Opening riff to this is one of the heaviest and doomiest riffs ever written. Genius tune, incredibly dark tune in which P.Steele wishes for death. His wish came true. Hope he's resting in peace.
type o has been around for a long time but people tend to forget about them.its a shame for anyone not to at least listen once.i met pete at a sheetz in pa.& i must say he was as nice as he was big.r.i.p.peter steele.
So much regret, pain an brutal honesty forced into one phenomenal track. I knew it would quickley become one of my favourite songs when I first listened to it.
This song goes great with a bowl of raisin nut bran at night right before bed...makes a damn good lullabye too by Peter. Try it folks... prolly great by a fire too but i live in the Souah my eyes getting sleepy...zzzzzzzzz
Anyone have any live versions of white slavery or was it ever performed live anyone know? I'm curious if Pete could carry the low notes live...i could imagine it to be a powerful performance leaving an awed and stunned crowd in its wake.
A quote from their October Rust album: "Functionless art is tolerated vandalism. We are the Vandals" Where did they come up with that stuff??? BTW , this album is in my opinion their finest hour!
One year I got a Nasferatu, from my Dad for Christmas unexpectedly, well, I found that didn't work to my liking, then I wound up with a Walock for ten yrs. I think it's time to leave Dad alone.
Samatter of fact I doubt if any of you round here actually understand most of this cd, you probably think it's all about sex and love, Pete was and is the relative mentor and on Metallers hitting it of your chick converser, buy an apple to find out why, duhhh?
@63AIONSON It's easy to understand the ideas of this great Music when You happen to suffer, and be a victim of Circumstance all all cuz of others Problems You at least tried to dodge but failed due to that other Persons unsatisfactory.
Has been my favorite song since I got this CD when it first came out (when my neighborhood friend ordered me this for free under those old "Buy 12 CDs for one cent" things with BMG music). I wasn't expecting the album to be real good...hell I only had 20 metal CDs in my collection then and only knew TON from the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Nice suprise...classic album. The best TON imo next to Bloody Kisses and Dead Again.
This is the most crushing piece of evil ever unleashed on earth. Good blend, not fake-metal, not"death" metal - but elements of it all chugged out with sludgy perfection.
@xoninmuoshda The word "dope" was just used to describe Type O Negative. Sir I believe you are in the wrong genre. I believe Lil Wang and 50 mm are your areas of expertise. And in case you are too dumb I was making fun of Lil Wayne and 50 cent.
at first, when I was younger, I thought he was singing about... capitalism, society... the slavery that affects you no matter your color....even white... heheh
later I got the real thing... a real bad hangover of cocaine
Is it just me or is the entire "World Coming Down" album perfect for kickin' back & drinkin' a few. God, I hate you Peter...off to a better place & left us all here without hardly enough of your crappy music to keep us all sane! ;)
@pdeere436 -I know right. ..& sadly they call themselves fans. Just so the world of Negative understands...I fucking love Type O & Peter, To Death....*rolls eyes*-I apologize some of you miserable dickheads couldn't catch my humor!
This song makes me sad because it reveals peters soul and we are able to see and feel the pain, despair and anguish he carried with him. What a beautiful tragedy this song is. What a beautiful tragedy his life was~ Petrus had a very old soul and he still amazes me with his haunting voice and deep knowledge of what life and reality really is. It is so easy to connect with TON....Missing you peter today and always.
Pete knew man. He knew. He never forced his addiction on anyone else and he was brutally honest. I am a bit angry he did what he did but it's like what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immoveable object. Pete knew and although I am not happy with his decision, there are some people that just know too much. God rest your tired soul, Pete. You are missed terribly.
goodbye peter you was right...everything dies...except some kind of dreams, and you certainly knew what i am talking about...thanks for your music, thanks for your poetry...see you on the other side...
@sinfulman667 I had considered trying it at one point, but in all honesty Peter was a friend of mine, and after his death I became militantly against it. Any of that shit is bad for you.
I think that there is a part in us that wants to believe that he is still alive because of the connection that his music has to our souls, and its hard to accept that we will never get to see TON in concert again...Best days of my life
Everything he says here is true about coke, once it's tested you are infected. I tested it one time, and since then I have been infected. Every lyric here is true...I don't do coke now for this exact reason. Pete himself said to learn by his mistakes. This dude was about the most real person you could meet. Dare I say it, he is the Alanis morrisette of doom sludge. He speaks of true experiences and hauntingly too real. God I miss ya Pete. Rest in peace man, and thanks for the honesty.
@punishedexistence ya coke fucking sucks....i was trapped in a lonely, cold, surreal fucked up hell for a year straight shooting it up .....never again, and i hadnt touched it when this came out, maybe 4 years later but i always thought of this song during this time
