any album that begins with "I Saw Her Standing There" and ends with "Twist and Shout" has to be considered one of the all time pure rock n roll albums of all time.
The stereo remastered version of this CD is really crisp and all sounds are nicely separated. However, if you really want to hear the best stereo versions of these songs, you have to find an original STEREO copy of 'INTRODUCING THE BEATLES' on the VJ label. Just beware of counterfit copies, as the sound quality is terrible! The original STEREO VJ beatles records are very warm and bold sounding, without sounding too mushy, like many of the later Beatles Capital releases do.
@arthurbludgeon - If you have a chance to hear an early UK Parlophone pressing on vaccum tube equipment, there is nothing quite like it. Years back a friend of mind rewired two pairs of English Quad electostatic speakers and stacked them. He drove them with custom vaccum tubes amps, and a custom tube pre-amp. Using a Decca moving iron cartridge, he played an early pressing of PLEASE, PLEASE ME. It was stunning! You could get a sense of the physical dimensions of the Abbey Road Studio #2.
It is a proven fact that in remastering albums for CD the record companies are just playing a catch up game they will never win. They are trying to replicate, and or improve the sound that was released on original vinyl records. Vinyl just sounds better when compared to CD. These CD's do sound clearer than their 1987 counterparts. I applaud Apple and Capitol for these releases.
I totally disagree. I listened to vinyl since 1973 and the sounds of the remastered cds are far superior to vinyl. I recall long ago listening to recordings of CCR on vinyl and they are terrible. When they remastered these in 2000 they blew away the horrid sound of the old vinyl records. Also vinyl had the problem of warping, easily stractching and needing a dust cleaner to clean off all the dust they attracted. Don't miss vinyl at all !
Good point. I agree that the CD's sound better than the vinyl releases to a point. The older releases sound best in MONO. The 2009 remasters do sound clearer than most of the older Beatles records. The later albums sound amazing with the remastering. I got into vinyl 4 years ago. Nothing like the warm bold sound of a vinyl record. The snap crackle pop just gives the songs character. Vinyl records warp if stored improperly. Yeah CCR on vinyl record doesn't t sound quite as good as the remasters.
The Mono version of Anna sounds so much better. This stereo version is so far separated left and right there seems to have a hole in the middle. The vocals seem to have lost their impact. Give the mono version a listen and see what I mean.
The best Beatles album by a country mile! This is basically a live album, so raw, so energetic, the band are singing for their lives and their future career on this one. The culmination of 2 years slogging around in a van learning their craft. Later albums are more sophistacted but never as raw and honest as this. Brilliant!
True...And consider even still that, even after the #1 success of this album along with their first couple of #1 singles, they were STILL slogging around on tour in a beat-up old van and roughing it on the road and running themselves ragged between road and studio. Indeed, a VERY definate hunger can be felt within the 10 cuts they laid down during that grueling marathon session, as well as the four single sides that complete the album. A moment frozen in time!
Anna is a fantastic ballad, and Lennon sang it with pure blues in his voice. Well, the whole album is not only a Master Piece, but it started the revolution in rock-pop music. When one listen to this record (and have ears), one knows why. They sang and played here "till he cows came home". :D
