  • Hey, we have it better than that the japs

  • Comment removed

  • this is awesome

  • Yeah, this is kind of an "elevator music" version of the theme, a bit slow for my taste. But it is cute and swing-y and sparkly. So yes, very nice!

  • i wanna see the boston pops so bad but i live in MD

  • I'm familiar with the Super Mario theme in its original 8-bit variation, but there's something about the orchestral version that screams out "This could have been a 1950's game show theme."

  • 10 people walked into a goomba.

  • okay this is just ....amazing. thank u for uploading it

  • its the music god plays to gamers after they die and are going up the escalator to heaven

  • 9 ppl must be a sober as a kid

  • @colourfulwithaU I agree but they need to be a tad louder

  • i feel like im in a elevator..... js.

  • most musical use of wood block i know of

  • i am not in a elevator ? lol

  • I feel like I'm in a fancy hotel or something.

  • i want to be a plumber when i grow up

  • Hey, you morons who think this is an Orchestra need to shut up. No, Orchestras AREN'T "badass". No, the strings don't "make this". This is a SYMPHONY. The whole SYMPHONY made this. Wind AND strings.

  • Comment removed

  • @AustinDaStarWarsGeek You best look up the definition of orchestra. Orchestras normally include woodwinds, brasswinds, and percussion instruments. Also, a symphony is a TYPE of composition that has three or more movements. But not everyone can be a music major.

  • @YuriStojakovic Well said, thanks

  • Wow this is great!

  • @GamingMasterErnest Agreed! :D

  • heaven...

  • trombone, tuba and (maybe baritone) make up the under ground theme

  • I'm moving home to Boston after what will be ten years away on June 1, 2012. One of the first things I'm going to do when I'm back is go to the 4th of July Boston Pops concert---I've missed it badly in this culture-starved wasteland (Reno) I live in now.

  • @SimuLord My god...Reno. I am so sorry. Also envious that you will be seeing the Boston Pops, as i am a concert geek

  • jjajaa i like it

  • i want to make the ending the sound when i shut my computer off

  • @Rebel056 Briliant idea my friend, just recorded it and set the ending as my windows shutdown sound myself. NOW TESTING!

  • ending is AMAZING!

  • It sounds elegant. This shows that the Pops are talented. It also shows that whoever composed the music for the mario games is talented as well.

  • @1niftyjay

The composer of the Super Mario Theme is Koji Kondo.

He's a very well respected Video Game Music composer. But not very prolific. He's a sound director now.

All music in this medley was composed by Koji Kondo.

He also has no musical education. He's just a great composer!

    Happy composing!

  • @ComposerKuandohan A composer doesnt mean is a good arranger, a good arranger doesnt mean is a good player, a good player doesnt mean is good conductor.

But what you listening to, is John Williams' arrangement and conducting his own boston pops orchestra.

The original song was by Koji Kondo using casio midi synethiser.

  • I think they actually arranged this sometime in the nineties...I remember hearing back when Napster was actually legal!

Anyways, gotta love those Boston Pops...Representing our city and its good taste in videogames. ;)

  • If i become a Billionair, the first thing i do is buy the boston pops so they can wake me up every morning with music sing me to bed and make some travel music on my way to school...

  • The song is not only awesome but fantastic too. This is a very great orchestrated song.

  • Sounds a little like Toy Story

  • @Patchworkdrum NOOOOO!!! Toy Story Sounds like this, Super Mario was out way before Toy Story.

  • @marble2012 The Boston Pops version came out before Toy Story?

  • @marble2012 i hope you know youre talking about super mario here? super mario sounds like super mario? point blank. lol

  • Awesome! I put this in my favorites

  • 9 people haven't successfully completed a Mario game.

  • This sounds EXACTLY like Video Games Live. 0.0

  • That was beautiful

  • the build up to the underwater music is immense

  • 2:35-3:00 is BADASS music

  • it make you feel like your at a ball

  • 8 people got GAME OVER!

  • its london symphony orchestra

  • O.M.G. :D I LOVE IT!!!!! This makes me happy. :)

  • I Alwaysed Loved this version of this Music brings back memeroies of the NES

  • Lost soundtrack to the SMB movie :p

  • I mean this is performed by Boston Pops, not composed by John Williams

  • @kendconcerto It is composed by John Williams, Williams is also the director of the Boston Pops Orchestra

  • is this a little slow to n e one else? the main theme seems to b dragging.

  • this is not the boston pops

  • @Jstruzz except that it is the boston pops

  • @Lavashield exept it's not, Having known the boston pop pops for the better part of 2 decades i have yet to find an album that has a single video game theme on it. I still do believe John Williams wrote an arrangement of the legend of zelda. but i don't think it was the pops. i would have to say this would conducted by koji kondo himself. i hate disagreeing

  • Who are those six people who don't like this? I need to have a "chat" with them.

