When I was in primary school in Cork in the 1940s I remember a Chistian Brother ('Brother Oliver), one of my favourite teachers ever, teaching us to sing this lovely song. I never dreamed then that I would move to Wales in 1960...
Thank you for giving me back that memory of a good day in school...
As a child I watched his films on T.V. As I grew the more I learned about him the more I respected him. Schools should teach children about Paul Robesons life.
Reggarding the ads on YouTube, if you really can't stannd them, get off of the tube and go to a page where you pay for the music and without as many choices ! I've found music here that isn't available any other place.
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but Youtube is slowly being ruined!!! They've got ads before the videos and after the video. They have popup ads on the videos which you have to close and even then they still cover the bottom of the video. If that wasn't bad enough, they now got a popup on THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN and I can't close it. If I want to watch the video again, I can't because it'll go another video automatically. I'm getting sick of it!
Note his absolutely clear phrasing. No other voice like this. And, yes, Proud Valley is undeservedly obscure: the greatest bass of the 2oth century singing with a Welsh men's choir.
@libertango100 Who cares, considering the treatment he received in the US. There is still no one who can sing Old Man River and I doubt there ever will be.
There is a very good biography written about him. Perhaps you should read it.
A most talented man in all respects

I love this man, love his singing. If being a socialist means putting human beings concerns as more important than corporations, I'm a socialist too.

@99collie88; Thanks, I am reading him.
To me , his tone is of one whom suffered injustice during his childhood-- which made him so famous...

Paul Robeson is magnificent! Many thanks for posting! (I think he has also recorded All through the night in Welsh)

He seems to have taken a shine to Wales during a visit to the UK after his passport had been restored to him. He also recorded "Land of Our Fathers".

Paul Robeson was a great friend of the Welsh People, even before WWII. Try to see the film, Proud Valley.
