  • Oooh. Unni has honed his voice and ability

  • Unnikrishnan is done w/his lifetime achievement, don't have to prove himself with some alaps or some +/- of his voice. Its all because of some humble human named A.R.Rahman !

  • Hey what the hell u care about my culture & brought-up. Look at your self chicken don't keep giving stupid comment in my Sangeetham god's video. And wat the hell u know a bout music, u should be born deaf. Petathic

  • Why are you so very bothered in degrading what so many people have been liking and listening to. Sounds foolish. Buffoons!?? ha ha, so i think we need to start with wave, sound, noise, rhythm, music and resonance for you goofball. Brand? well i dint use any ARR perfume this morning. Award!? most trivial one, FYKI i have been appreciating this for 17 years.

  • well said ...i back it up

  • Vaithia, please dont waste your time in arguing over these insane comments from the so called saviours of C music. None of us even have the slightest right to con comment on Rahman or his music. If someone does, it's dog barking at the sun, well u know wat it means....

  • Music is all around us ....how can it be different for you

  • Good question, turn around, I'll tell you.

  • what a voice, what a song, amazing!

  • Vairamuthu Rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • I LU UNNIKRISHNAN's VOICE!!!!!!!!

I wish he styll sang more film songs??

    =(

  • Vaithia, I am a keen and discerning listener of C music as well as sensibly composed cine music - by no means a great musician. This makes me eligible to comment. IT IS VERY TRUE MANY LADY AND MALE C(ARN). MUSICIANS HAVE IN THEIR AVARICE(with their overenthusiasm for cine crowds and the money) MADE C MUSIC BEREFT OF CREATIVITY AND MANY C.LISTENERS HAVE STOPPED PATRONIZING THEM. THAT IS ALL.

  • Awesome singing by Unni and ARR simply rocks with unconventional chords... Powerful and subtle when needed..

  • 2/2 But wjat MLV, MKT, TMS, etc.sang had a majority of their playback songs composed in great classical tunes properly orchestrated for films with background music. How many honestly say today's items are in any way better than the oldies, despite maybe the huge raucous set of instruments (badly) concerted together.TRUE TEST OF FINE FILM MUSIC IS WHETHER ILLITERATE VILLAGERS ENJOY HUMMING THE TUNES.They can't take players to fields.Unfortly, the tunes (incdg.ARR's)are UNHUMMABLE. Try yrself.

  • 1/2. It is of course any Carnatic musician's individual freedom to sing film songs. No argument about that. But some leading Carnaic musicians act as judges in cine music contests on TV, singing for films and serials. To anyone even with a reasonable minimum knolwedge of C. Music 90% of present cine tunes make him wonder what is all that. But leading c. musicians try to justify their going overboard on the film music side,by citing MLV ,MS and other Carnatic greats singing for films.

  • I too enjoy cine songs, but not of the present genre. Even in TV programs of film song contests predominantly old cine songs are preferred and sometimes the judges have made adverse comments on the meaningless tunes as well as the lyrics which titillate you but take you into the slums for their obscenities.(I had to sample from present genre, to write all this). I did not comment I am against cine music.C musicians shd.not patronize them (greed prevents!) unless the quality improves 1000%. Bye.

  • Wah film was dis song in?N wonderful singing by Uni

  • kadhalan

  • The best of Uni just love it ^_^

  • What concert was this?!

    Are there more videos?

  • awsome performance unni! u r great!

thnx 2 arr for superb song!

  • awesome...

  • V. In my ending instalment, IV, I made a mistake which could confuse readers. The typo was: CDO for VDO abbreviating video. Sorry for any inonvce.caused.

  • And once you work that hard, try listening to carnatic then... and see if you can concentrate...

Mor on.. Go have a life!!!

  • [Staying in India for some yrs.now.Also learning carn.music.] I agree vaithia, that bit al person can get relaxation after a hard day's work from listening to classical music. But if one does not have an natural/ 'inborn' feel of classical music, thats it, no one can change it.But in the West, many films and TV serials even nowadays make good use of properly adapted classical music combining both melody and harmony. In India, I hear that ARRahman's film tunes are un-hummable, I have not heard.

  • CORRECTION i SENTENCE: I agree vaithia, that NOT ALL PERSONS can get relaxation after a hard day's work from listening to classical music. If one does not have etc. etc.

  • You have no right to call another commentaor moron since you do not share his/her own perceptions in the matter. Light and cine music is better as a pastime. Classical music triggers the creative faculties of more than ordinary people.

  • IV. END. GIVEN THE UNIVERSAL DEGENERATION OF BOTH CINE AND CLASSICAL MUSIC DUE TO THIS INTERBREEDING, VAST MASSES HAVE GROWN WITHOUT HALF A CHANCE TO TELL GOOD FROM BAD MUSIC. I won't be surprised, in view of this degenerate state of things, my coments on this CDO will soon be marked spam.

I pray with all my heart, the past glories of Tamil cine world will soon be soon rejuvenated even with Carnatic musicians honing skills for classical concert and light pgms.(innovating without desecrating).

  • III.typo in II::miscegenation (not, miscenation). PLEASE NOTE THAT SINCE CLASSICAL MUSICIANS DUE TO THEIR GREED STRAY (acting as judge in TV film music pgms.,for ex.) INTO MEANINGLESSLY COMPOSED TAMIL FILM MUSIC OF TODAY, CARNATIC 'MUSICIANS' ARE DOING A GREAT DISSERVICE TO C.MUSIC BY MAKING EVEN LISTENERS OF IT, NEGLECT PURE C.MUSICIANS SINCE CLASSICAL TASTE IS HURT BY present genre of cheap SERIALS AND FILMS THAT KEEP MASES ALL THE TIME AT THE BOTTOM, NOT ELECVATING THEM TO CLASSICAL GRADE.

