The movie is based on a book that written in the early 90's, the book was never published. Instead it was turned into screenplay and was done in DC in 1993. All the people in the movie were local DC punk kids and punk nightclub people... some of them ex-skins... but they were punk rock skins from way back... not todays skinheads. Different time and breed. Its just a fucking movie that you cant even rent on DVD anymore, so chill the fuck out... its just a low budget indie flick. Great soundtrack!

Well this looks awful. It looks like it was shot on MiniDV for one, the black and white doesn't actually make it look gritty so I don't know why they'd use it, and the trailer is really vague. Any real skinheads work on this movie? Did they use real skinheads in it? Why does every retard out there who decides to make a skinhead movie have to make it all political instead of just concentrating on the music culture?

Neither do most of the commenters here. Right on the header it reads: "Trailer for the independent film "American Skin" - A Skinhead Soap Opera (This is a anti-racism film)"

And obviously you have not answered my question: What do you, or the makers of this film know about skinhead culture? Real skinheads will never see your movie, because we know by the trailer alone that the movie was made by clueless fucks who see skinhead as a political movement and not a musical subculture. And I actually saw this movie at a film festival in Chicago and you should know that there is a backstory where the "neonazi" and ska skins used to be all be friends and followed the "music culture" you speak of until a few broke off and embraced the white power message. Doesn't do much for the reputation of skinhead culture? Nazi skinheads in the early eighties were not a movement but a sad little cult that used to get laughed at and were not worthy a mention in this film. This could have been a GREAT skinhead film is all I'm saying..were it not for that fuckin endin....

Well keep in mind that the producers were trying to pander this to a Hollywood market and knew that the whole racist angle would be the most predictable hook they could put into the movie. Although it is sad to see that NF completely ruined the image of the scene, it is important for people to know that it actually happened as a meddling of politicians taking advantage of the disadvantaged and not as part of the culture itself.

You are right. At first SHARP had nothing to do with politics it was just against the racism in the movement. A lot of rightwing nationalist skinheads in US (including National Skinhead Firm) actually supported the SHARP and the SHARP had their emblem on an US flagg.
