I love this guy. His films all have a twist you never see coming. Lady in the Water is on of my personal favs. Bryce Dallas Howard was incredible and Paul Giamatti is one of THE most underrated actors in the industry. I have to admire the man for NOT bowing to the hiearchy of Hollywood and doing his own thing, his way.

I didn't like the movie - but as a notice writer, I have to agree with the constrictions of formula which are pretty much FORCED onto writers in the form of expectation. Probably the most depressing thing about screenwriting is this expectation of delivering the same thing over and over and over in slightly different ways. Why not something completely different?

The 6th Sense is a decent film with an excellent ending, Unbreakable is a good film that doesn't have a 3rd Act, and Signs is closer to an awful film than a great. Just saw this movie. Best movie I've seen in a very long time. Everyone is fixated on MNS's apparent egomania. That doesn't take away from the genius of this film. It's no surprise to me that a lot of people didn't get the film, given the crap people have come to accept as good films. I have no doubt this will one day be seen as his best work, and one of the best fairy tale films ever.

Sure it's ok to express anything else than this, and MNS have every right to make his art the way he feels. But films are a projection of the director, and i can't help but feel like this is Shyamalan saying: I'm not mainstream

I didn't like the movie - but as a notice writer, I have to agree with the constrictions of formula which are pretty much FORCED onto writers in the form of expectation. Probably the most depressing thing about screenwriting is this expectation of delivering the same thing over and over and over in slightly different ways. Why not something completely different?
Yeah... I'll never make it to Hollywood... and I'm fine with that.

It sucks because this is one of my favorite movies of all time...and The Happening is one of my least favorite movies of all time...what people don't understand is that this guy is so creative that it takes control of him sometimes. Geniuses have to make mistakes to balance out brilliance.

He doesn't follow conventional filmmaking, but he's no genius either.
Conventions make movies boring when they become predictable cliches. It's sad to see that the guy that brought us the sixth sense is becoming a synonym of boring, all over the place, etc

To be honest, M. Night states all sorts of nonsense by way of self-promotion and self-preservation. The 6th Sense is a decent film with an excellent ending, Unbreakable is a good film that doesn't have a 3rd Act, and Signs is closer to an awful film than a great. Honesty, if you think Lady in the Water, The Village and The Happening are great, we may as well agree to disagree. Personally, I'd like to find out who are the people who love all his movies? Age? Gender? Nationality?

Just saw this movie. Best movie I've seen in a very long time. Everyone is fixated on MNS's apparent egomania. That doesn't take away from the genius of this film. It's no surprise to me that a lot of people didn't get the film, given the crap people have come to accept as good films. I have no doubt this will one day be seen as his best work, and one of the best fairy tale films ever.

There is a reason why we have film language. It's an optimal way of telling a story and make an impression on the audience. You are more likely to understand a wellspoken person, instead of some guy who switches around his words and randomly starts shouting when he talks.
Sure it's ok to express anything else than this, and MNS have every right to make his art the way he feels. But films are a projection of the director, and i can't help but feel like this is Shyamalan saying: I'm not mainstream