  • @B3D14

yea me too *hides gun* xD

  • Where can I download tracks of this???

  • This reminds me of music that would play in an elevator!

  • John Williams FTW

  • I own CD complication, ofcoz I know its John Williams. U dope!

  • @kendconcerto ... wait a minute, you own this cd compilation, and HE'S the dope?

  • @fitslim22 What are u trying to say anyway ?

  • This sounds like the Tokyo City Philharmonic...you pulled Boston Pops out of your ass.

  • @hackel137 Completely right, Pops have a much bigger sound. Even in silly songs.

  • Hm... A little muffled compared to the eminence version... but the Under Water theme is just a tad livelier (plus nobody coughs through it. :D).

    Oh I love it.

  • Only problem is that probably 80% of the Orchestra members can't relate to what they're playing so well.

    "WHO IS THIS MAY-RIO?"

  • Why do you think that??

  • who hasn't heard of Mario??

    are you kidding me?

Mario has been around since 47 BCE!!

    well...

suffice it so say he's been around for a long time

  • orchestra's are so bad ass

  • @JerrellWilliams12: Hell yes, they are. ;)

  • @JerrellWilliams12 symphony, not orchestra.

  • Is this really played by the Boston Pops!?

    XD

  • I must find the sheet music for this...any ideas where I could get it anyone?

  • pianofiles. com

  • love it..its fantastic sounds like some christmas song hehehe

  • Where can I download the MP3? ^.^

  • This sounds surprisingly good in orchestra. The same is true with the Kingdom Hearts II opening, "Passion", or "Sanctuary" in orchestra.

  • Because Orchestra's are badass.

  • brilliant.

  • The strings make this.

  • @colourfulwithaU: Indeed, they do!!! x3

  • WOW!!!!!

what a cooool arrangement! wonderful orchestration!

    MA CHE BELLO!

    who did it?

  • boston pops

  • evrything souns better orchestrated

  • This is from Videogames Live. This has nothing to do with John Williams, who is amazing. This was set up by Tommy Tallerico with music arranged by Konji Kondo, the composer of Mario, Zelda, and many other great videogame themes.

  • I first heard this recording in 2001 or so. 2003 at the very latest. Video Games Live didn't exist until 2005.

  • Actually, if you compare it to track 3 from the album "Game Music Concert 4 ~ Live Best Collection" (which you can find on VGMdb), they are identical. That album is from 1994, and the recording is of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

(The same arrangement appears on "Game Music Concert ~ The Best Selection", the first album in the GMC series, but is played by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra.)

Having been to VGL, I'd guess that they used the same score (Koji Kondo supporting VGL and all).

  • I was about to point out myself that this sounds a lot more like the TCPO than the BPO.

  • I can not got bored of this.

  • Awesome, cool, good, great!!!

  • ever notice that no one ever plays the "Mario wins" ending when they play this song. This is soooo great, too bad mario died. (ok I know, I'm a nerd let it go)

  • WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DIED?

  • I meant the ending music was the "mario dies" music, as opposed to them playing the victory music.

  • no one ever does the castle theme :<

  • I agreed.

  • hahaha

  • I believe this one was composed by John Williams.

  • Not really, it was composed by a Japanese fella (the main theme)

John Williams using his talents, turn this video game melody and rearranged it into orchestral music.

I really admire John Williams, he's a wizard in movie music scores!

  • KOJI KONDO IS THAT JAPANESE FELLA!

And I know, this wasn't originally John Williams, but this was arranged by John Williams.

  • Comment removed

  • @kendconcerto I believe it was composed by Koji Kondo. He also wrote some of the music to the original Zelda games.

  • @kendconcerto

the reason he's such a "wizard" is because he steels his music, and good music at that. plan and simple.

  • @kendconcerto koji kondo wrote it I believe, I might be a little rusty on the spelling

  • @dontwantnofritos Yeah, but this arrangement is by John Williams. KUDOS to these talented musicians!

  • Haha wow!

  • Wow, this actually makes Mario sound like a mix between Balet & an Opera.

  • It's so amazing. do you know who arranged it?

  • John Williams did I think. He is the conductor for Boston Pops

  • omg 3:40 made me honestly shiver... its so beautiful

  • damn this is good stuff!

  • This sounds like the opening theme that they should use if PIXAR made a SMB movie.

  • This is great. I love it.

  • Have you heard the Legend of Zelda one they did?? AMAZING, in a word.

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • LOL

  • Yes, its wonderful !

  • What recording is this from? I must own!

