  • Shame on using "bear" in the title. :o/

  • That's gotta be a wig he's wearing. They're still big on wigs in "Jolly Old" methinks.

  • I was going to write down a long comment, but long story short. It would be an honor to graduate from this guy's class. 'nuff said. :)

  • Cuteness overload

  • I'm from Adelaide!

  • Evolution - The greatest show on earth

  • did u know the the Eucalyptus trees ar a big fire azard in australia becaus of alll that oil

look at "BLACK SATERDAY " the biget fire storm in history

  • 1:46 I call that a koala wink

  • DAMN ! I love his hair !xD

  • have you heard of the eucalyptus trees that can spontaneously combust because of the high levels of the oil.

  • 3:56 ... they match!

  • You came close Koala, but the Professor's hair is still cooler ;)

  • Surprised they didn't include the combustion of koalas and the trees.

  • Isn't it Eucalupti in plural?

  • you think they are cute and furry you should see their cousin, drop bears. vicious little things.

  • they are both cute:)

  • I like how he watches the animal with a smile on his face.

  • The professor is LIVING A ROCKSTAR LIFESTYLE

  • 7:53

so a koala lives the american dream

  • The Prof is a little Koala-like, don't you think?...that hair probably lol

  • omg i live in adelaide and i didn't notice i feel so bad now...

  • Nose of this koala looks like a small face: Inception!!!

  • 1:55 davidsocomedy

  • I'm Welsh, but a while ago I spent 5-6 months doing research at the chemistry department in UWA Perth. I remember opening a cupboard, and inside were dozens and dozens of ancient little bottles of oil extracted from different eucalyptus trees that someone had done decades ago. The smell was wonderfull! This video makes me really want to go back. Perth and Western Australia is by far the best place I've ever been. Except the police- complete arseholes the lot of them that treated us like dirt.

  • "How was holding the Koalas?"

"Meh, pretty cool, gonna see wallabies later... BUT THESE LEAVES....." <3

  • Professor, The video title still says "Koala Bear"

  • @marcokelwen that's kind of the joke

that after making a video in which he's constantly correcting himself over the term "koala bear", we then go and use it as the title!

  • @periodicvideos Professor, in Chinese we also call them "樹熊" - which is a combination of two words: "tree" and "bear".

  • @periodicvideos You guys met my good buddy Joey, at hte beginning of the video

  • @periodicvideos

    I love KOALA BEARSSS>.<

  • what about the title showing 'koala bears' :))

  • The Professor holding a koala? AAAAHHHH!!!! Too much adorableness!!! Tremendous cuteness!!! *falls down, goes kathud*

  • It's you smaller furry counterpart professor

  • 1:57.... "WTF you looking at?!??"

  • correct the title professor

  • I've always called it a koala bear since I was young.. I didn't know it was called a koala only.

  • @koalabear2 hahahahahahaha! Your comment is awesome.

  • Them "Old" English people. Although I have heard of them called Koala Bears before but I don't know where. Then again I think its funny how you call Aluminum because we call it more like Aloominum.

  • One thing the medical chemical producers don't want you to know about is the fact the essential oil of eucalyptus, is a very effective and broad base antibiotic! Effective against staph, e-coli, dysentery, salmonella spp, as well as malaria. The oils extrude from the body through sweat and urine, making it great for urinary tract and skin infections.

Oils only become toxic with internal use if more that 4 or 5 drops are used at a time.

  • Koalas must have very clear sinuses. :) Another fascinating video. I didn't know all that about the toxin levels in different tree species, or even that koala-not-bears evolved to ingest those toxins. Thanks for a great and fun video!

  • fun fact: Koalas have two thumbs. Notice at 3:50 you can see this clearly.

  • Koala get high from Eucalyptus, bloody stoners :P

  • 1:56 WHY SO SERIOUS!??!?!?!?!??!

  • @agent2539 LOL Yea...It's awesome that the Koala stares coldly into the camera as the Prof. says that the Koala's digestive system can get rid of the poisons that would **cold Koala stare** KILL OTHER ANIMALS

  • The title.. What... I dont even.. When did?

  • koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, koala bear, k

  • @ilikemoney8

    Indeed.

  • Koala Bears and Eucalyptus - Periodic Table of Videos

    Find one misstake.

  • @frikkthoen Koala is not a bear

  • Leaves and TNT. Wonderful combination.

  • I have a hypothesis that the koalas' had an ancestor back before the eucalyptus had poison, and as it began to defend itself and other animals left to seek new food sources, the koala-ancestor instead developed a defense to protect it from the poison, thus locking it into an evolutionary niche it may never get out from.

    What do you think?

Do you know what would happen to a koala if it ate other nutritionally similar leaves that were not from a eucalyptus?

  • hi jason

  • The koala looks a bit like Einstein

  • I am really enjoying the Professor's videos on his trip to Australia. Good work!!

