being a certified crane operator i have operated those types of boom trucks they are just as safe as a counterweighted crane if operated properly and set up properly. this was done by a hack that had no reason to be at the controls of that piece of equipment
It is still a crane, since it's designed to pick up a load from above.
This would be a Truck-Mounted, Hydraulic Boom, Crane.
1910.180(a)(3)
A "truck crane" consists of a rotating superstructure with powerplant, operating machinery and boom, mounted on an automotive truck equipped with a powerplant for travel. Its function is to hoist and swing loads at various radii.
It might not have had a counterweight, but that doesn't mean it's not a crane!
No counterweight needed although there is probably one under the bed plus the weight of the truck. What I think happened was the the outriggers were not extended out. They look as if they were placed straight down. The truck probably flipped when the boom was extended without a load. I can't believe the operator didn't know to extend the outriggers. Un-friggering-believable. The truck cost 300,000 now totaled.
boom trucks have no counterweight period. it is a lever principal that is why their outriggers are almost twice as long as a regular counterweighted crane. how do i know this because i am a NCCCO certified crane operator,certified for large and small hydraulic cranes as well as lattiuce boom crawler and truck cranes if you setup right and stay within the load chart this will not happen unless a hole opens up under one of the outriggers.
If you look on the websites for the boom truck maker you will find that some boom trucks do have a counter weight inside of the torque box under the bed.

at :55 someone says
7 old bras 7 o sky boards
but you have to turn your volume up high

@01silky1
@ :36 "Looks like he was lifting some re-bar or something, I don't know..."
He was zoomed in on what looked like a bundle of reinforcing steel bar that looked like it had been dropped.
@ :57: "7-0 Broward, 7 Skyforce"
This happened in Broward county, and it was probably the channel 7 tv chopper.
This is correct syntax for the chopper pilot (7 Skyforce) to call the ground station (7-0 Broward) using their designated call signs.
( I like the 7 old bras better though! ;)

you know that's what i was thinking.
i'm not a crane operator, but i you know your machine, and it's limits. shit like this should never happen.
who trains these guys, and who would hire someone so irresposible. it's stupid, and unforgivable, people could get killed for nothing

@700kotchi
Nope, not German, but thanks for the compliment!
Do I understand you to say that you are humping a dead crane? That's an odd form of Necrophilia. Mechano-Necrophilia?
Well, I try not to judge people, so to each his own!
Don't forgot to practice safe humping, you know, wear a hard-hat and steel toed boots since it's a construction zone...
