obviously never understood this music, even never liked it, so it's better if you're out. have a nice day. Mine will be perfectly BLACK.
WOW this really stirs up some feelings from the past.. i'm not better than you, i never said that. i was just venting from a point of change. the scene really jacked me the wrong way.. what did it get me? drunk, goth bitch mouth, ass and pussy, wasted hours at practice, lame parties, trend styling and shit.. it got me no where.. least when i got out i made more of my life back than what i put in wasting being in that shitty band. i'm just glad it's a new day for me too..
@nuttybollockz being a skinhead is the faggiest thing you could ever do. faggot. what's worse is that you advertise it on youtube thinking it'll make you look tough and badass. cockbag.
how bout some clarity? I think it's deserved instead of nag.. I got out of the scene cause of all the shit storming, litesm and drama that comes with "black metal", our guitarist BT was a self absorbed rockstar prick who licked the sack of other bands, then talked shit about em as well as the one he was in behind their/our back.. drummer was a junkie, the 2nd bassist was a two faced fuck.. and scensters were errrrywhur at the show.. turned into a real gay drag, literally..
@nuttybollockz....u couldn't handle the extremeness of black metal and now u call them homosexual....there is nothing more homosexual then guys like you.......and i guess u are just a pussy trying to like black metal.if you had really liked it you wouldn't be talking trash here.....yeah and best of luck on your journey to loving justin bieber
English: Who cares if Frost is gay or not? He plays and makes amazing music, and even if he was gay that wouldnt make Satyricon less good|| Norsk: Hvem bryr seg om Frost er Homo eller ikke? Han spiller og lager utrolig musikk , Og hvis han var homo hadde ikke det gjort Satyricon dårligere
Everytime i see this documentary i'm like "Damn, why couldnt you have used something from In the Nightside Eclipse" instead of this extreme metal titled empty!". That would have represented the 90's way better.
Did anyone see Ihsahn look at Samoth at 5:29? He has that look like he's is about to say "Mention Darkthrone or Mayhem again and ill backhand you...bitch"
that is because christians created satan. so it is natural to agree with satan or take his side... satanism is a belief created by christians, sadly...sorry.
In my opinion, Samoth seems like a much more down to earth guy than Ihsahn. I'm not saying Ihsahn is a dick, but he kinda has that attitude of "we did everything, we were the biggest first, and we're the best." Samoth has more respect for the other black metal bands in the scene that really jump started black metal in the early 90's and just for other people in general.
PS - Samoth is my favorite drummer and guitarist and Emperor is fucking awesome.
because there was originally a videoclip in there of Satyricon which included some naked chick with a snake (and Frost was only wearing a thong) so it was removed by youtube. I uploaded this version without the videoclip and added "censored" so youtube wouldn't remove the video again.
venom were thrash and the main connection they have to black metal is the satanic lyrics. if you listen close, a lot of early black metal was influenced by the thrash scene but it went in a different direction with some artists. it seems, however, that a lot of these bands have changed. Too old Too cold isnt as good as Under a Funeral Moon, current mayhem isnt the same as the demo tapes, and KING is nothing like Mother North. Its fucking annoying.
i'm not a BM fan i love death metal...but i had a question for BM fans. Satanism and it comes out in BM is about ur self and urself being a higher power. It talks about being a strong person and the weak are inferior(tell me if u think i'm wrong about that but i know quite a bit about satanism and thats what i hear and read)...so what do u think about the weaker? should they be killed off or what? Also there is a kind of similarity to nazism there.
well the weaker are obviously inferior... because they're weaker... why should that be a question? and as for nazism, listen to some NSBM... the non-Pagan NSBM
Bathory was the first band to play black metal but venom just gave it (the genre) the name.and venom weren't black metal as ppl might think they were more involved in thrash if you notice their style.
I'm honestly a bit confused. Perhaps it is because I am an old fart, but I don't see the importance at all in debating who was the first black metal band. Is there some extra reward for the band that came first? Some monetary hierarchy? Some ability to make a band better for being first? I just don't get it. Just enjoy the music and message.
Of course it matters to separate the creators of the original BM from the many imitators. Otherwise what would the message be: enjoy the ripoff? The original artists deserve to be hailed for all eternity while the ripoffs deserve to rot forever in the three-dollar-bin at the recordstore.
Well said, and it should matter for that reason. I can well imagine how frustrating it is for the pioneers of any genre to see their work pawned and foisted off as the original or true representation of the firsts. Well said, and thank you for answering that.
First black metal albums were Burzum's "Aske", Samael's "Worship Him", Tormentor's "Anno Domini", and Darkthrone's "A Blaze in Northern Sky". Emperor, Satyricon, Mayhem came later, but no matter what, early stuff set standards for the later stuff.
mayhem is circa late 80's. there were several line up changes even before the "true mayhem" that came to pass in the early 90's that burned churches and did all the other whacked out stuff. emperor came before aske because samoth appears as samoth on the album. prior to emperor, he was "samot".
Ihsahn is talking about the first black metal album that had international success; he is not saying which band or album came first. So let's see, "Aske" was released on 3/10/1993, "Wrath of the Tyrant" was released in July 1992, "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" was released in February 1992, and finally "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" was released on 5/24/1994. So I guess in that sense Darkthrone wins.
You're forgetting the first Burzum album which was released in march '92 about a month after "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" And Immortal had already released a black metal EP in '91. Now take into consideration that "A Blaze" still had some death metal "dressed up" as black metal (they said this themselves in interviews) who do you think wins then?
Here's another hint: Varg said in interviews that his first songs still had a lot of rock influences, so that partially rules out his debut album too. So IMO Immortal wins although their debut wasn't too far off from what Mayhem was rehearsing and playing live around that time: "Live In Leipzig" for instance was only released in 1993 but it was recorded in 1990.
Maybe I should put it in the description but the "censored" part is simply that the Satyricon music video was cut out from this since it contained some nekkid bewbz which made youtube delete part 2 entirely. It has nothing to do with profanity.
Theres no point in censuring nudity these days, anyone can watch porn whenever they want , if they have internet which allmost everyone have, stop spending money on different kinds of censur , this is the world, I like it and we have to live with it!!
Yeah, seriously, we're all born naked. I agree. I still don't see why it's such a problem for women to breast feed in public, etc. We should all be able to change naked at the beaches in the USA. Nakedness is natural. Why can't most of our leaders and some people still not see this...
Frost is a great drummer and his work in 1349 is excellent, but damnit, Satyricon blows.