i once had an near fatal od on coke...it's like you're in flames, all you feel is pain and misery, sweating all over, tremors, heavy chest pain etcc....never did it again after that..cocaine is a bitch..r.i.p peter steele
@nederwiet1 did you shoot or sniff? ya no coming back from a coke OD, not like H, damn i had some scary times but not like that damn is that what happens
@MrsPersephone1980 Excellent drummer, but he doesn't actually play on this. Josh admitted a couple of years ago that "October Rust," "World Coming Down" and "Life is Killing Me" were all done with a drum machine.
@doctorx3 A friend of mine has a small band and a recording studio, and after talking to him I can completely see why a band would use a machine for recording. It's a lot more efficient and cheaper. 16+ hours of studio time plus 8+ mics and a track for each drum that has to be layered into the recording vs 2-4 hours with a drum machine.
Was fortunate enough to see them when they were at Bogart's in Cincinnati, OH. Any band that plays the Chicken Dance for 45 min. before coming on stage, and still has hundreds of fans packed in a general seating venue stick around is beyond amazing. Never will be a band in our future to be this REAL and stay true to the FANS. R.I.P. Peter.....Your memory will live on in my CD player.....
The thing that gets me is, this song to me is the darkest and eeriest of them all. And its about Peter's addiction to cocaine, which is what more than likely caused his heart failure. That gives it a really dark edge. Great song.
Miss you Peter. You helped me through alot of hard times in the marines and the transition to civillian life. Thank you and take care whrerever you are
TON used to depress me -- Bloody Kisses seemed a soundtrack to a meltdown. But then I grew up. Now listening depresses me only slightly for a legitimate reason, there will be no more great albums (unless unreleased stuff, cough cough).
i cant even listen to anything from world coming down now without wanting to cry. pete was the reason i sing. TON helped me through so many hard times. i wanted to cry when i got the news of petes death. i never met him but it was a dream of mine, he seemed like such a beautiful person. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BAND LIKE TYPE O NEGATIVE AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PETER STEELE. R.I.P PETER YOU WERE A LEGEND AND GIANT AMONG MEN.
This is one of the darkest songs of TON along with Haunted. I never got to see them live... that makes the title of the song "The Dream Is Dead" something true for me. RIP Peter... BTW, it's just me or somebody else got the feeling that Peter's still alive? I dunno... it's like crazy, maybe I'm feeling this because of what happened in 2005 with the picture of the webpage... Also there are no news on the page about the cause of death or memorial services... It's just strange...
I think this time there's no hope for a cynical joke or sth like that. TON management already confirmed Pete's death - and the four guys were not the kind of persons who repeated their jokes over and over again. This time, it's fucking reality.
@CoTeCiOtm Let's try to "HOPE" that he isn't,but I think it's over for him. I still fucking hate it,but that's what life is and he knew it with his songs! It would be a fucking blessing to me if he appeared on tv or another live show, but ,I think the shit has hit the fan for him really:( Really sad,but true,I believe:( I still miss him and it sucks!!!!!
@CoTeCiOtm Yeah, man. I saw him this past October at a local club in Jersey. The band was awesome as always, but Peter sounded better than he has before since he sobered up, or at least tried to. I'm not quite sure how much longer he wanted to keep recording music and touring. It's sad to say, but it's probably best it turned out this way for him, as much as I didn't want him to die.
@CoTeCiOtm i still think that peter is alive... its not a "joke" this time, i just think he wanted to disappear from the public eye. i don't think he would kill himself, and i don't think that he died of natural causes or an overdose.. i never knew him but its a feeling i get.
my fave off the world coming down you can just hear the depression in darkness in both his voice and the music and lyrics rip peter i saw them twice what a band all i can say is what a band
This is the only doom/dirge band I've ever loved. It takes a great deal of talent to play this slowly and still remain melodic and "musical", so to speak. Great tune.
Iv heard the name of this band before but somehow never had time to check wot kond of music is it ...... Then i read somwhere about death of this guy from this band and there wos a link to one of their songs it wos wolf moon...It wos yesterday today since early morning im listening them all time. This is really good.Bit remind me of Paradise Lost but i think they sounds diffreant..better.I think death of singer its a lose of a great voice.
2 people have lost themselves again... I hope Mr. Steele may forgive them.

Pete, we miss you, brother!

@CoTeCiOtm i still think that peter is alive... its not a "joke" this time, i just think he wanted to disappear from the public eye. i don't think he would kill himself, and i don't think that he died of natural causes or an overdose.. i never knew him but its a feeling i get.

This is the only doom/dirge band I've ever loved. It takes a great deal of talent to play this slowly and still remain melodic and "musical", so to speak. Great tune.