  • Anyone who thinks video game music is lame needs to go to video games live.

  • I love this piece but this video would be better if there was an orchestra to watch.

  • yeh it sounds amazing but would be better if there was an orchestra

  • OMG this is the most AWESOME thing EVER!!!

  • I remeber getting the Nintendo for Christmas. My dad and I played this game for weeks after I got it. My mother would take solo evening drives to get away from the madness and maintain her sanity. I loved the 80's!!!

  • all these years getting trounced by my kids playing this game... I never gave the music a second thought... this is really good!

  • yeppers

  • This is awesome. It brings back all the memories of the Nintendo wars we had in my family, fighting over who got to the console first and who hid the controllers best so nobody else could play Nintendo and monopolize the machine for hours at a time. My brother never shared, so we had to hide everything from controllers to game cartridges so my sister and I could at least get a chance to play. We used to play Mario for hours, but only my brother beat it. We play Mario Party now @ family parties.

  • this is actually pretty. i thought it would be lame just because it is mario. but then it again, it's the Boston Pops playing, so it has to be pretty...

  • Whatever being played by an orchestra in the right conductor's hand, by the right composer...

Will always be a good piece of music !

  • This song is so cool. I only wish it had more "oomph" to it. It sounds more like a ball room dance song.

  • Some drunk guy sent me this...

    Awesome.

  • I never played Mario, but this is awesome.

  • You've never played Mario?! You are soooooo missin' out! It may have bad graphics but it's a classic and is so much fun to play! But play the nintendo version. It's the original. :)

  • You're not gonna believe me. When I was eight my parents gave me my first video game console: the N. E. S. Then I had the Super N. E. S., Game Boy, Advance, etc. Now I have the Wii thing. You know? A month ago I bought an original 1985 Nintendo 8-bit console (I'd sold the first). Now, I'm thirty years old. But, this is awesome. I'm a Nintendo nerd and I'm proud of it... See you!

  • sounds almost like the same arrangement as the eminence orchestra. this is just as good though.

  • The Boston Pops Recording came out between 1998 and 2000

  • The Tokyo Philharmonic sounds identical also. I assume they're playing the same arrangement.

  • Ah sad. That means this was Keith Lockhart; not John Williams.

    Oh well, this rules.

  • amazing!

  • Amazing! The Boston pops did a masterful job.

  • @gibson: definitely not 5 times better, being better at all is very debateable

  • The Mario theme always sounds the same. It should be exciting with trumpets.

  • Here we gooo!!!

  • Mario Bros, my favo(u)rite game with a beautiful song!!

  • Lovely violin solo at the end. ^^

  • I love the pizzicato strings from 0:04-0:16!

  • This just put a big smile on my face! Love it! *^____^*

  • i love it! its arranged so well!

    brilliant xD

  • this is awesome i mean who does not like Mario or the Boston Pops :D

  • Genius. :-) I love old-school Mario- still the best Nintendo game and character.

  • The Second Part is a bit like "The Nutcracker" or like a Pice from Strauss the Waltz King. It´s really a nice Waltz.(It could maybe also a Vienna Waltz.I´m not sure. ?!).

  • It's the theme for the underwater levels in Super Mario Bros.(NES) but it was also used as the main title theme in Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) (NES)

  • how could it be a waltz? It's in four....waltzes are in three....thats what makes it a waltz!

  • It's a mixture of 2/2 and 3/4

  • i completly got that as soon as i posted that comment.... i see now that its a very fast three or a slow two(four)

  • the water theme part is a waltz (always was though) the opening isn't though, but yeah you can totally hear it.

  • @nathantj594 not all waltzes have to be in three

  • @smrtaznboi133 yea they do duh! i have realized that that movement is in a slow 6/8 meter...also can be counted in three

  • @nathantj594 What are you talking about ? That ain't a valse, it's in 4/4 but it's swinged. 1m44, now this is a valse.

  • Funny to hear the song in a Orcetra Version. It´s first the upper World, then Underwater.Next the Undergrund World back to the Surface.

    Fantastic Played....!!!!!!

  • wonderful orchestration and great to listen to. i really wanted the strings to continue the legato line instead of playing the dotted rhythms at 2:25-2:35...i think it would have been a pleasing variation. 5 stars nonetheless

  • Very nice, Mario's always been a classy guy.

  • John Williams does not disappoint.

  • thats sounds great!!!

  • HOLY CRAP nice sound

  • One would really hope since its the Boston Pops. I'd be VERY dissapointed if it wasnt amazing.

  • wow, cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Get a life. This is awesome!

  • Man that's an awesome sound!!!

  • so awsome!!!!

  • wow... souds really nice....

    luv it thanks!!!!