  • But just because unadulterated carnatic exists... You cannot say cini songs like this cannot exist... Because there are a sect of people who listen to these songs during their daily work and get rid of their tensions.. If you really work your brain out nuts everyday from 9 AM to 8 PM, and you want something to keep you undistracted, it is the cini melodies that help.. Try first working that hard instead of critiquing on good songs..

  • I think that before my replying to you, subsequent comments like those of lsjtifo and balumuthu, taken together, have amplified broadly what I wanted to say. BTW, constructive criticism, or at least criticism offered with a spirit of being constructive, is, I suppose, not bad at all.

  • Well to start with, most part your criticisms were not constructive at all --> For example:

    1) small no.of listeners approve Unni's sacrifice of classicism -

Well, this is just cooked up stats. I did go and attend a cini music concert by Unni and he had a really huge audience in a live concert in a foreign country and everyone enjoyed his performance. That apart, there is a huge fan base for his voice in cini music. Carnatic is a medium that reaches only selected few who have the ear for it

  • I belong to that not very fortunate people who do not have the ear and I still think that these cini songs are worth listening more than carnatic which I cannot comprehend.

  • 2) intermarrying, asses marrying horses -- So which among those music did you call the "Ass"??? You might think Carnatic is better for your ear... But that does not warrant you to start comparing Cini music to "asses". These things hurt sentiments!

  • MEANINGLESSLY COMPOSED TAMIL FILM MUSIC OF TODAY???

Again.... I really like to reiterate that it is a matter of taste... You cannot call today's film music meaningless... I really dont know if you are some great carnatic musician who can comment.. But if not, I am sorry dude... It is not upto you to call things meaningless... Every music has its own subtleties. Even Cini does... Not every cini song gets appreciated.. becomes a hit... It takes really good effort to make good cini music

  • And people work hard in every field to produce good music. Be it carnatic or cini.. So please do not make generalizations and start making cini music as inferior music for infidels.

I am sorry that my temper made me call you names.. But in the end, what made me lose my temper were your anologies that very keenly pointed out Carnatic as the only superior truth and other forms of music as totally meaningless.... I am not arguing anymore on this. But dude.. Try and look outside too...

  • There are way too many people enjoying what Unni is doing to the Cini field.. And if you think he is blundering classical, you can simply choose to avoid his classical concerts. In any case, it does not make a huge difference to unni because there are still people left who think he is good enough at carnatic who will go and watch his concert.. And even if the entire carnatic community thinks he is bad, he has enough audience for his cini renderings. I for one like him for making me feel light!

  • II. BUT LET ME ADD. There has been a long tradition in both Western and Indian (both Hindi and S Indian) films,to tap classical music's full potential, which seems to be beyond even today's most popular film music composers. If they no longer can continue to tap thus, they shd.let Classical and film music and singers go their separate ways, and not kill our cultural traditions by miscenation (intermarrying, asses marrying horses?)

  • Excuse me culture freak.. Art is something which gives joy and enjoyment to its contemporary people.. Art works because of the patronage of people.. And art must reflect the needs and desires of the people... If you want unadulterated carnatic music to listen to... Go listen to it...

  • Not just human beings, but even a number of animal species have an ear for music, meaning not necessarily classical music. But among humans, who says everyone should, or will have the capacity to listen to cl. music or the endurance to sit through and critically appreciate classical music concerts lasting 2 to 3-1/2 hours. However, I too am convinced classical musicians (like the one in this vid) should not sing a cine or TV serial song if every part of the tune is a murder of 'raga purity.

  • lsjtifo, there is a hint that since "some animal species" (snakes, cows, for ex.) can appreciate any musical sounds and get disturbed by noises, most human beings who can only appreciate lighter or diluted musical sounds, are also like those animals! Clever. But this is not the context anyway for comparison of lDabba and classical types of music.

  • I think that before my replying to you, subsequent comments like those of lsjtifo and balumuthu have amplified broadly what I wanted to say.

  • It defies understanding, why film music and C music can be so disharmoniously combined. Film music can resort to titillation only to a small extent and yet sell hot by not killing the melody and rhythm with instruments that do not blend naturally. Nor do those small no.of listeners approve Unni's sacrifice of classicism to stray into film music, since by doing so, the superb glory of C music is prevented in its role of elevating masses to classes.

  • omg......

  • ithu swargama part at 2.56 min is lovely with the chords and then afterwards he has sung very nicely.

  • He has the Best Voice it hits your Heart

  • Only Unni ..his voice is jus simply amazing.. soooooo sharppp and it jus hits u .. and u get lots when he sings and jus listion to his voice... and wonder ppl can sing like dat =S ..jus amazing...

  • True kajenS, i used to imagine his voice with oru kind of soft twinkling tune that always get me carried away with his voice so much, its really amazing, but pity, not much of his voice can be heard nowadays.

  • yes very sad, about the fact his voice is not heard now days ..

  • Rahman is KING !

  • though he is a good singer, his voice is vibrating too much on stage...that could be partly due to stage singing which is trickier than studio singing.

  • Even with the little piece it seemed like he lacked confidence as opposed to be free flowing. He was pretty close to being off scale in a few place.

I love unni but this is one of the real ordinarier pieces I've seen from him !

  • there is nothing wrong ...the recording/quality of this video is not so good ...thus mistaken...his voice isn't shaking nor was he off scale ..

  • lol, yeh he was not close to be off pitch in any part of this song.

  • Unniiiiiiiiii wow.

u simply mesmerize my whole family with ur voice.

  • loveeee himm!!

  • whta voice,, nd should thanks to arr

  • UNNI is superb! And charming...he used his voice projections perfectly.

    Thanks for this video.

  • great a r rehman