Ovomaltine3 3 years ago
Yes, they should be killed.
redsantiago 3 years ago
well the weaker are obviously inferior... because they're weaker... why should that be a question? and as for nazism, listen to some NSBM... the non-Pagan NSBM

Mother north ... awesome song. I am very mad at satyricon for heading toward the rock and roll direction ...

Bathory was the first band to play black metal but venom just gave it (the genre) the name.and venom weren't black metal as ppl might think they were more involved in thrash if you notice their style.

Thank you!
I must argue that point with people at least twice a week.
VENOM IS A THRASH BAND, PEOPLE.

I'm honestly a bit confused. Perhaps it is because I am an old fart, but I don't see the importance at all in debating who was the first black metal band. Is there some extra reward for the band that came first? Some monetary hierarchy? Some ability to make a band better for being first? I just don't get it. Just enjoy the music and message.
zerosystem09 4 years ago 2
Of course it matters to separate the creators of the original BM from the many imitators. Otherwise what would the message be: enjoy the ripoff? The original artists deserve to be hailed for all eternity while the ripoffs deserve to rot forever in the three-dollar-bin at the recordstore.

Well said, and it should matter for that reason. I can well imagine how frustrating it is for the pioneers of any genre to see their work pawned and foisted off as the original or true representation of the firsts. Well said, and thank you for answering that.

It's cool to be first.

First black metal albums were Burzum's "Aske", Samael's "Worship Him", Tormentor's "Anno Domini", and Darkthrone's "A Blaze in Northern Sky". Emperor, Satyricon, Mayhem came later, but no matter what, early stuff set standards for the later stuff.
aldur 4 years ago
mayhem is circa late 80's. there were several line up changes even before the "true mayhem" that came to pass in the early 90's that burned churches and did all the other whacked out stuff. emperor came before aske because samoth appears as samoth on the album. prior to emperor, he was "samot".

Nope, Bathory's "Bathory" was definatley the first BM album.

So I guess in that sense Darkthrone wins.
bardia1923 4 years ago
You're forgetting the first Burzum album which was released in march '92 about a month after "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" And Immortal had already released a black metal EP in '91. Now take into consideration that "A Blaze" still had some death metal "dressed up" as black metal (they said this themselves in interviews) who do you think wins then?
ChristAlmightyAnal 4 years ago
Here's another hint: Varg said in interviews that his first songs still had a lot of rock influences, so that partially rules out his debut album too. So IMO Immortal wins although their debut wasn't too far off from what Mayhem was rehearsing and playing live around that time: "Live In Leipzig" for instance was only released in 1993 but it was recorded in 1990.

I love how Samoth dont want to agree with Ihsahn that Emperor was the first in the scene to have a international success. Haha. :D

Haha NRK1 Black Metal Documentary part 2 (censored)... Censored? First sentence: It souds completely fucked up but that was the situation. Lol
3Yechiel3 4 years ago
Maybe I should put it in the description but the "censored" part is simply that the Satyricon music video was cut out from this since it contained some nekkid bewbz which made youtube delete part 2 entirely. It has nothing to do with profanity.

Theres no point in censuring nudity these days, anyone can watch porn whenever they want , if they have internet which allmost everyone have, stop spending money on different kinds of censur , this is the world, I like it and we have to live with it!!
tonicmass 4 years ago 6
Yeah, seriously, we're all born naked. I agree. I still don't see why it's such a problem for women to breast feed in public, etc. We should all be able to change naked at the beaches in the USA. Nakedness is natural. Why can't most of our leaders and some people still not see this...
ExxxquisiteCorpse 4 years ago
black metal is also at its best when the band members play naked...
ChristAlmightyAnal 4 years ago
... yeah, you really thought this through

Thanks. I've been looking for part two for awhile. That doc lacked Darkthrone without it.
Also, Frost looks like Michael Jackson. If MJ dressed like Frost, he would have been convicted.
