Linda was one of the artists like Elvis Presley who just knew how to take another singer-songwriter's song and just work it into a classic. Zevon's original is excellent but Linda -- well, she helped introduce Zevon's music by having this incredible hit on his behalf. To criticize Linda for covering this song would deny Warren Zevon a wider audience which I am sure he got -- once his name was associated with this song with people who didn't know his talent.