  • All the koala bear..... COUGH, sorry... All the koala does! LOL! 7:43

  • YES! I was at that wildlife park while visiting my mom's family a few years ago!

I love all your videos, and was especially happy to see the Australia videos! The bridge video was also a bit of a nice treat as a Mechanical Engineering student.

    Cheers, and G'Day!

  • What a funny-looking but lovable furry creature. The Koala's cute too.

  • @ELuhn HAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAA! The professor and the koala... The koala does the chemistry the professor knows, yet both look the same...

  • @ELuhn :O Oh no you di-unt

  • Koala: Bear or not, I don't care. Just give me FOOD!!!

  • Whoa we got the same hair!

  • Koalas actually are bears, if you want to be technical, in the sense that their taxonomical name literally means bear. The urban legend, ironically, is that koalas being bears is an urban legend.

Koalas belong to the Phascolarctidae family, the name literally translates as bear. While it is true that they are marsupials, not Ursidae (like proper bears) and thus are not directly related to them, if bear is a word used to describe a species, it IS just as valid when used on a Koala as a grizzly.

  • Look at is eyes and that single tooth at 1:45 while eating that leaf... it's almost evil!

And at 1:55 when he looks at the camera man with that close up... he was probably thinking... your next! Now that is definitely evil!

    Ahh... nervermind....

  • @YottaFlop Hmm... maybe it is thinking "sniff.... you don't have food for me. All I care is FOOD!"

  • @YottaFlop Hmm... maybe it is thinking "sniff.... you don't have food for me. All I care is FOOD!"

  • My Chem teacher showed us your video on Hydrogen. I just want to say... awesome hair! (And great vids, too.)

  • 1:54 I bet that Koala saw itself in the camera.

  • thumbs up for the ass cheek iching kangaroo at 4:11

  • This video really makes me wish I had a pet koala.... Hmm....

  • This video is adorable, I love it when these guys have fun.

(straight dude saying this) <3<3<3The Professor<3<3<3

  • It's hard to see the difference between the koala and his hair, somehow.

  • I have a vial of eucalyptus oil, at least it says on the label. It has an intoxicating sweet smell, quite the opposite of the professor's description. Why is that?

  • If someone corrects you for saying the phrase "koala bear", the proper response is to politely explain to them what a "colloquialism" is. (Crane-kicking them in the genitalia is optional but encouraged.)

  • I was under the impression that Tea Tree oil was the same as eucalyptus oil, is this right?

  • @yevonator88 Nope. Tea Tree oil is made from Melaleuca alternifolia. Distantly related to Eucalyptus, but definitely not the same.

  • @SilverWingedSeraph Thanks for that answer.

  • omg <3 KOALAS :D

  • they do live the life

  • Why doesn't he have a TV show?

He could be the Carl Sagan of Chemistry, why not?

  • @brilliantfranz He doesn't need a TV show. He has a YouTube channel! :)

  • Olbas oil and a bag of yokes

  • I really like how much the professor and koala look alike at 7:10

  • i wanna see the wallabies and see if they look like rocko from rockos modern life

  • ...that is c0rrect his name is bear,

~y0u named the little tyke first

    =she resp0ned, clearly; which is h0w the mammals ackn0wledge a "pet name"

  • The bear looks rather professorial methinks.

  • the professor kinda looks like a koala

  • Very good pronunciation of restaurant, lol.

  • @DavetheHillbilly i thought the same thing ahah

  • The rude person that said "The Koalas are not bears." to Martin should had his head kicked by Winston Churchil.

  • Aoooooh! they two got white hair 3:50

  • 1:50-@2:00 "Nom nom nom nom nom nom.... What the hell are you looking at?"

  • Well, if I were an animal, I wouldn't wanna eat explosive food either…

  • The ending was cute, haha.

  • i love kangaroos, they are so tasty :)

  • I

  • @nissimvas a prop koala ^.^

  • Yaaay for Perth!

  • Indigenous people in Australia rubbed crushed Eucalyptus leaves on their skin to repel flies and other insects. I tried this myself and it seems to work well. Bit smelly though.

  • @wasdom01 ALL HAIL THE KOALAS!

  • @ericfam01 :)

  • are you in Melbourne anytime??

  • He makes a big deal of not saying Koala bear, and yet the title says Koala bear...

  • @thenoodletheory I'm guessing, that was the point of the title ;)

  • @thenoodletheory It should be rather obvious that the title is a joke...

  • @themightychickens it should be, yes... but not to everyone!

  • come on people what other profesors do you know that hold koalas and feed the cangrues and at the same time do their job and the thing that they like and also he explains stuff very clearly i wish he was my teacher (im grade 11 and i have a chemisiry cours) but again that would be disrespectfull to him since he has a phd

  • they are 'wombats' that are arboreal, hence their pouch facing backwards, hinting at their evolutionary history and their common ancestory with wombats

  • I don't know why people outside Australia call them Koala bears
