  • how can you not love them?

  • check out the shirtless goose doing shrugs. what a chest. and his head is no picnic either.

  • If bands had 1/10th of the passion these guys had our music scene would be so much greater.

  • good call man

  • he never said he was.

  • do you have that much energy for things, or just against them?

  • ah they speak sense, was a cool video cheers!!

  • Fugazi always makes me feel guilty or not good enough or something. They have a sort of shaming thing they do.

  • In which case you have completely missed their point.

  • Unless you can elucidate me, you have also. What is this point I'm missing, Ms. War Pig?

  • Could you elaborate one why they make you feel guilty and not good enough? And no I'm not shaming you for how you feel at all.

  • Feelings are not rational. "Why" I am feeling such-and-such a way is something I'll try to field. When a bunch of musical entertainers mix politics and social commentary into their entertainment product, it's something akin to what Christians do with so-called Contemporary Christian Music. You feel kind of tricked into listening, then this message is slipped in. The message seems to be kind of heavy and un-musically fun. I don't want them to stop what they do--Fugazi will always be this to me.

  • That is your view, fine. I feel however Fugazi mix politics and music with a complete opposite outcome to what you feel. But hey.

  • i understand your frustrations.. I think you would be more akin to the Steve Albini approach to lyrics.. often his lyrics were nonsensical or silly in a dark way, because he believed rock should be kept simple and stupid (i mean that in a good way).. In the case of Fugazi, I never felt they were too preachy. Musically they had enough going on to keep me interested.. and especially in the case of this song, i think they liked the tradition of dub/reggae music as a means of protest music.

  • @kc7fys real musicians say exactly what they want to say hands down. Fugazi aren't there for your listening enjoyment they have their own passions

  • @AZAvsAZB Why do they perform concerts in public?

  • There I am being shamed for missing the point and feeling ashamed. Not to out myself--but I am feeling a lot of White Male Guilt now. But the burn feels so... so Fugazi.

I caught these guys in 93 or so in Olympia, WA. The oft-repeated ritualistic "Expulsion Of An Errant Audience Member" portion of the show was particularly powerful. "Sir! Sir! Do you have a problem? Sir!? Why are you jostling that woman? Please leave the show, sir!" And being escorted out and refunded. Priceless.

  • It seems as if Ian couldn't find the words to describe rape.

    I couldn't either don't get me wrong.

  • sure this is in Manchester? the interviewer with the "emulate" question is Australian.

  • Maybe it's Manchester, Iowa. Most likely, yeah.

  • i thought it was called indie puck not fucken emo, thats a gay name, lol. fugazi is one of the only band never to sell out and still have a big fan base till this day, by people and musicians alike.

  • Fugazi is the greatest band, Suggestion is the greatest song.

  • thanks for posting this. I love this band. it seems really weird to be loving the band years after the split but the passion and the non-bullshit attitude is never gets old.

  • 17 years ago i saw them at Manly and sydney when they were younger.Very Powerful shows and Powerful Music.

  • You would never hear bands of today talk like this. Bands today just think of us as money. We are not humans to them. That is why Fugazi is the best

  • believe me, it might be a few but there are bands who do stuff because they have to and treat their audience as humans.

  • soo stunning...

  • fugazi is fuckin fugazi fuckin awesome and they re not "emo" that term its just wrong!

  • i know they're not emo

  • fuck emo! and fuck you! to use emo and fugazi in the same sentence is fucking misguided, and totally fucking lame. you have no business, at all, listening to music. FUCK EMO!

  • harsh

  • that's harsh

  • reality is usually harsh

  • maybe theres to much "reality", if you think about it we make reality harsh so that guy doesnt have to be mean and if emo got someone here to FUGAZI then "emo" served a purpose in their life and its a step

  • fair enuff...i don't really even listen to fugazi OR emo, whatever that is...kind of a scarlatti man meself...tho the +2 seems to indicate a few like-minded individuals appreciated my wry and pithy comment

  • theres room for everybody :) opinions make us think

  • like i say emo doesn't exsit!!!

  • Harsh

  • you my fiend are the misguided one. i felt like writing a explanation about where the whole emo nonsense comes from. Then thought you may already know because you like fugazi. then thought "well if he/she/it knows already, why the fuck is it getting so wound up?" which led me to the conclusion that you should just maybe not let it piss you off so much and should, Shock! Horror! GROW UP! and stop being suck a fuckwit and stop insulting people. I await your childish response in anticipation. X

  • I like the whole outlook that music is played buy and enjoyed by music fans, Mackaye always hits the nail on the head!!!

  • Yeah, the overdub ruins it

  • why'd they have to overdub it?

  • they probably didn't have audio equipment suited for the high volume, or nothing connected to the PA. Then you end up with shit sound. So you have to make a choice, shit sound, or good but not live sound.

  • fugazi were the only band on Dischord that toured in the U.K

they're indie rock just like Pixies, dinosaur Jr, Sonic youth, The replacements, Hüsker Dü Big Black and R.E.M that tour in the U.K

  • your wrong there MCATLING i saw shudder to think in nottingham in the early nineties, and they were a wicked discord band.

  • ok thank you for that

    i didn't know

    thank you

  • As others have noted, this is live footage wrapped around the track from 13 songs. I have been looking high and low and have not found a single good Fugazi video on youtube. Anyone want to point me in the right direction?

  • there are no fugazi videos per se. they never made videos. plenty of great live footage. just search for Fugazi....

  • sure, buy the INSTRUMENT dvd from dischord. well worth the price; best live videos ever

  • Democracy....where the minority's voice is not heard.

  • Fuck yeah.

  • LOVE the bass

  • This is the clip that got me into Fugazi back in the late '80s. Looking back now, they all look so young.

  • yeah that god damn dubbage... should have used the real deal. live fugazi is ALWAYS better. more intense and heartfelt

  • am I the only one to notice that the live footage is edited around the audio from the studio recording on the EP and 13 Songs? it is unmistakable. enjoyed the commentary, though.

  • they always did that on snub tv, remember naplam death being on it, same thing

  • heh, i was wondering why ian looked so different... hair!

  • Fugazi are the best and most influential punk/rock band ever. Forget the sex pistols and all that rubbish. This is real punk.

  • Hear Hear.

  • What the hell are you babbling about. Obviously british and american punk differ I think youre missing the point if youre going about it like that. Ian wouldnt like you to diss the elders of his profession.

  • oh shut up.

  • guy was just on backing vocals at this point

  • ians tight

  • the best band ever

  • Dubed, why?

  • Awesome footage. thanks.

  • are they a 3 piece at this point?

  • yeah, fugazi is THE best band ever. amazing.

  • oh nm

  • Ian MacKaye is a bona fide genius and "Suggestion" is one of the most important songs ever. Saw them 7 times at Newcastle Riverside; perfect on every occasion.

  • im the azn dude in glasses going off in the audience. completely blown away to see myself 20 yrs ago out of the blue! i went to this show with that dude Laurence who sang for that band SINK for a while. and Aaron Hegarty who used to sell american hc records in a shop near the flyover on portobello road. and i think Ed Shred from SINK & THE STUPIDS was with us too (if anyone reading this knows those dudes, ask them to get in touch with me!) ah to be a young harDCore freak living in london again

  • I was at this gig as a very nervous 16 year old. Didn't know anything about Fugazi (they were middle of the bill), and was blown away. Beatnigs were amazing also. Oh and it was upstairs at the Boston Arms, not a Klub Foot. Cheers for the clip!

  • Brilliant band; saw them live in Manchester in the early 90s and was deaf for a week in one ear :D
