Benny wasn't gay. He proposed to several women in his lifetime. Sadly, he was rejected. I think he lacked personal social skills. He seemd like an Asperger type. I don't think he was "against" homosexuals, he was just un-pc.
Benny was always pushing the envelope and was not PC. This is what made his show such a hoot! This was from his first Thames show in 1969 and quite daring for the times although the UK was more liberal in what was on television that the US was.

I remember seeing a different "Wishing Well" skit on "Benny" where the old woman drops a coin in, then the old man turns young, then the young man drops a coin in and the old woman turns into a gorgeous young blonde woman then the blonde drops a coin in and turns herself into a young man, too, and the two young guys walk off arm in arm.
If anyone has a clip of that one, please send it to me! The gorgeous young blonde was amazing.
