@deano386 Yes you can use any wood except cedar and make sure you wash it good. Personally when I get wood from the forest or mountains, I steralize it by boiling it in hot water over a stove fire for 1/2 hour than wash with soap and water, than toss it in the oven for 2-3 hours on about 200-250F (while standing by. Do not leave unattended) The wood gets a nice light brown color and gets really hard. Looks just like the driftwood you get from the petshops when its all done.
love the vivs man, some one at the pet store siad not to use the light on top on the exo terra tank becouse spiders dont like the light, is that true or can i use the light? as i like to see her but its hard when the lights are shut off 24/7 THANK YOU
@deano386 Its not entirely true. Tarantulas prefer darkness because its their nature to hide and darkness provides that sense of comfort but they do have light in their world regardless. In nature ther is sunlight and they do have the ability to perceive between light and darkness. Providing a light (controled) allows the T to have some naturalness to their environment. All my T's have had light and most actually like the light. Been doing it for 13 years.
@tommo4870 I use a variety of methods but the most used is with Great Stuff foam. Just spray a ball and cut out a hole. than reshape it to make it look like a cave. Cover with silicone and substrate and it looks natural. I show it in my other Enclosure creation tutorials.
wow love your LP setup. what type of wood is that? i'm gonna be redoing some enclsures and i wanna do something like this only in a ten\five gallon not an exo. any tips?
@arachnophile1995 The wood is just a branch from a tree like plant that grows locally. I prepare it with boiling and then a 3 hour oven treatment to ensure its steralized and kills harboring bacteria or critters. If you want to use a 10 gallon enclosure, take a look at the 2.5 gallon series of my enclosures. It would be the same process only bigger. On my channel I have all of the Enclosure creations in a Favorites catagory for easier navigating through all my creations.
That's nuts man.. gonna look and see if u have settings up vids!
My exo terras (redone them last night) has about 3/4 inches of substrate; a flowerpot soil cave and a water dish. Looks really dull though and neither is using the pot; ones jus webbing everything going around the sides (sub adult), and one is just sitting there (still juvenile). Wanna add some fake plants 4 dem 2 hide under..
any suggestions? Dont wanna make it too complicated, because one in patrticular is still quite smallish..
@RShahProductions I do have enclosure setup vids on Enclosure creations 9-15 (Vid 10 was removed). For all enclosures I have detailed threads in the Arachnoboards forum. Just type in Enclosure creations in the search and you will see instructions for all 15 in the series.
@talon4wd Sweet will do when I get time after revision :) Thanks man. Any suggestions on a few things to improve my set up or do you think it's adequate, with just one hide, a water bowl and a few plants, plus a load of substrate to dig in?
@RShahProductions That is all thats really needed. Tarantulas really do not need more than that. The custom enclosures are more for our pleasure than the tarantulas. It also depends on the particular species. Burrowers need to burrow, arboreals need height and terrestrials need more floor space. :-D
@talon4wd Yes thats what I remember because I always used to read up before I got them, but i thought i should have a recheck lol. And the plants will be two-fold, both for eye candy and something extra for the t.s :) What got me to really think tho was "/watch?v=ddDj6PNWnWo" - cuz there's so many complaints and although there were screw ups, I was surprised how many people acted like she poisoned the T!
@jonathanmarcelthome Thank you very much. I have a total of 15 different designs but did not do a tour of the remaining 7. But I did post footage on their construction in other videos and each one had a private tour.
Never ever had a problem...Yes take the existing scrren top and rip out the screen leaving only the plastic. Replace the screen with a plexi lid and glue it in with hot glue for crafts. Drill holes or insert vents.
I was hoping to make something similar in my 12x12x12 but was gonna ask, can you have a terrestrial T inside even with multi levels? Im new to Ts so Ill be getting a curly or pink zebra.
@nevilleblackphoto I have been doing it for years. It essentially make the enclosure have more floor space and variety. Also helps prevent falls from the height of enclosure.
@talon4wd Cool. I might do the same then. Youve never had a problem? They look amazing. Though I should make a plexi roofing though right? And are they in the 12x12x12 exo terras?
You inspired me. I have an Exo-Terra 12x12x12 for my G.Rosea, and a Exo-Terra 12x12x12 for my G.Pulchra. But my Pulchra is still just a sling, so I'm not using that. But I think I'm going to steal a litle bit of your setup's ;D
@johnbc62 What I do is rip out that screen and replace it with a custom cut acrylic/plastic sheet. (1/8") I hot glue it in place. The size is 10 1/4" x 10 5/8" Than drill a couple holes into it for ventilation
