Try using spa anti foam in your electrolyte you can pick at any home center I use 1/8 of a teaspoon no more foam and does not seem to effect production of gas .
I had that foam problem too... the foam come from using KOH or NaOH. The problem is if you cell and or gaskets haves traces of any kind of organic compond (oil, fingerprint, etc) when in contact with those caustic stuffs turns immediatly to soap. So when you start the electrolysis it produce tiny bubble of oxygen and Hydrogen, as you all probably know...! Guess what happens when Oxygen strike with soap? A bubble bath my friend!! But I didnt figure this out alone, my friend chemist did!
use sodium hydrxide also pasing bubbles threw a screen or the spong like air conditioner filters converts them to big bubble also passing it threw a very small hole at the cell exaughst might help pop the micro bubble and i think when the fliud level becomes not low but displaced by gas in the cell it is prone to micro bubbling also if the electrode array is not entirly submersed the serfice tension may induce micro bubbles check out NOBOX7 videos one shows drain cleaner naho ...
use epdm gaskets and KOH they work great together! do not waste your time with white vinigar or baking soda.. also the smaller the gap between plates the more foam you will get. but MMW drops.. scott
the problem you are experincing is the potasium hydroxide, the is the second reason it doesnt make the perfect electrolyte. The first reason is it is very costic, and burns the skin!!! I recomend using a strong vinigar{white}this is a acid but you should not experiance any foam, I dont think so anyways...the whole idea is to fine the perfect electrolyte that {a}wont seperate like sodium cloride {salt}will.{b}one that is safe to use like baking soda, and can be found in any grocery store.citricacid?
Lots of good ideas. Thank you to everyone. I tried acetone and it works for a day. Then i changed gaskets and that has worked so far. I have also added an inlet and outlet port on both sides of the mini drycell and I am amazed at how it keeps the cell flooded at all times. I havent seen a downside to it yet. I will post a video soon to show the changes. Thanks again to everyone.
Not so fast. The foam is caused from the heat.Water starts to steam at approx. 140 F. We are able to run our drycells at 22-24 amps hours on end at a constant 110-115 degrees with less than a 2 oz of water after 6 hrs! You must rig up a mini radiator and install a 12 volt fan (from computer) to cool it. Problem though is finding a radiator, or heater core, or transmission cooler that isn't made of aluminum or copper which basically disolves in KOH. I am HHO Builder and installer ready to share.
Just to confirm is the same trouble I had , if you change the electrolyte the problem seems to be gone ,but return a few hours later, even if you dont use the cell.
I found out the rubber of my gaskets was not appropriate for alkaline use, and contaminates the electrolyte with organic acids, making soap with the KOH ( or NaOH) After carefully checking the characteristics of each rubber type , I found natural rubber works with NAOH made new gaskets and the cell is OK now hope that helps
I only use KOH. I have used it for around 6 months on my wet cells and never had foam. Only with this dry cell and only after 3 days of running it on and off. i am not sure what skype is? I am very interested to know though.
if you are getting real bad foam either you have contaminates on your plates or in your electrolyte mix..Or the electrolyte you are using is not pure..I suggest using Roebic sodium hydroxide crystals , its 99% pure...
i am starting to notice a pattern, where those who complain about foam are using KOH and others who dont encounter it use NaOH. Mabye its time for a new electrolyte!
i use 40 grams of NaOh ,my NaOh is 99% pure ,In 4.5 liters of distilled water, i ran my cell for 4 hours doing testing and never had foam in it temperature at its maximum was 115 f .
You can try using a pot scouring pad as the filter on the exhaust port or the top of the cylinder they wrk great.

i just tought of the following: why not use the foam and burn it (will not be working with a torgue but maybe you can burn it on a hot surface ?!
skipperlefl 1 year ago
@skipperlefl Next time i get foam i am going to ignite it and see what kind of heat i get from it.

floating baby oil on the top of your bath
protects your electrode terminals and
mitigates foaming. your main problem
is koh a pump would help copper auto heater cores are naho safe but dont use
aluminum. cooling also reduces foam
cores

i noticed that when i added some engine coolant to the reservoir, the foam was gone. i am still experimenting...

swimming pool defoamer removes the foam imedeatly once it gets to your bubeler.
thats easyer than rebuilding your cells.

smartscarecrow of the EBN group has made comments on this problem, ultrasonics seem to do the job, watch his Q & A vids

I will be getting a pump and rad in the near future. I agree its a good idea.

That is the type of info i was looking for. You are awsome and you have been a huge help. Anything i can ever help you with let me know! Thanks!

Whats your gap measurement ? sometimes when going under 1/16" it will make foam that way to..
