I dont know why people love to make big deal with the name of the sea. There are a bunch of things that should be focused such as improvement of education, health care, means of transportation, and others. Things like that will not make the life of both people better.

Google it. Some English publications say Sea of Japan(East Sea). It was well known was Eastern Sea or East Sea but then after 19th century, Japan changed it to Sea of Japan. Russians call it Japanese sea, North Koreans call Korean East Sea, South Koreans call East Sea. Japanese call Sea of Japan. Google it.

Be logic,Indian Ocean is an old name and it's a ocean around India.Gulf of Mexico is set along the country of Mexico.And Korean straight as the same.The Sea of Japan is also another name along Japan which matches with the length of the geography.And original name was first described by Matteo Ricci in 1602 and then commonly spread out ｔo the world in early XIX NOT XX. The name was already established even a century before Russo-Japanese war.Don't make it wrong just because of silly nationalism.

@MrParapol be logic. the original name was not set by matteo ricci- it was first written as the sea of japan in matteo's map. before then (ex.1597 asia map drawn by westerners) it was written as 'the easter' or 'corea sea'. gulf of mexico is a different story. it's always been called that way. sea of japan is a name japan pushed around japanese imperial age. dont make it wrong just because of your ignorance.

I dont know why people love to make big deal with the name of the sea. There are a bunch of things that should be focused such as improvement of education, health care, means of transportation, and others. Things like that will not make the life of both people better.

and Generally, a country's name doesn't use for the sea name. and as like existed "North sea" which is located north of European continental near England, East sea is very natural name to this sea which is located east end of asia continental or all over the world.
Thus, East Sea is much more proper than CofJapan considering both Historically and International sea naming standard.

@MrParapol in our case of course it isn't true. yellow sea for example (btw korea and china). according to japan's geographical argument, technically it wouldn't be there if it wasnt for korea, so it should be named the sea of korea, no? no, that's a name that we agreed upon. sea of japan is an imperialistic name 'won' by japan after the russo-jap war which should be corrected!

Your grandpas and great grandfather's generation would be a good comparison. As a personal opinion, right now isn't the best time to anger Koreans. As a faithful Catholic, I believe Jesus was a miracle and a savior. The Crusades were but a dirty plan involved with politics than fighting for faith. Japanese cannot just bury this feeling which is VERY MUCH present in my generation too. I respect and honour the japanese people loyal and patriotic to their country. Had they been invaded like korea, there would have been figures like yoo-guan-soon or ahn-joong-geun, with no doubt. However, if you are TRULY patriotic to your country, you cannot depend on what your government insists of your knowledge of Japan.

Google it. Some English publications say Sea of Japan(East Sea). It was well known was Eastern Sea or East Sea but then after 19th century, Japan changed it to Sea of Japan. Russians call it Japanese sea, North Koreans call Korean East Sea, South Koreans call East Sea. Japanese call Sea of Japan. Google it.

@07090614 Yes, google is a good search engine. Also Wikipedia has a lot of information on it an NO where does it state that, "Japan changed the name." It does state that "Korea CLAIMS that Japan changed the name". It also list research done by BOTH sides and provides links to those who want to look at or compare the research.
